Proverbs 27

1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what the future day may bring.	1 Non ti vantar del domani, perchè non sai quel che possa produrre il giorno da venire.
2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth: an outsider, and not your own lips.	2 Altri ti lodi, non la tua bocca,
3 A stone is weighty, and sand is burdensome; but the wrath of the foolish is heavier than both.	3 un estraneo, non le tue labbra. Grave è la pietra, pesante la sabbia, ma più pesante dell'una e dell'altra è l'ira dello stolto.
4 Anger holds no mercy, nor does fury when it erupts. And who can bear the assault of one who has been provoked?	4 L'ira e l'impetuoso furore non han misericordia, ma l'impeto della gelosia chi potrà sostenerlo?
5 An open rebuke is better than hidden love.	5 Meglio riprensione aperta che amore occulto.
6 The wounds of a loved one are better than the deceitful kisses of a hateful one.	6 Son migliori le ferite di chi ama che i falsi baci di chi odia.
7 A sated soul will trample the honeycomb. And a hungry soul will accept even bitter in place of sweet.	7 Chi è satollo calpesterà il favo di miele, ma per chi ha fame è dolce anche l'amaro.
8 Just like a bird migrating from her nest, so also is a man who abandons his place.	8 Come uccello che va ramingo lungi dal nido, così l'uomo che abbandona il suo posto.
9 Ointment and various perfumes delight the heart. And the good advice of a friend is sweet to the soul.	9 Il cuore trova piacere nell'unguento e nei vari odori, l'anima trova conforto nei buoni consigli d'un amico.
10 Do not dismiss your friend or your father’s friend. And do not enter your brother’s house in the day of your affliction. A close neighbor is better than a distant brother.	10 Non abbandonare l'amico tuo, nè l'amico di tuo padre e non andare a casa del tuo fratello nel giorno della tua afflizione. Un vicino al fianco vai più d'un fratello da lontano.
11 My son, study wisdom, and rejoice my heart, so that you may be able to respond to the one who reproaches.	11 Applicati alla sapienza, figlio mio, rallegrami il cuore; così potrai rispondere a chi t'insulta.
12 The discerning man, seeing evil, hides himself. The little ones, continuing on, sustain losses.	12 L'astuto, visto il pericolo, si nasconde, l'incauto passa avanti e ne paga il fio.
13 Take away the garment of him who has vouched for an outsider. And take a pledge from him on behalf of foreigners.	13 Togli la veste a chi s'è fatto mallevadore per uno straniero, e per i forestieri prendi il pegno a lui.
14 Whoever blesses his neighbor with a grand voice, rising in the night, shall be like one who curses.	14 Colui che benedice il suo prossimo ad alta voce di buon mattino, sarà simile a chi lo maledice.
15 A roof leaking on a cold day, and an argumentative woman, are comparable.	15 Lo sgocciolio del tetto nella fredda stagione e la donna litigiosa si somigliano.
16 He who would restrain her, he is like one who would grasp the wind, or who would gather together oil with his right hand.	16 Chi la ritiene è come colui che vuol tenere il vento e stringer l'olio nella sua destra.
17 Iron sharpens iron, and a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.	17 Il ferro si affila col ferro e l'uomo acuisce l'ingegno del suo amico.
18 Whoever maintains the fig tree shall eat its fruit. And whoever is the keeper of his master shall be glorified.	18 Chi ha cura del fico ne mangerà i frutti, e chi custodisce il suo padrone sarà onorato.
19 In the manner of faces looking into shining water, so are the hearts of men made manifest to the prudent.	19 Come nelle acque si riflettono i visi di chi vi si specchia, così i cuori degli uomini son manifesti ai sapienti.
20 Hell and perdition are never filled; similarly the eyes of men are insatiable.	20 L'inferno e la morte non son mai pieni, così gli occhi degli uomini sono insaziabili.
21 In the manner of silver being tested in the refinery, and gold in the furnace, so also is a man tested by the mouth of one who praises. The heart of the iniquitous inquires after evils, but the heart of the righteous inquires after knowledge.	21 Come si prova al crogiolo l'argento e al fornello l'oro, così vien provato l'uomo nella bocca di chi lo loda. Il cuore dell'iniquo cerca il male, il cuore diritto cerca la scienza.
22 Even if you were to crush the foolish with a mortar, as when a pestle strikes over pearled barley, his foolishness would not be taken from him.	22 Anche se pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio, come si fa dell'orzo, col pestello, non gli leveresti la sua stoltezza.
23 Be diligent to know the countenance of your cattle, and consider your own flocks,	23 Bada bene allo stato del tuo gregge, ed abbi cura delle tue mandre,
24 for you will not always hold this power. But a crown shall be awarded from generation to generation.	24 perchè non ne avrai sempre il possesso: anche la corona è data di generazione in generazione.
25 The meadows are open, and the green plants have appeared, and the hay has been collected from the mountains.	25 I prati sono aperti, spuntano le verdi erbette, è raccolto il fieno dei monti;
26 Lambs are for your clothing, and goats are for the price of a field.	26 e gli agnelli ti forniscon le vesti, i capretti ti pagano il campo;
27 Let the milk of goats be sufficient for your food, and for the necessities of your household, and for the provisions of your handmaids.	27 il latte delle capre può bastare a nutrirti, al necessario della tua famiglia, al mantenimento delle tue serve.
