1 Au maître de chant. Sur l’air “ne détruis pas…”. De David. Poème.	1 Unto the end, destroy not, for David, for an inscription of a title.
2 Est-elle bien vraie, messieurs les dieux, votre justice, et jugez-vous selon le droit les fils d’Adam?	2 If in very deed you speak justice: judge right things, ye sons of men.
3 Mais non, vous faites consciemment des injustices et votre main impose au pays la violence.	3 For in your heart you work iniquity: your hands forge injustice in the earth.
4 Ces méchants sont dévoyés dès le sein de leur mère, ces menteurs n’en sont sortis que pour s’égarer.	4 The wicked are alienated from the womb; they have gone astray from the womb: they have spoken false things.
5 Ils ont du venin, un venin de serpent, ils sont sourds comme l’aspic quand il se bouche l’oreille	5 Their madness is according to the likeness of a serpent: like the deaf asp that stoppeth her ears:
6 et ne veut pas entendre la voix du charmeur qui sait l’art de charmer le serpent.	6 Which will not hear the voice of the charmers; nor of the wizard that charmeth wisely.
7 Ô Dieu, brise-leur les dents dans la bouche, arrache, Seigneur, les crocs des lionceaux.	7 God shall break in pieces their teeth in their mouth: the Lord shall break the grinders of the lions.
8 Qu’ils s’écoulent comme l’eau d’un vase qui perd, qu’ils se fanent comme l’herbe piétinée.	8 They shall come to nothing, like water running down; he hath bent his bow till they be weakened.
9 Qu’ils soient comme la limace qui se fond en marchant, ou comme l’avorton qui ne voit pas le jour,	9 Like wax that melteth they shall be taken away: fire hath fallen on them, and they shall not see the sun.
10 comme ronces brûlées avant de donner l’épine. Qu’un ouragan les emporte!	10 Before your thorns could know the brier; he swalloweth them up, as alive, in his wrath.
11 Le juste verra la sanction, elle fera sa joie, il lavera ses pieds dans le sang du méchant.	11 The just shall rejoice when he shall see the revenge: he shall wash his hands in the blood of the sinner.
12 Et l’on dira: “Oui, on gagne à être juste, il y avait bien un Dieu pour juger le monde!”	12 And man shall say: If indeed there be fruit to the just: there is indeed a God that judgeth them on the earth.
