Isaiah 40

1 Be comforted, be comforted, my people, saith your God.	1 "Tröstet, ja tröstet mein Volk", spricht euer Gott.
2 Speak ye to the heart of Jerusalem, and call to her: for her evil is come to an end, her iniquity is forgiven: she hath received of the hand of the Lord double for all her sins.	2 Redet Jerusalem zu Herzen und rufet ihm zu, daß erfüllt ist sein Kriegsdienst, bezahlt seine Schuld. Denn Doppeltes empfing es aus der Hand des Herrn für all seine Sünden.
3 The voice of one crying in the desert: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the wilderness the paths of our God.	3 Eines Rufenden Stimme: "In der Wüste bahnt einen Weg für den Herrn, ebnet in der Steppe einen Pfad für unseren Gott!
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straight, and the rough ways plain.	4 Es hebe sich jedes Tal, es senke sich jeder Berg und Hügel; was uneben ist, werde zur Ebene, das Hügelige zum Flachland!
5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh together shall see, that the mouth of the Lord hath spoken.	5 Ja, offenbar wird die Herrlichkeit des Herrn, und alles Fleisch wird sie schauen; denn des Herrn Mund hat gesprochen."
6 The voice of one, saying: Cry. And I said: What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the glory thereof as the flower of the held.	6 Eines Redenden Stimme: "Predige!" Da sprach ich: "Was denn soll ich predigen?" "Alles Fleisch ist Gras, all seine Pracht wie die Blume der Flur.
7 The grass is withered, and the dower is fallen, because the spirit of the Lord hath blown upon it. Indeed the people is grass:	7 Das Gras verdorrt, die Blume welkt hin, sobald des Herrn Odem sie anbläst.
8 The grass is withered, and the flower is fallen: but the word of our Lord endureth for ever.	8 Das Gras verdorrt, die Blume welkt hin, doch unseres Gottes Wort besteht auf ewig."
9 Get thee up upon a high mountain, thou that bringest good tidings to Sion: lift up thy voice with strength, thou that bringest good tidings to Jerusalem: lift it up, fear not. Say to the cities of Juda: Behold your God:	9 Auf hohen Berg steige hinauf, Frohbotin Sion, erhebe mit Macht deinen Ruf, Frohbotin Jerusalem; erhebe ihn, fürchte dich nicht! Zu Judas Städten sprich: "Seht da, euer Gott!
10 Behold the Lord God shall come with strength, and his arm shall rule: Behold his reward is with him and his work is before him.	10 Seht, der Gebieter und Herr naht mit Macht, sein Arm waltet für ihn! Seht, die er erworben, kommen mit ihm und die er sich verdient hat, ziehen vor ihm her!
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather together the lambs with his arm, and shall take them up in his bosom, and he himself shall carry them that are with young.	11 Seine Herde weidet er wie ein Hirt, mit seinem Arm sammelt er die Lämmer; er trägt sie an seiner Brust, die Mutterschafe leitet er sacht."
12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and weighed the heavens with his palm? who hath poised with three fingers the bulk of the earth, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?	12 Wer ist's, der die Wasser maß mit seiner hohlen Hand und mit der Spanne den Himmel begrenzte? Wer faßte mit dem Hohlmaß den Erdenstaub, wer wog mit der Waage die Berge ab, wer mit den Waagschalen die Hügel?
13 Who hath forwarded the spirit of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor, and hath taught him?	13 Wer bestimmte den Geist des Herrn, wer war sein Ratgeber, der ihn unterwies?
14 With whom hath he consulted, and who hath instructed him, and taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and shewed him the way of understanding?	14 Mit wem hielt er Ratschlag, daß er ihn beriet und ihn belehrte über den rechten Pfad, auf den Weg der Einsicht ihn hinwies?
15 Behold the Gentiles are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the smallest grain of a balance: behold the islands are as a little dust.	15 Seht, Völker sind wie ein Tropfen am Eimer, wie Stäubchen an der Waagschale gelten sie ihm. Fürwahr, Inseln sind an Gewicht dem Sandkorn gleich.
16 And Libanus shall not be enough to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.	16 Der Libanon hat an Brennholz zu wenig, sein Wild reicht zum Opfer nicht aus.
17 All nations are before him as if they had no being at all, and are counted to him as nothing, and vanity.	17 Alle Völker sind vor ihm wie ein Nichts, weniger als null und nichtig gelten sie ihm.
18 To whom then have you likened God? or what image will you make for him?	18 Wem vergleicht ihr nun Gott, was wollt ihr Ähnliches neben ihn stellen?
19 Hath the workman cast a graven statue? or hath the goldsmith formed it with gold, or the silversmith with plates of silver?	19 Der Künstler gießt das Götzenbild, der Feinschmied überzieht es mit Gold, silberne Ketten fertigt er an.
20 He hath chosen strong wood, and that will not rot: the skilful workman seeketh how he may set up an idol that may not be moved.	20 Der Arme aber wählt als Weihegabe unverwesliches Holz, sucht sich einen geschickten Künstler, damit er ein Götzenbild errichte, das nicht wankt.
21 Do you not know? hath it not been heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have you not understood the foundations of the earth ?	21 Wißt ihr es nicht, hört ihr es nicht, ward es euch nicht kund von Anbeginn an, habt ihr es nicht seit Gründung der Welt erfaßt?
22 It is he that sitteth upon the globe of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as locusts: he that stretcheth out the heavens as nothing, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.	22 Er ist es, der da thront über dem Erdenrund, dessen Bewohner wie Heuschrecken sind, der den Himmel wie einen Schleier ausspannt und ihn ausbreitet wie ein Wohnzelt,
23 He that bringeth the searchers of secrets to nothing, that hath made the judges of the earth as vanity.	23 der Fürsten zunichte macht, Richter der Erde in Nichts umwandelt;
24 And surely their stock was neither planted, nor sown, nor rooted in the earth: suddenly he hath blown upon them, and they are withered, and a whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.	24 kaum sind sie gepflanzt, kaum gesät, kaum wurzelt ihr Stamm in der Erde, da bläst er sie an, so daß sie verdorren, ein Windstoß trägt sie wie Spreu davon.
25 And to whom have ye likened me, or made me equal, saith the Holy One?	25 "Mit wem also vergleicht ihr mich, dem ich ähnlich wäre?" spricht der Heilige.
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and see who hath created these things: who bringeth out their host by number, and calleth them all by their names: by the greatness of his might, and strength, and power, not one of them was missing.	26 Erhebt eure Augen zur Himmelshöhe und seht: Wer hat diese Gestirne erschaffen? Er, der abgezählt ihr Heer herausführt, sie alle mit Namen ruft; dem Kräftigen, Machtgewaltigen fehlt auch nicht eines.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel: My way is hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my God?	27 Warum sagst du, Jakob, und sprichst du, Israel: "Mein Wandel ist verborgen dem Herrn, und mein Recht entgeht meinem Gott?"
28 Knowest thou not, or hast thou not heard? the Lord is the everlasting God, who hath created the ends of the earth: he shall not faint, nor labour, neither is there any searching out of his wisdom.	28 Weißt du es nicht, hast du es nicht gehört? Ein ewiger Gott ist der Herr, Schöpfer der Enden der Erde; er wird nicht müde und wird nicht matt, unergründlich ist seine Einsicht.
29 It is he that giveth strength to the weary, and increaseth force and might to them that are not.	29 Er gibt dem Ermüdenden Kraft, vermehrt des Ohnmächtigen Stärke.
30 Youths shall faint, and labour, and young men shall fall by infirmity.	30 Jünglinge werden müde und matt, Jungkrieger straucheln gar kläglich.
31 But they that hope in the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall take wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.	31 Die aber dem Herrn vertrauen, erneuern die Kraft; sie bilden Flügel den Adlern gleich, sie laufen und werden nicht matt, sie ziehen dahin und ermüden nicht.
