1 “Woe to the sons of apostasy!” says the Lord. For you would take advice, but not from me. And you would begin to weave, but not by my spirit. Thus do you add sin upon sin!	1 Malheur aux fils rebelles, dit Yahvé; ils font des projets mais sans moi, ils font des alliances que je n’ai pas inspirées. Ils accumulent ainsi péché sur péché.
2 You are walking so as to descend into Egypt, and you have not sought answers from my mouth, instead hoping for assistance from the strength of Pharaoh and placing trust in the shadow of Egypt.	2 Les voilà qui partent, qui descendent en Égypte sans m’avoir consulté; ils cherchent la protection du Pharaon, ils veulent s’abriter à l’ombre de l’Égypte.
3 And so, the strength of Pharaoh will be your confusion, and trust in the shadow of Egypt will be your disgrace.	3 Mais la protection du Pharaon tournera à votre confusion, l’ombre de l’Égypte sera pour vous une déception.
4 For your leaders were at Tanis, and your messengers have traveled even as far as Hanes.	4 Vos chefs sont allés à Soan, vos envoyés ont atteint Hanès,
5 They have all been confounded because of a people who were not able to offer profit to them, who were not of assistance, nor of other usefulness, except to offer confusion and reproach.	5 mais tous seront déçus d’un peuple incapable de secourir; ils ne trouveront ni aide ni secours auprès d’eux, mais seulement déception et confusion.
6 The burden of the beasts in the south. In a land of tribulation and anguish, from which go forth the lioness and the lion, the viper and the flying king snake, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of beasts of burden, and their valuables upon the humps of camels, to a people who are not able to offer profit to them.	6 Oracle sur les bêtes du Négueb. Traversant les terres éprouvantes, accablantes, de la lionne et du lion rugissant, de la vipère et du serpent volant, ils emportent leurs cadeaux à dos d’âne, leurs trésors, sur la bosse des chameaux, vers un peuple incapable de secourir.
7 For Egypt will offer assistance, but without purpose or success. Therefore, concerning this, I cried out: “It is only arrogance! Remain calm.”	7 L’Égypte! Une aide vaine et illusoire, c’est pourquoi je l’ai surnommé “Rahab, l’incapable!”
8 Now, therefore, enter and write for them upon a tablet, and note it diligently in a book, and this shall be a testimony in the last days, and even unto eternity.	8 Tu vas écrire ceci sur une tablette; inscris-le sur un document, que ce soit un témoin pour toujours jusqu’au dernier jour.
9 For they are a people who provoke to wrath, and they are lying sons, sons unwilling to listen to the law of God.	9 Car c’est un peuple rebelle, ce sont des fils infidèles, des fils qui n’aiment pas entendre ce qu’enseigne Yahvé.
10 They say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to those who behold: “Do not behold for us the things that are right. Speak to us of pleasing things. See errors for us.	10 Ils ont dit aux voyants: “Ne voyez rien!” aux visionnaires: “Plus de visions sur la réalité! Dites-nous des choses agréables, voyez des choses fantastiques.
11 Take me from the way. Avert me from the path. Let the Holy One of Israel cease from before our face.”	11 Déviez de la route, sortez du chemin, ne nous ramenez plus le Saint d’Israël!”
12 Because of this, thus says the Holy One of Israel: Since you have rejected this word, and you have hoped in calumny and rebellion, and since you have depended upon these things,	12 Or voici ce que dit le Saint d’Israël: “Vous avez donc rejeté ce message, vous avez recours à l’impôt forcé, aux mensonges, et vous comptez dessus:
13 for this reason, this iniquity will be to you like a breach that has fallen, and like a gap in a high wall. For its destruction will happen suddenly, when it is not expected.	13 eh bien, sachez que cette faute sera comme la fente qui apparaît sur un rempart élevé; elle grandit, elle menace, et soudain, d’un seul coup, le rempart s’écroule.
14 And it will be crushed, just as the earthen vessel of a potter is destroyed by a sharp blow. And not even a fragment of its earthenware will be found, which might carry a little fire from the hearth, or which might draw a little water from a hollow.	14 Il s’est brisé comme un vase de potier fracassé sans pitié. On ne trouvera même plus un morceau pour prendre de la braise dans le feu ou puiser de l’eau dans une mare.”
15 For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: If you return and are quiet, you shall be saved. Your strength will be found in silence and in hope. But you are not willing!	15 Et voici ce que dit le Seigneur Yahvé, le Saint d’Israël: “La conversion et la patience vous auraient sauvés, la sagesse et la confiance auraient été votre force. Au contraire
16 And you have said: “Never! Instead, we will flee by horseback.” For this reason, you will be put to flight. And you have said, “We will climb upon swift ones.” For this reason, those who pursue you will be even swifter.	16 vous avez dit: ‘Nous aurons des chevaux pour fuir!’ C’est bien: vous fuirez! Vous avez dit encore: ‘Nous monterons des chevaux rapides!’ Eh bien, ceux qui vous poursuivent seront plus rapides encore!
17 A thousand men will flee in terror from the face of one, and you will flee in terror from the face of five, until you who have been left behind are like the mast of a ship at the top of a mountain, or like a sign on a hill.	17 Devant la menace d’un seul homme, mille trembleront; devant la menace de cinq, vous prendrez la fuite, et il ne restera de vous qu’un reste, semblable à un piquet sur le sommet de la montagne, à un signal sur une colline.”
18 Therefore, the Lord waits, so that he may take pity on you. And therefore, he will be exalted for sparing you. For the Lord is the God of judgment. Blessed are all those who wait for him.	18 Mais voilà que Yahvé attend pour vous pardonner. Il se lèvera et il aura pitié de vous, car Yahvé est un Dieu juste: heureux tous ceux qui l’attendent!
19 For the people of Zion will live in Jerusalem. Bitterly, you will not weep. Mercifully, he will take pity on you. At the voice of your outcry, as soon as he hears, he will respond to you.	19 Oui, peuple de Sion, toi qui habites Jérusalem, ne pleure plus désormais, car dès que tu appelleras il aura pitié de toi, dès qu’il t’aura entendu il répondra.
20 And the Lord will give you thick bread and accessible water. And he will not cause your teacher to fly away from you anymore. And your eyes will behold your instructor.	20 Après que le Seigneur vous aura donné le pain de l’angoisse et l’eau de la détresse, celui qui t’instruit ne se cachera plus et de tes yeux tu verras celui qui t’instruit.
21 And your ears will listen to the word of one admonishing you behind your back: “This is the way! Walk in it! And do not turn aside, neither to the right, nor to the left.”	21 Lorsqu’il vous faudra prendre le chemin de droite ou de gauche, vous entendrez derrière vous une voix qui dira: “Voici le chemin, suivez-le.”
22 And you will defile the plates of your silver graven images and the vestment of your gold molten idols. And you will throw these things away like the uncleanness of a menstruating woman. You will say to it, “Go away!”	22 Tu regarderas comme impur l’argent de tes idoles sculptées, l’or qui recouvre tes statues de bronze; vous les rejetterez comme des ordures et vous leur direz: “Hors d’ici!”
23 And wherever you sow seed upon the earth, rain will be given to the seed. And bread from the grain of the earth will be very plentiful and full. In that day, the lamb will pasture in the spacious land of your possession.	23 Le Seigneur enverra la pluie sur les graines que tu auras semées en terre, et le pain que la terre donnera sera bon et abondant. En ce jour-là tes troupeaux brouteront dans de gras pâturages,
24 And your bulls, and the colts of the donkeys that work the ground, will eat a mix of grains like that winnowed on the threshing floor.	24 les bœufs et les ânes qui travaillent la terre mangeront un bon fourrage qu’on étendra à la pelle et à la fourche.
25 And there will be, on every lofty mountain, and on every elevated hill, rivers of running water, in the day of the slaughter of many, when the tower will fall.	25 Au jour du grand massacre, quand les forteresses tomberont, on verra des ruisseaux et des canaux remplis d’eau sur toute haute montagne et sur toute colline élevée.
26 And the light of the moon will be like the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold, like the light of seven days, in the day when the Lord will bind the wound of his people, and when he will heal the stroke of their scourge.	26 La lumière de la lune deviendra comme la lumière du soleil, et la lumière du soleil sera sept fois plus forte; ce jour-là Yahvé soignera la blessure de son peuple et le guérira des coups qu’il lui a donnés.
27 Behold, the name of the Lord arrives from far away. His fury is burning and heavy to bear. His lips have been filled with indignation, and his tongue is like a devouring fire.	27 Voici que le Nom de Yahvé vient d’un pays lointain; sa colère brûle, pesante, écrasante; on lit sur ses lèvres la fureur, sa langue est un feu dévorant,
28 His Spirit is like a torrent, inundating, even as high as the middle of the neck, in order to reduce the nations to nothing, along with the bridle of error that was in the jaws of the people.	28 son souffle est comme un torrent qui déborde et qui vous monte jusqu’au cou. Car il vient détruire les nations et les passer au tamis, il vient mettre un mors à la mâchoire des peuples et il les enverra au diable.
29 There will be a song for you, as in the night of a sanctified solemnity, and a joy of heart, as when one travels with music to arrive at the mountain of the Lord, to the Strong One of Israel.	29 Alors vous chanterez comme dans les nuits de fête et vous aurez le cœur plein de joie, comme celui qui va au son de la flûte, au son des tambourins et des harpes, à la montagne de Yahvé, près du Rocher d’Israël.
30 And the Lord will cause the glory of his voice to be heard, and, with a threatening fury and a devouring flame of fire, he will reveal the terror of his arm. He will crush with the whirlwind and with hailstones.	30 Yahvé fera entendre sa voix puissante, il déchaînera la violence de sa colère avec la flamme d’un feu dévorant, avec la tempête, l’ouragan et la grêle.
31 For at the voice of the Lord, Assur will dread being struck with the staff.	31 L’Assyrie tremblera à la voix de Yahvé qui la frappe,
32 And when the passage of the staff has been begun, the Lord will cause it to rest upon him, with timbrels and harps. And with special battles, he will fight against them.	32 car voici qu’il la frappe et qu’il la frappe encore.
33 For a burning place, deep and wide, has been prepared from yesterday, prepared by the King. Its nourishment is fire and much wood. The breath of the Lord, like a torrent of brimstone, kindles it.	33 Oui, le bûcher est déjà préparé, il est aussi pour le roi! Un grand, un large bûcher, où le feu et le bois ne manquent pas. Le souffle de Yahvé, comme un torrent de soufre fera prendre le feu.
