1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David in Hebron, saying: We are thy bone, and thy flesh.	1 Tout Israël vint donc trouver David à Hébron, et lui dit : Nous sommes vos os et votre chair.
2 Yesterday also, and the day before when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: for the Lord thy God said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt; be ruler over them.	2 Et autrefois déjà, lorsque Saül régnait encore, c'était vous qui meniez Israël au combat et le rameniez. Car c'est à vous que le Seigneur votre Dieu a dit : Vous serez le pasteur de mon peuple Israël, et vous en serez le prince.
3 So all the ancients of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord: and they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke in the hand of Samuel.	3 Tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent donc trouver le roi à Hébron, et le roi fit alliance avec eux devant le Seigneur; et ils le sacrèrent roi sur Israël, suivant la parole que le Seigneur avait dite par la bouche de Samuel.
4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, where the Jebusites were the inhabitants of the land.	4 David vint ensuite avec tout Israël à Jérusalem, nommée aussi Jébus, où étaient les Jébuséens, habitants du pays.
5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: Thou shalt not come in here. But David took the castle of Sion, which is the city of David.	5 Ceux qui demeuraient dans Jébus dirent alors à David : Vous n'entrerez point ici. Néanmoins David prit la forteresse de Sion; c'est la cité de David.
6 And he said: Whosoever shall first strike the Jebusites, shall be the head and chief captain. And Joab the son of Sarvia went up first, and was made the general.	6 Et il dit : Quiconque battra le premier les Jébuséens, sera fait prince et général. Joab, fils de Sarvia, monta donc le premier à l'assaut, et fut fait prince.
7 And David dwelt in the castle, and therefore it was called the city of David.	7 Et David habita dans la citadelle, et c'est ce qui la fit appeler la Cité de David.
8 And he built the city round about from Mello all round, and Joab built the rest of the city.	8 Et il bâtit des constructions autour de la ville, depuis Mello jusqu'au tournant; et Joab construisit le reste de la ville.
9 And David went on growing and increasing, and the Lord of hosts was with him.	9 Et David allait progressant et croissant, et le Seigneur des armées était avec lui.
10 These are the chief of the valiant men of David, who helped him to be made king over all Israel, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke to Israel.	10 Voici les chefs des vaillants hommes de David, qui l'aidèrent à devenir roi sur tout Israël, suivant la déclaration que le Seigneur avait faite à Israël;
11 And this is the number of the heroes of David: Jesbaam the son of Hachamoni the chief among the thirty: he lifted up his spear against three hundred wounded by him at one time.	11 et voici le nombre des héros de David. Jesbaam, fils d'Hachamoni, chef des trente. C'est lui qui, ayant brandi sa lance, en blessa trois cents en une seule fois.
12 And after him was Eleazar his uncle's son the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.	12 Après lui, Eléazar l'Ahohite, fils de Dodo, était parmi les trois plus vaillants.
13 He was with David in Phesdomim, when the Philistines were gathered to that place to battle: and the field of that country was full of barley, and the people fled from before the Philistines.	13 C'est lui qui se trouva avec David à Phesdomim, quand les Philistins s'y assemblèrent pour livrer bataille. Et il y avait en ce lieu un champ plein d'orge; et le peuple s'était enfui de devant les Philistins.
14 But these men stood in the midst of the field, and defended it: and they slew the Philistines, and the Lord gave a great deliverance to his people.	14 Mais ceux-ci tinrent ferme au milieu du champ, et le défendirent; et après qu'ils eurent battu les Philistins, le Seigneur donna une grande délivrance à Son peuple.
15 And three of the thirty captains went down to the rock, wherein David was, to the cave of Odollam, when the Philistines encamped in the valley of Raphaim.	15 Trois des trente chefs descendirent auprès de David sur le rocher où il était, près de la caverne d'Odollam, quand les Philistins vinrent camper dans la vallée de Raphaïm.
16 And David was in a hold, and the garrison of the Philistines in Bethlehem.	16 David était donc dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléem;
17 And David longed, and said: O that some man would give me water of the cistern of Bethlehem, which is in the gate.	17 et David eut un désir, et il dit : Oh! si quelqu'un me donnait de l'eau de la citerne de Bethléem, qui est près de la porte!
18 And these three broke through the midst of the camp of the Philistines, and drew water out of the cistern of Bethlehem, which was in the gate, and brought it to David to drink: and he would not drink of it, but rather offered it to the Lord,	18 Alors ces trois hommes traversèrent le camp des Philistins, puisèrent de l'eau dans la citerne qui était à la porte de Bethléem, et ils l'apportèrent à David, afin qu'il en bût; mais il refusa, et il préféra l'offrir en libation au Seigneur,
19 Saying: God forbid that I should do this in the sight of my God, and should drink the blood of these men: for with the danger of their lives they have brought me the water. And therefore he would not drink. These things did the three most valiant.	19 en disant : A Dieu ne plaise que je fasse cela en Sa présence, et que je boive le sang de ces hommes, qui m'ont apporté cette eau: au péril de leur vie! C'est pour cela qu'il ne voulut point en boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois héros.
20 And Abisai the brother of Joab, he was chief of three, and he lifted up his spear against three hundred whom he slew, and he was renowned among the three,	20 Abisaï, frère de Joab, était le premier des trois seconds. C'est lui aussi qui brandit sa lance contre trois cents hommes, qu'il tua. Et il était très renommé entre les trois.
21 And illustrious among the second three, and their captain: but yet he attained not to the first three.	21 Il était le plus illustre de ces trois seconds, et leur chef. Néanmoins il n'égalait pas encore les trois premiers.
22 Banaias the son of Joiada, a most valiant man, of Cabseel, who had done many acts: he slew the two ariels of Moab: and he went down, and killed a lion in the midst of a pit in the time of snow.	22 Banaïas de Cabséel, fils de Joïada, qui fut un homme très vaillant, se signala par plusieurs grandes actions. Il tua les deux Ariel de Moab; et étant descendu dans une citerne par un temps de neige, il y tua un lion.
23 And he slew an Egyptian, whose stature was of five cubits, and who had a spear like a weaver's beam: and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked away the spear, that he held in his hand, and slew him with his own spear.	23 C'est lui aussi qui tua un Egyptien haut de cinq coudées, qui portait une lance comme une ensuble de tisserand. Il l'attaqua avec un bâton; et, lui ayant arraché la lance qu'il tenait à la main, il le tua de cette lance même.
24 These things did Banaias the son of Joiada, who was renowned among the three valiant ones,	24 Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, fils de Joïada. Il était aussi très illustre entre les trois seconds,
25 And the first among the thirty, but yet to the three he attained not: and David made him of his council.	25 et le premier entre les trente; néanmoins il n'égalait pas encore les trois premiers. David l'admit dans son conseil secret.
26 Moreover the most valiant men of the army, were Asahel brother of Joab, and Elchanan the son of his uncle of Bethlehem,	26 Mais les guerriers les plus vaillants du reste de l'armée étaient : Asahel, frère de Joab, et Elchanan de Bethléem, fils de l'oncle paternel d'Asahel,
27 Sammoth an Arorite, Helles a Phalonite,	27 Sammoth l'Arorite, et Hellès le Phalonite,
28 Ira the son of Acces a Thecuite, Abiezer an Anathothite,	28 Ira de Thécua, fils d'Accès, Abiézer d'Anathoth,
29 Sobbochai a Husathite, Ilai an Ahohite,	29 Sobbochaï l'Husathite, Ilaï l'Ahohite,
30 Maharai a Netophathite, Heled the son of Baana a Netophathite,	30 Maharaï de Nétophath, Héled, fils de Baana, aussi de Nétophath,
31 Ethai the son of Ribai of Gabaath of the sons of Benjamin, Banal a Pharathonite,	31 Ethaï, fils de Ribaï, de Gabaath, de la tribu de Benjamin, Banaïa de Pharathon,
32 Hurai of the torrent Gaas, Abiel an Arbathite, Azmoth a Bauramite, Eliaba a Salabonite,	32 Huraï du torrent de Gaas, Abiel d'Arbath, Azmoth le Bauramite, Eliaba le Salabonite,
33 The sons of Assem a, Gezonite, Jonathan the son of Sage an Ararite,	33 les fils d'Assem le Gézonite, Jonathan, fils de Sagé, l'Ararite,
34 Ahiam the son of Sachar an Ararite,	34 Ahiam, fils de Sachar, aussi Ararite,

42 Adina the son of Siza a Rubenite the prince of the Rubenites, and thirty with him:	42 Adina, fils de Siza, de la tribu de Ruben et chef de cette tribu, lequel en avait encore trente avec lui;
43 Hanan the son of Maacha, and Josaphat a Mathanite,	43 Hanan, fils de Maacha, et Josaphat le Mathanite,
44 Ozia an Astarothite, Samma, and Jehiel the sons of Hotham an Arorite,	44 Ozia d'Astaroth, Samma et Jéhiel, fils d'Hotham, l'Arorite,
45 Jedihel the son of Zamri, and Jobs his brother a Thosaite,	45 Jédihel, fils de Samri, et Joha, son frère, de Thosa,
46 Eliel a Mithumite, and Jeribai, and Josaia the sons of Elnaim, and Jethma a Moabite, Eliel, and Obed, and Jasiel of Masobia.	46 Eliel de Mahumi, avec Jéribaï et Josaïa, fils d'Elnaëm, et Jethma de Moab, Eliel et Obel, et Jasiel de Masobia.
