1 וכל ישראל התיחשו והנם כתובים על ספר מלכי ישראל ויהודה הגלו לבבל במעלם	1 Thus, al Israel's official genealogies had been entered in the records of the kings of Israel and Judahbefore they were deported to Babylon for their infidelity.
2 והיושבים הראשנים אשר באחזתם בעריהם ישראל הכהנים הלוים והנתינים	2 Now the first citizens to return to their property in their cities were the Israelites, the priests, the Levitesand the temple slaves.
3 ובירושלם ישבו מן בני יהודה ומן בני בנימן ומן בני אפרים ומנשה	3 In Jerusalem, there settled Judaeans, Benjaminites, Ephraimites and Manassehites.
4 עותי בן עמיהוד בן עמרי בן אמרי בן בנימן בני פרץ בן יהודה	4 Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, one of the sons of Perez son of Judah.
5 ומן השילוני עשיה הבכור ובניו	5 Of the descendants of Shelah: Asaiah, the first-born, and his sons.
6 ומן בני זרח יעואל ואחיהם שש מאות ותשעים	6 Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel. And six hundred and ninety of their kinsmen.
7 ומן בני בנימן סלוא בן משלם בן הודויה בן הסנאה	7 And of the sons of Benjamin: Sal u son of Meshul am, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah;
8 ויבניה בן ירחם ואלה בן עזי בן מכרי ומשלם בן שפטיה בן רעואל בן יבניה	8 Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, son of Michri; and Meshul am son of Shephatiah, son ofReuel, son of Ibnijah.
9 ואחיהם לתלדותם תשע מאות וחמשים וששה כל אלה אנשים ראשי אבות לבית אבתיהם	9 Their kinsmen, according to their relationship, numbered nine hundred and fifty-six. Al these men werechiefs of their families.
10 ומן הכהנים ידעיה ויהויריב ויכין	10 Of the priests there were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin,
11 ועזריה בן חלקיה בן משלם בן צדוק בן מריות בן אחיטוב נגיד בית האלהים	11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshul am, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief ofthe Temple of God;
12 ועדיה בן ירחם בן פשחור בן מלכיה ומעשי בן עדיאל בן יחזרה בן משלם בן משלמית בן אמר	12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah,son of Meshullam, son of Meshil emith, son of Immer.
13 ואחיהם ראשים לבית אבותם אלף ושבע מאות וששים גבורי חיל מלאכת עבודת בית האלהים	13 Their kinsmen, heads of families, numbered one thousand seven hundred and sixty-men expert in theministerial service of the Temple of God.
14 ומן הלוים שמעיה בן חשוב בן עזריקם בן חשביה מן בני מררי	14 Of the Levites there were Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah of the sons ofMerari,
15 ובקבקר חרש וגלל ומתניה בן מיכא בן זכרי בן אסף	15 Bakbakar, Heresh, Galai, Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph.
16 ועבדיה בן שמעיה בן גלל בן ידותון וברכיה בן אסא בן אלקנה היושב בחצרי נטופתי	16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun and Berechiah son of Asa, son of Elkanah,who lived in the dependencies of the Netophathites.
17 והשערים שלום ועקוב וטלמן ואחימן ואחיהם שלום הראש	17 The gatekeepers were Shal um, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their kinsmen. Shal um was the chief
18 ועד הנה בשער המלך מזרחה המה השערים למחנות בני לוי	18 and is stil gatekeeper of the King's Gate to the east. They were the gatekeepers of the camps of thesons of Levi.
19 ושלום בן קורא בן אביסף בן קרח ואחיו לבית אביו הקרחים על מלאכת העבודה שמרי הספים לאהל ואבתיהם על מחנה יהוה שמרי המבוא	19 Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers belonging to his family, theKorahites, were also in charge of the ministerial service as doorkeepers of the Tent, as their ancestors had beenkeepers of the entrance to the camp of Yahweh.
20 ופינחס בן אלעזר נגיד היה עליהם לפנים יהוה עמו	20 Formerly, Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of them -- Yahweh be with him!
21 זכריה בן משלמיה שער פתח לאהל מועד	21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
22 כלם הברורים לשערים בספים מאתים ושנים עשר המה בחצריהם התיחשם המה יסד דויד ושמואל הראה באמונתם	22 Al the keepers of the gate at the thresholds were picked men; there were two hundred and twelve ofthem. They were grouped by relationship in their various vil ages. These were confirmed in office by David and Samuel the seer because of their dependability.
23 והם ובניהם על השערים לבית יהוה לבית האהל למשמרות	23 They and their sons continued in charge as guards of the gates of the Temple of Yahweh, the houseof the Tent.
24 לארבע רוחות יהיו השערים מזרח ימה צפונה ונגבה	24 The gatekeepers were assigned to the four sides, east, west, north and south,
25 ואחיהם בחצריהם לבוא לשבעת הימים מעת אל עת עם אלה	25 and their brothers in their vil ages were required to assist them from time to time for a week,
26 כי באמונה המה ארבעת גברי השערים הם הלוים והיו על הלשכות ועל האצרות בית האלהים	26 since the four head gatekeepers were permanently on duty. They were Levites and were in charge ofthe accommodation and supplies of the Temple of God.
27 וסביבות בית האלהים ילינו כי עליהם משמרת והם על המפתח ולבקר לבקר	27 They spent the night in the precincts of the Temple of God, their duties being to guard it and open itevery morning.
28 ומהם על כלי העבודה כי במספר יביאום ובמספר יוציאום	28 Some of them were in charge of the implements of worship, having to count them when they tookthem out and when they put them away.
29 ומהם ממנים על הכלים ועל כל כלי הקדש ועל הסלת והיין והשמן והלבונה והבשמים	29 Others of them were put in charge of the implements, of al the objects in the sanctuary and of theflour, the wine, the oil, the incense and the perfume.
30 ומן בני הכהנים רקחי המרקחת לבשמים	30 Members of the priestly caste, however, mixed the ointment for the perfume.
31 ומתתיה מן הלוים הוא הבכור לשלם הקרחי באמונה על מעשה החבתים	31 One of the Levites, Mattithiah -- he was the first-born of Shal um the Korahite -- had regular charge ofbaking operations.
32 ומן בני הקהתי מן אחיהם על לחם המערכת להכין שבת שבת	32 Some of their kinsmen the Kohathites were responsible for the loaves to be set out in rows Sabbathby Sabbath.
33 ואלה המשררים ראשי אבות ללוים בלשכת פטירים כי יומם ולילה עליהם במלאכה	33 In addition, there were the singers, the heads of the levitical families, who were accommodated in theTemple, free of other responsibilities because they were on duty day and night.
34 אלה ראשי האבות ללוים לתלדותם ראשים אלה ישבו בירושלם	34 Such were the chiefs of the levitical families, according to their relationship; these lived in Jerusalem.
35 ובגבעון ישבו אבי גבעון יעואל ושם אשתו מעכה	35 Jeiel father of Gibeon lived at Gibeon and his wife was cal ed Maacah.
36 ובנו הבכור עבדון וצור וקיש ובעל ונר ונדב	36 His first-born son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
37 וגדור ואחיו וזכריה ומקלות	37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth.
38 ומקלות הוליד את שמאם ואף הם נגד אחיהם ישבו בירושלם עם אחיהם	38 Mikloth fathered Shimeam. But they, unlike their brothers, lived at Jerusalem with their brothers.
39 ונר הוליד את קיש וקיש הוליד את שאול ושאול הוליד את יהונתן ואת מלכי שוע ואת אבינדב ואת אשבעל	39 Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab and Eshbaal.
40 ובן יהונתן מריב בעל ומרי בעל הוליד את מיכה	40 Son of Jonathan: Meribbaal. Meribbaal fathered Micah.
41 ובני מיכה פיתון ומלך ותחרע	41 Sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea.
42 ואחז הוליד את יערה ויערה הוליד את עלמת ואת עזמות ואת זמרי וזמרי הוליד את מוצא	42 Ahaz fathered Jarah, Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri; Zimri fathered Moza,
43 ומוצא הוליד את בנעא ורפיה בנו אלעשה בנו אצל בנו	43 Moza fathered Binea, Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son.
44 ולאצל ששה בנים ואלה שמותם עזריקם בכרו וישמעאל ושעריה ועבדיה וחנן אלה בני אצל	44 Azel had six sons; their names were these: Azrikam his first-born, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah,Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
