SMITH VAN DYKE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 وكلم الرب موسى قائلا	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 انتقم نقمة لبني اسرائيل من المديانيين ثم تضمّ الى قومك.	2 'Exact the ful vengeance for the Israelites on the Midianites. Afterwards you will be gathered to yourpeople.'
3 فكلم موسى الشعب قائلا. جرّدوا منكم رجالا للجند فيكونوا على مديان ليجعلوا نقمة الرب على مديان.	3 Moses said to the people, 'Some of you are to take up arms for Yahweh's campaign against Midian,to carry out the vengeance of Yahweh on Midian.
4 الفا واحدا من كل سبط من جميع اسباط اسرائيل ترسلون للحرب.	4 You will put a thousand men in the field from each of the tribes of Israel.'
5 فاختير من الوف اسرائيل الف من كل سبط. اثنا عشر الفا مجرّدون للحرب.	5 In this way Israel's thousands provided twelve thousand men equipped for war, one thousand fromeach tribe:
6 فارسلهم موسى الفا من كل سبط الى الحرب هم وفينحاس بن العازار الكاهن الى الحرب وامتعة القدس وابواق الهتاف في يده.	6 Moses put them in the field, one thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of the priest Eleazar,to go with them carrying the sacred objects and the trumpets for the battle cry.
7 فتجندوا على مديان كما امر الرب وقتلوا كل ذكر.	7 They made war on Midian, as Yahweh had ordered Moses, and put every male to death.
8 وملوك مديان قتلوهم فوق قتلاهم. أوي وراقم وصور وحور ورابع. خمسة ملوك مديان. وبلعام بن بعور قتلوه بالسيف.	8 What is more, they kil ed the kings of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, the five Midianite kings;they also put Balaam son of Beor to the sword.
9 وسبى بنو اسرائيل نساء مديان واطفالهم ونهبوا جميع بهائمهم وجميع مواشيهم وكل املاكهم.	9 The Israelites took the Midianite women and their little ones captive and carried off al their cattle, altheir flocks and al their goods as booty.
10 واحرقوا جميع مدنهم بمساكنهم وجميع حصونهم بالنار.	10 They set fire to the towns where they lived and to al their encampments.
11 واخذوا كل الغنيمة وكل النهب من الناس والبهائم	11 Then, taking al their booty, everything they had captured, human and animal,
12 وأتوا الى موسى والعازار الكاهن والى جماعة بني اسرائيل بالسبي والنهب والغنيمة الى المحلّة الى عربات موآب التي على اردن اريحا	12 they brought the captives, spoil and booty to Moses, the priest Eleazar and the whole community ofIsraelites at the camp on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho.
13 فخرج موسى والعازار الكاهن وكل رؤساء الجماعة لاستقبالهم الى خارج المحلّة.	13 Moses, the priest Eleazar and al the leaders of the community went out of the camp to meet them.
14 فسخط موسى على وكلاء الجيش رؤساء الالوف ورؤساء المئات القادمين من جند الحرب.	14 Moses was enraged with the officers of the army, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, who had come back from this military expedition.
15 وقال لهم موسى هل ابقيتم كل انثى حيّة.	15 He said, 'Why have you spared the life of al the women?
16 ان هؤلاء كنّ لبني اسرائيل حسب كلام بلعام سبب خيانة للرب في امر فغور فكان الوبأ في جماعة الرب.	16 They were the very ones who, on Balaam's advice, caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to Yahwehin the affair at Peor: hence the plague which struck Yahweh's community.
17 فالآن اقتلوا كل ذكر من الاطفال. وكل امرأة عرفت رجلا بمضاجعة ذكر اقتلوها.	17 So kil al the male children and kil al the women who have ever slept with a man;
18 لكن جميع الاطفال من النساء اللواتي لم يعرفن مضاجعة ذكر ابقوهنّ لكم حيّات.	18 but spare the lives of the young girls who have never slept with a man, and keep them foryourselves.
19 واما انتم فانزلوا خارج المحلّة سبعة ايام. وتطهّروا كل من قتل نفسا وكل من مسّ قتيلا في اليوم الثالث وفي السابع انتم وسبيكم.	19 As for you, bivouac outside the camp for seven days, everyone who has kil ed anyone or touched acorpse. Purify yourselves and your prisoners on the third and seventh days,
20 وكل ثوب وكل متاع من جلد وكل مصنوع من شعر معز وكل متاع من خشب تطهّرونه	20 and purify al clothing, everything made of skin, everything woven of goat's hair and everythingmade of wood.'
21 وقال العازار الكاهن لرجال الجند الذين ذهبوا للحرب هذه فريضة الشريعة التي امر بها الرب موسى.	21 The priest Eleazar said to the soldiers who had come back from the campaign, 'This is an article ofthe Law which Yahweh prescribed to Moses:
22 الذهب والفضة والنحاس والحديد والقصدير والرصاص	22 although gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin and lead,
23 كل ما يدخل النار تجيزونه في النار فيكون طاهرا غير انه يتطهّر بماء النجاسة. واما كل ما لا يدخل النار فتجيزونه في الماء.	23 everything that can withstand fire can be cleaned by being passed through fire, it must stil bepurified with water for purification. Whatever cannot resist fire you must pass through water.
24 وتغسلون ثيابكم في اليوم السابع فتكونون طاهرين وبعد ذلك تدخلون المحلّة	24 'Wash your clothes on the seventh day and you wil then be clean. You may then re-enter the camp.'
25 وكلم الرب موسى قائلا.	25 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
26 أحص النهب المسبيّ من الناس والبهائم انت والعازار الكاهن ورؤوس آباء الجماعة.	26 'With the priest Eleazar and the heads of families in the community, take a count of the spoils andcaptives, human and animal.
27 ونصّف النهب بين الذين باشروا القتال الخارجين الى الحرب وبين كل الجماعة.	27 You wil then share out the spoil, half and half, between those who fought the campaign and the restof the community.
28 وارفع زكوة للرب. من رجال الحرب الخارجين الى القتال واحدة. نفسا من كل خمس مئة من الناس والبقر والحمير والغنم.	28 From the share of the combatants who took part in the campaign, you wil set aside one out of everyfive hundred persons, oxen, donkeys and sheep as Yahweh's portion.
29 من نصفهم تأخذونها وتعطونها لالعازار الكاهن رفيعة للرب.	29 You wil take this from the half share coming to them and give it to the priest Eleazar as the portionset aside for Yahweh.
30 ومن نصف بني اسرائيل تأخذ واحدة مأخوذة من كل خمسين من الناس والبقر والحمير والغنم من جميع البهائم وتعطيها للاويين الحافظين شعائر مسكن الرب	30 From the half coming to the Israelites, you will take one out of every fifty persons, oxen, donkeys,sheep, and al other animals, and give them to the Levites who are responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing.'
31 ففعل موسى والعازار الكاهن كما امر الرب موسى.	31 Moses and the priest Eleazar did as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
32 وكان النهب فضلة الغنيمة التي اغتنمها رجال الجند من الغنم ست مئة وخمسة وسبعين الفا.	32 The spoils, the remainder of the booty captured by the soldiers, came to six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep and goats,
33 ومن البقر اثنين وسبعين الفا.	33 seventy-two thousand head of cattle,
34 ومن الحمير واحد وستين الفا.	34 sixty-one thousand donkeys,
35 ومن نفوس الناس من النساء اللواتي لم يعرفن مضاجعة ذكر جميع النفوس اثنين وثلاثين الفا.	35 and in persons, women who had never slept with a man, thirty-two thousand in al .
36 وكان النصف نصيب الخارجين الى الحرب عدد الغنم ثلاث مئة وسبعة وثلاثين الفا وخمس مئة.	36 Half was assigned to those who had taken part in the war, namely three hundred and thirty-seventhousand five hundred sheep and goats,
37 وكانت الزكاة للرب من الغنم ست مئة وخمسة وسبعين.	37 of which Yahweh's portion was six hundred and seventy-five,
38 والبقر ستة وثلاثين الفا وزكاتها للرب اثنين وسبعين.	38 thirty-six thousand head of cattle, of which Yahweh's portion was seventy-two,
39 والحمير ثلاثين الفا وخمس مئة وزكاتها للرب واحدا وستين.	39 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, of which Yahweh's portion was sixty-one,
40 ونفوس الناس ستة عشر الفا وزكاتها للرب اثنين وثلاثين نفسا.	40 and sixteen thousand persons, of which Yahweh's portion was thirty-two.
41 فاعطى موسى الزكاة رفيعة الرب لالعازار الكاهن كما امر الرب موسى.	41 Moses gave the priest Eleazar the portion set aside for Yahweh, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
42 واما نصف اسرائيل الذي قسمه موسى من الرجال المتجندين	42 As for the half coming to the Israelites which Moses had separated from that of the combatants,
43 فكان نصف الجماعة من الغنم ثلاث مئة وسبعة وثلاثين الفا وخمس مئة.	43 this half, the community's share, came to three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundredsheep and goats,
44 ومن البقر ستة وثلاثين الفا.	44 thirty-six thousand head of cattle,
45 ومن الحمير ثلاثين الفا وخمس مئة	45 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys
46 ومن نفوس الناس ستة عشر الفا.	46 and sixteen thousand persons.
47 فاخذ موسى من نصف بني اسرائيل المأخوذ واحدا من كل خمسين من الناس ومن البهائم واعطاها للاويين الحافظين شعائر مسكن الرب كما امر الرب موسى	47 From this half, the Israelites' share, Moses took one out of every fifty, human and animal, and gavethem to the Levites who were responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
48 ثم تقدم الى موسى الوكلاء الذين على الوف الجند رؤساء الالوف ورؤساء المئات	48 The officers of the thousands who had fought the campaign, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, came to Moses
49 وقالوا لموسى. عبيدك قد اخذوا عدد رجال الحرب الذين في ايدينا فلم يفقد منا انسان.	49 and said, 'Your servants have numbered the soldiers under their command: none of our men ismissing.
50 فقد قدمنا قربان الرب كل واحد ما وجده امتعة ذهب حجولا واساور وخواتم واقراطا وقلائد للتكفير عن انفسنا امام الرب.	50 So, as an offering for Yahweh, we have brought what each of us has found in the way of goldornaments, armlets and bracelets, rings, earrings and breastplates, to make expiation for ourselves beforeYahweh.'
51 فاخذ موسى والعازار الكاهن الذهب منهم كل امتعة مصنوعة.	51 Moses and the priest Eleazar accepted this gold from them, al this jewel ery.
52 وكان كل ذهب الرفيعة التي رفعوها للرب ستة عشر الفا وسبع مئة وخمسين شاقلا من عند رؤساء الالوف ورؤساء المئات.	52 This portion of gold given to Yahweh by the commanders of the thousands and commanders of thehundreds amounted to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.
53 اما رجال الجند فاغتنموا كل واحد لنفسه.	53 Each of the soldiers took his own booty.
54 فاخذ موسى والعازار الكاهن الذهب من رؤساء الالوف والمئات واتيا به الى خيمة الاجتماع تذكارا لبني اسرائيل امام الرب	54 But Moses and the priest Eleazar, having accepted the gold from the commanders of the thousandsand commanders of the hundreds, brought it into the Tent of Meeting, to be a reminder of the Israelites beforeYahweh.
