Proverbi 24

DIODATI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Non portare invidia agli uomini malvagi, E non desiderare di esser con loro.	1 Be not emulous of evil men, and desire not to be with them;
2 Perciocchè il cuor loro macchina rapina, E le lor labbra parlano d’iniquità	2 For their hearts plot violence, and their lips speak of foul play.
3 La casa sarà edificata per sapienza, E sarà stabilita per prudenza.	3 By wisdom is a house built, by understanding is it made firm;
4 E per conoscimento le camere saranno ripiene Di beni preziosi e dilettevoli, d’ogni maniera.	4 And by knowledge are its rooms filled with every precious and pleasing possession.
5 L’uomo savio è forte; E l’uomo intendente è possente di forza.	5 A wise man is more powerful than a strong man, and a man of knowledge than a man of might;
6 Perciocchè con prudenti consigli tu farai la guerra; E la salute è posta in moltitudine di consiglieri	6 For it is by wise guidance that you wage your war, and the victory is due to a wealth of counselors.
7 Le sapienze son troppo alte per lo stolto; Egli non aprirà la bocca nella porta.	7 For a fool, to be silent is wisdom; not to open his mouth at the gate.
8 Chi divisa far male Sarà chiamato uomo malizioso.	8 He who plots evil doing-- men call him an intriguer.
9 Il pensiero di stoltizia è peccato; E lo schernitore è l’abbominio degli uomini	9 Beyond intrigue and folly and sin, it is arrogance that men find abominable.
10 Se tu ti rallenti nel giorno della distretta, Le tue forze saranno corte	10 If you remain indifferent in time of adversity, your strength will depart from you.
11 Se tu ti rattieni dal riscuoter quelli che son tratti alla morte, E quelli che stanno in forse di essere uccisi,	11 Rescue those who are being dragged to death, and from those tottering to execution withdraw not.
12 Dicendo: Ecco noi non ne sappiamo nulla; Colui che pesa i cuori non vi porrà egli mente? E il guardiano dell’anima tua non lo conoscerà egli, E non renderà egli a ciascuno secondo le sue opere?	12 If you say, "I know not this man!" does not he who tests hearts perceive it? He who guards your life knows it, and he will repay each one according to his deeds.
13 Figliuol mio, mangia pure del miele; Perciocchè egli è buono; E del favo del miele, che è dolce al tuo palato;	13 If you eat honey, my son, because it is good, if virgin honey is sweet to your taste;
14 Tal sarà la conoscenza della sapienza all’anima tua, Quando tu l’avrai trovata; e vi sarà premio, E la tua speranza non sarà troncata	14 Such, you must know, is wisdom to your soul. If you find it, you will have a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
15 O empio, non insidiar l’abitacolo del giusto, Non guastare il suo ricetto.	15 Lie not in wait against the home of the just man, ravage not his dwelling place;
16 Perciocchè il giusto cade sette volte, e si rileva; Ma gli empi ruinano nel male	16 For the just man falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble to ruin.
17 Non rallegrarti, quando il tuo nemico sarà caduto; E quando egli sarà ruinato, il cuor tuo non ne gioisca;	17 Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and when he stumbles, let not your heart exult,
18 Che talora il Signore nol vegga, e che ciò non gli dispiaccia, E ch’egli non istorni l’ira sua d’addosso a lui	18 Lest the LORD see it, be displeased with you, and withdraw his wrath from your enemy.
19 Non adirarti per li maligni; Non portare invidia agli empi.	19 Be not provoked with evildoers, nor envious of the wicked;
20 Perciocchè non vi sarà premio alcuno per lo malvagio; La lampana degli empi sarà spenta	20 For the evil man has no future, the lamp of the wicked will be put out.
21 Figliuol mio, temi il Signore e il re; Non rimescolarti co’ rapportatori.	21 My son, fear the LORD and the king; have nothing to do with those who rebel against them;
22 Perciocchè in un momento sorgerà la loro calamità; E chi conosce la ruina procedente d’amendue loro?	22 For suddenly arises the destruction they send, and the ruin from either one, who can measure?
23 Queste cose ancora son per li Savi. Ei non è bene di aver riguardo alla qualità delle persone in giudicio.	23 These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judgment is not good.
24 I popoli malediranno, e le nazioni esecreranno Colui che dice all’empio: Tu sei giusto.	24 He who says to the wicked man, "You are just"-- men will curse him, people will denounce him;
25 Ma quelli che lo gastigano saranno grati; E benedizione di bene verrà sopra loro.	25 But those who convict the evildoer will fare well, and on them will come the blessing of prosperity.
26 Chi risponde parole diritte Bacia le labbra	26 He gives a kiss on the lips who makes an honest reply.
27 Ordina le tue faccende fuori, E mettile in assetto ne’ tuoi campi; E poi edificherai la tua casa	27 Complete your outdoor tasks, and arrange your work in the field; afterward you can establish your house.
28 Non essere testimonio contro al tuo prossimo senza cagione; E vorresti tu subornare alcuno con le tue labbra?	28 Be not a witness against your neighbor without just cause, thus committing folly with your lips.
29 Non dire: Come egli ha fatto a me, così farò a lui; Io renderò a costui secondo l’opera sua	29 Say not, "As he did to me, so will I do to him; I will repay the man according to his deeds."
30 Io passai già presso al campo del pigro, E presso alla vigna dell’uomo scemo di senno;	30 I passed by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man without sense;
31 Ed ecco, amendue erano tutti montati in ortiche, I cardi ne aveano coperto il disopra, E la lor chiusura di pietre era ruinata.	31 And behold! it was all overgrown with thistles; its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall broken down.
32 Ed io, riguardando ciò, vi posi mente; Vedutolo, ne presi ammaestramento.	32 And as I gazed at it, I reflected; I saw and learned the lesson:
33 Dormendo un poco, sonnecchiando un poco, Piegando un poco le mani per riposare;	33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest--
34 La tua povertà verrà come un viandante, E la tua inopia come uno scudiere	34 Then will poverty come upon you like a highwayman, and want like an armed man.
