1 You should not rebuke an old man, but rather plead with him, as if he were your father; with young men, like brothers;	1 NON isgridar l’uomo attempato, ma esortalo come padre,
2 with old women, like mothers; with young women, in all chastity, like sisters.	2 i giovani come fratelli, le donne attempate come madri, le giovani come sorelle, in ogni castità
3 Honor those widows who are true widows.	3 Onora le vedove, che son veramente vedove.
4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let her first learn to manage her own household, and to fulfill, in turn, her own obligation to her parents; for this is acceptable before God.	4 Ma, se alcuna vedova ha dei figliuoli, o de’ nipoti, imparino essi imprima d’usar pietà inverso que’ di casa loro, e rendere il cambio a’ loro antenati; perciocchè quest’è buono ed accettevole nel cospetto di Dio.
5 But she who is truly a widow and is destitute, let her hope in God, and let her be urgent in supplications and prayers, night and day.	5 Or quella che è veramente vedova, e lasciata sola, spera in Dio, e persevera in preghiere ed orazioni, notte e giorno.
6 For she who is living in pleasures is dead, while living.	6 Ma la voluttuosa, vivendo, è morta.
7 And give instruction in this, so that they may be beyond reproach.	7 Anche queste cose annunzia, acciocchè sieno irreprensibili.
8 But if anyone has no concern for his own, and especially for those of his own household, he has denied the faith, and he is worse than an unbeliever.	8 Che se alcuno non provvede ai suoi, e principalmente a que’ di casa sua, egli ha rinnegata la fede, ed è peggiore che un infedele.
9 Let a widow be chosen who is no less than sixty years of age, who was the wife of one husband,	9 Sia la vedova assunta nel numero delle vedove, non di minore età che di sessant’anni, la qual sia stata moglie d’un sol marito.
10 who has testimony of her good works: whether she has educated children, or has provided hospitality, or has washed the feet of the saints, or has ministered to those suffering tribulation, or has pursued any kind of good work.	10 Che abbia testimonianza d’opere buone: se ha nudriti i suoi figliuoli, se ha albergati i forestieri, se ha lavati i piedi dei santi, se ha sovvenuti gli afflitti, se del continuo è ita dietro ad ogni buona opera.
11 But avoid the younger widows. For once they have flourished in Christ, they will want to marry,	11 Ma rifiuta le vedove più giovani, perciocchè, dopo che hanno lussuriato contro a Cristo, vogliono maritarsi,
12 resulting in damnation, because they have disregarded the primacy of faith.	12 avendo condannazione, perciocchè hanno rotta la prima fede.
13 And being at the same time also idle, they learn to go from house to house, being not only idle, but also talkative and curious, speaking of things which do not concern them.	13 Ed anche, essendo, oltre a ciò, oziose, imparano ad andare attorno per le case; e non sol sono oziose, ma anche cianciatrici e curiose, parlando di cose che non si convengono.
14 Therefore, I want the younger women to marry, to procreate children, to be mothers of families, to provide no ready opportunity for the adversary to speak evil.	14 Io voglio adunque che le giovani vedove si maritino, faccian figliuoli, sieno madri di famiglia, non dieno all’avversario alcuna occasione di maldicenza.
15 For certain ones have already been turned back to Satan.	15 Poichè già alcune si sono sviate dietro a Satana.
16 If any among the faithful have widows, let him minister to them and not burden the Church, so that there may be enough for those who are true widows.	16 Se alcun uomo, o donna fedele, ha delle vedove, sovvenga loro, e non sia la chiesa gravata, acciocchè possa bastare a sovvenir quelle che son veramente vedove
17 Let priests who lead well be held worthy of twice the honor, especially those who labor in the Word and in doctrine.	17 GLI anziani, che fanno bene l’ufficio della presidenza, sien reputati degni di doppio onore; principalmente quelli che faticano nella parola e nella dottrina.
18 For Scripture says: “You shall not muzzle an ox as it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his pay.”	18 Perciocchè la scrittura dice: Non metter la museruola in bocca al bue che trebbia; e: L’operaio è degno del suo premio.
19 Do not be willing to accept an accusation against a priest, except under two or three witnesses.	19 Non ricevere accusa contro all’anziano, se non in su due o tre testimoni.
20 Reprove sinners in the sight of everyone, so that the others may have fear.	20 Riprendi, nel cospetto di tutti, quelli che peccano; acciocchè gli altri ancora abbian timore.
21 I testify before God and Christ Jesus and the elect Angels, that you should observe these things without prejudgment, doing nothing which shows favoritism to either side.	21 Io ti scongiuro davanti a Dio, e il Signor Gesù Cristo, e gli angeli eletti, che tu osservi queste cose senza pregiudicio, non facendo nulla per parzialità.
22 You should not be quick to impose hands on anyone, nor should you take part in the sins of outsiders. Keep yourself chaste.	22 Non imporre tosto le mani ad alcuno, e non partecipare i peccati altrui; conserva te stesso puro.
23 Do not continue to drink only water, but make use of a little wine, for the sake of your stomach and your frequent infirmities.	23 Non usar più per l’innanzi acqua sola nel tuo bere, ma usa un poco di vino, per lo tuo stomaco, e per le frequenti tue infermità.
24 The sins of some men have been made manifest, preceding them to judgment, but those of others are manifested later.	24 D’alcuni uomini i peccati son manifesti, prima che sian giudicati; ma ve ne sono altri che si vedono solo dopo.
25 Similarly, too, good deeds have been made manifest, but even when they are not, they cannot remain hidden.	25 Le buone opere d’alcuni altresì son manifeste; e quelle che sono altrimenti non possono essere occultate
