1 In the twenty-third year of Joash, son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, began his seventeen-year reign over Israel in Samaria.	1 Joásnak, Ahaszja fiának, Júda királyának huszonharmadik esztendejétől kezdve tizenhét esztendeig Joacház, Jéhu fia uralkodott Izraelen, Szamariában.
2 He did evil in the LORD'S sight, conducting himself like Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and not renouncing the sin he had caused Israel to commit.	2 Azt cselekedte, ami gonosz az Úr előtt s Jeroboámnak, Nábát fiának bűneit követte, aki vétekre vitte Izraelt s nem távozott azoktól.
3 The LORD was angry with Israel and for a long time left them in the power of Hazael, king of Aram, and of Ben-hadad, son of Hazael.	3 Fel is gerjedt az Úr haragja Izrael ellen s Házaélnek, Szíria királyának és Ben-Hadadnak, Házaél fiának kezébe adta őket ezen egész idő alatt.
4 Then Jehoahaz entreated the LORD, who heard him, since he saw the oppression to which the king of Aram had subjected Israel.	4 Joacház azonban könyörgött az Úrnak s az Úr meghallgatta őt, mert látta Izrael nyomorúságát, minthogy elnyomta őket Szíria királya,
5 So the LORD gave Israel a savior, and the Israelites, freed from the power of Aram, dwelt in their own homes as formerly.	5 és szabadítót adott az Úr Izraelnek s ez megszabadult Szíria királyának kezéből s Izrael fiai úgy laktak sátraikban, mint azelőtt.
6 Nevertheless, they did not desist from the sins which the house of Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit, but persisted in them. The sacred pole also remained standing in Samaria.	6 Mindazonáltal nem távoztak el Jeroboám házának bűneitől, aki vétekre vitte Izraelt, hanem azok szerint jártak, sőt a berek is megmaradt Szamariában.
7 No soldiers were left to Jehoahaz, except fifty horsemen with ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, since the king of Aram had destroyed them and trampled them like dust.	7 Pedig nem maradt Joacháznak a népből csak ötven lovasa és tíz szekere és tízezer gyalogosa, mert Szíria királya megölte és olyanná tette őket, mint a por a nyomtatószérűn.
8 The rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, with all his valor and accomplishments, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	8 Joacház egyéb dolgai pedig s mindaz, amit cselekedett, meg a vitézsége, nemde meg vannak írva Izrael királyainak krónikás könyvében?
9 Jehoahaz rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. His son Joash succeeded him as king.	9 Amikor aztán Joacház aludni tért atyáihoz, eltemették Szamariában s fia, Joás lett a király helyette.
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash, king of Judah, Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, began his sixteen-year reign over Israel in Samaria.	10 Joásnak, Júda királyának harminchetedik esztendejétől kezdve tizenhat esztendeig uralkodott Joás, Joacház fia Izraelen, Szamariában.
11 He did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not desist from any of the sins which Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had caused Israel to commit, but persisted in them.	11 Azt cselekedte, ami gonosz az Úr színe előtt s nem távozott Jeroboámnak, Nábát fiának semmiféle bűnétől, aki vétekre vitte Izraelt, hanem azok szerint járt.
12 (The rest of the acts of Joash, the valor with which he fought against Amaziah, king of Judah, and all his accomplishments, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	12 Joás egyéb dolgai pedig s mindaz, amit cselekedett, meg a vitézsége, hogy hogyan hadakozott Amaszjával, Júda királyával, nemde meg vannak írva Izrael királyainak krónikás könyvében?
13 Joash rested with his ancestors, and Jeroboam occupied the throne. Joash was buried with the kings of Israel in Samaria.)	13 Amikor aztán Joás aludni tért atyáihoz, Jeroboám ült királyi székébe, Joást pedig eltemették Szamariában, Izrael királyai mellé.
14 When Elisha was suffering from the sickness of which he was to die, King Joash of Israel went down to visit him. "My father, my father!" he exclaimed, weeping over him. "Israel's chariots and horsemen!"	14 Amikor Elizeus megbetegedett abban a betegségben, amelybe bele is halt, lement hozzá Joás, Izrael királya és sírt előtte és ezt mondogatta: »Atyám, én atyám, Izrael szekere és szekérvezetője!«
15 "Take a bow and some arrows," Elisha said to him. When he had done so,	15 Azt mondta erre neki Elizeus: »Hozz íjat és nyilakat!« Amikor odavitte hozzá az íjat s a nyilakat,
16 Elisha said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow." As the king held the bow, Elisha placed his hands over the king's hands	16 azt mondta Izrael királyának: »Tedd kezedet az íjra!« Amikor aztán rátette kezét az íjra, Elizeus rátette kezét a király kezére
17 and said, "Open the window toward the east." He opened it. Elisha said, "Shoot," and he shot. The prophet exclaimed, "The LORD'S arrow of victory! The arrow of victory over Aram! You will completely conquer Aram at Aphec."	17 és azt mondta: »Nyisd ki a keleti ablakot.« Amikor aztán kinyitotta, azt mondta Elizeus: »Lődd ki a nyilat.« Ki is lőtte. Azt mondta erre Elizeus: »Az Úr győzelmi nyila, győzelmi nyíl Szíriával szemben: megvered Szíriát Áfeknél a végpusztulásig.«
18 Then he said to the king of Israel, "Take the arrows," which he did. Elisha said to him, "Strike the ground!" He struck the ground three times and stopped.	18 Majd azt mondta: »Vedd a nyilakat.« Miután vette, azt mondta neki: »Verd meg a nyíllal a földet.« Amikor aztán háromszor megverte s akkor megállt,
19 Angry with him, the man of God said: "You should have struck five or six times; you would have defeated Aram completely. Now, you will defeat Aram only three times."	19 megharagudott rá az Isten embere és azt mondta: »Ha ötször, hatszor vagy hétszer verted volna meg, a végpusztulásig verted volna meg Szíriát, most azonban csak háromszor fogod megverni.«
20 Elisha died and was buried. At the time, bands of Moabites used to raid the land each year.	20 Meghalt tehát Elizeus és eltemették. Ugyanabban az esztendőben portyázók jöttek Moábból az országba.
21 Once some people were burying a man, when suddenly they spied such a raiding band. So they cast the dead man into the grave of Elisha, and everyone went off. But when the man came in contact with the bones of Elisha, he came back to life and rose to his feet.	21 Bizonyos emberek pedig, akik éppen egy embert temettek, – amikor meglátták a portyázókat, bevitték a holttestet Elizeus sírjába. Amikor hozzáért Elizeus teteméhez, életre kelt az ember, s a lábára állt.
22 King Hazael of Aram oppressed Israel during the entire reign of Jehoahaz.	22 Házaél, Szíria királya tehát sanyargatta Izraelt Joacház egész idejében.
23 But the LORD was merciful with Israel and looked on them with compassion because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was unwilling to destroy them or to cast them out from his presence.	23 Ám az Úr megkönyörült rajtuk s feléjük fordult azon szövetség kedvéért, amelyet Ábrahámmal, Izsákkal és Jákobbal tartott s nem akarta elveszíteni s egészen elvetni őket mind a mai napig.
24 So when King Hazael of Aram died and his son Ben-hadad succeeded him as king,	24 Amikor aztán Házaél, Szíria királya meghalt s fia, Ben-Hadad lett a király helyette,
25 Joash, son of Jehoahaz, took back from Ben-hadad, son of Hazael, the cities which Hazael had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Joash defeated Ben-hadad three times, and thus recovered the cities of Israel.	25 Joás, Joacház fia visszavette Ben-Hadadnak, Házaél fiának a kezéből azokat a városokat, amelyeket ez hadijoggal elvett apjának, Joacháznak kezéből. Három ízben verte meg őt Joás s így visszaszerezte Izrael városait.
