1 Timothy 5

1 You should not rebuke an old man, but rather plead with him, as if he were your father; with young men, like brothers;	1 Al anciano no le reprendas con dureza, sino exhórtale como a un padre; a los jóvenes, como a hermanos;
2 with old women, like mothers; with young women, in all chastity, like sisters.	2 a los ancianas, como a madres; a las jóvenes, como a hermanas, con toda pureza.
3 Honor those widows who are true widows.	3 Honra a las viudas, a las que son verdaderamente viudas.
4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let her first learn to manage her own household, and to fulfill, in turn, her own obligation to her parents; for this is acceptable before God.	4 Si una viuda tiene hijos o nietos, que aprendan éstos primero a practicar los deberes de piedad para con los de su propia familia y a corresponder a sus progenitores, porque esto es agradable a Dios.
5 But she who is truly a widow and is destitute, let her hope in God, and let her be urgent in supplications and prayers, night and day.	5 Pero la que de verdad es viuda y ha quedado enteramente sola, tiene puesta su esperanza en el Señor y perservera en sus plegarias y oraciones noche y día.
6 For she who is living in pleasures is dead, while living.	6 La que, en cambio, está entregada a los placeres aunque viva, está muerta.
7 And give instruction in this, so that they may be beyond reproach.	7 Todo esto incúlcalo también, para que sean irreprensibles.
8 But if anyone has no concern for his own, and especially for those of his own household, he has denied the faith, and he is worse than an unbeliever.	8 Si alguien no tiene cuidado de los suyos, principalmente de sus familiares, ha renegado de la fe y es peor que un infiel.
9 Let a widow be chosen who is no less than sixty years of age, who was the wife of one husband,	9 Que la viuda que sea inscrita en el catálogo de las viudas no tenga menos de sesenta años, haya estado casada una sola vez,
10 who has testimony of her good works: whether she has educated children, or has provided hospitality, or has washed the feet of the saints, or has ministered to those suffering tribulation, or has pursued any kind of good work.	10 y tenga el testimonio de sus buenas obras: haber educado bien a los hijos, practicado la hospitalidad, lavado los pies de los santos, socorrido a los atribulados, y haberse ejercitado en toda clase de buenas obras.
11 But avoid the younger widows. For once they have flourished in Christ, they will want to marry,	11 Descarta, en cambio, a las viudas jóvenes, porque cuando les asaltan los placeres contrarios a Cristo, quieren casarse
12 resulting in damnation, because they have disregarded the primacy of faith.	12 e incurren así en condenación por haber faltado a su compromiso anterior.
13 And being at the same time also idle, they learn to go from house to house, being not only idle, but also talkative and curious, speaking of things which do not concern them.	13 Y además, estando ociosas, aprenden a ir de casa en casa; y no sólo están ociosas, sino que se vuelven también charlatanas y entrometidas, hablando de lo que no deben.
14 Therefore, I want the younger women to marry, to procreate children, to be mothers of families, to provide no ready opportunity for the adversary to speak evil.	14 Quiero, pues, que las jóvenes se casen, que tengan hijos y que gobiernen la propia casa y no den al adversario ningún motivo de hablar mal;
15 For certain ones have already been turned back to Satan.	15 pues ya algunas se han extraviado yendo en pos de Satanás.
16 If any among the faithful have widows, let him minister to them and not burden the Church, so that there may be enough for those who are true widows.	16 Si alguna creyente tiene viudas, atiéndalas ella misma y no las cargue a la Iglesia, a fin de que ésta pueda atender a las que sean verdaderamente viudas.
17 Let priests who lead well be held worthy of twice the honor, especially those who labor in the Word and in doctrine.	17 Los presbíteros que ejercen bien su cargo merecen doble remuneración, principalmente los que se afanan en la predicación y en la enseñanza.
18 For Scripture says: “You shall not muzzle an ox as it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his pay.”	18 La Escritura, en efecto, dice: No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla, y también: El obrero tiene derecho a su salario.
19 Do not be willing to accept an accusation against a priest, except under two or three witnesses.	19 No admitas ninguna acusación contra un presbítero si no viene con el testimonio de dos o tres.
20 Reprove sinners in the sight of everyone, so that the others may have fear.	20 A los culpables, repréndeles delante de todos, para que los demás cobren temor.
21 I testify before God and Christ Jesus and the elect Angels, that you should observe these things without prejudgment, doing nothing which shows favoritism to either side.	21 Yo te conjuro en presencia de Dios, de Cristo Jesús y de los ángeles escogidos, que observes estas recomendaciones sin dejarte llevar de prejuicios ni favoritismos.
22 You should not be quick to impose hands on anyone, nor should you take part in the sins of outsiders. Keep yourself chaste.	22 No te precipites en imponer a nadie las manos, no te hagas partícipe de los pecados ajenos. Consérvate puro.
23 Do not continue to drink only water, but make use of a little wine, for the sake of your stomach and your frequent infirmities.	23 No bebas ya agua sola. Toma un poco de vino a causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes indisposiciones.
24 The sins of some men have been made manifest, preceding them to judgment, but those of others are manifested later.	24 Los pecados de algunas personas son notorios aun antes de que sean investigados; en cambio los de otras, lo son solamente después.
25 Similarly, too, good deeds have been made manifest, but even when they are not, they cannot remain hidden.	25 Del mismo modo las obras buenas son manifiestas; y las que no lo son, no pueden quedar ocultas.
