Psalms 72

1 A Psalm of Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to those who are upright in heart.	1 (Salmo di Asai). Quanto è buono Dio con Israele, con quelli che son retti di cuore!
2 But my feet were nearly moved; my steps had nearly slipped.	2 Ma poco mancò che i miei piedi non vacillassero, che i miei passi non uscissero fuori di strada;
3 For I was zealous over the iniquitous, seeing the peacefulness of sinners.	3 perchè mi adirai a causa degli iniqui, vedendo la pace dei peccatori.
4 For they have no respect for their death, nor do they have support in their wounds.	4 Essi non pensano alla loro morte, le loro piaghe son di corta durata.
5 They are not with the hardships of men, nor will they be scourged with men.	5 Non han la loro parte negli affanni umani, e non son colpiti come il resto degli uomini.
6 Therefore, arrogance has held on to them. They have been covered with their iniquity and impiety.	6 Per questo li prese la superbia, e si son coperti d'iniquità e d'empietà.
7 Their iniquity has proceeded, as if from fat. They have parted from the affection of the heart.	7 L'iniquità par che venga fuori dal loro grasso; si sono abbandonati alle passioni del cuore.
8 They have thought and spoken wickedness. They have spoken iniquity in high places.	8 Pensano e parlano perversamente, altezzosamente ragionano di far del male.
9 They have set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue has traversed the earth.	9 Hanno messa la loro bocca contro il cielo e la loro lingua percorre la terra.
10 Therefore, my people will be converted here, and fullness of days will be found in them.	10 Ecco perchè il mio popolo si rivolge da questa parte: in loro si trovano giorni d'abbondanza.
11 And they said, “How would God know?” and, “Isn’t there knowledge in high places?”	11 E dicono: « Come lo sa Dio? C'è forse la scienza nell'Altissimo? »
12 Behold, these are sinners, and, abounding in this age, they have obtained riches.	12 Ecco come sono gli empi: pieni d'abbondanza nel mondo, hanno ammassate ricchezze.
13 And I said: So then, it is without purpose that I have justified my heart and washed my hands among the innocent.	13 Ed io dissi: « Dunque invano ho purificato il mio cuore, ho lavate tra gli innocenti le mie mani:
14 And I have been scourged all day long, and I have received my chastisement in the mornings.	14 «Sono flagellato tutto il giorno, e il mio castigo è lì ogni mattino ».
15 If I were to say that I would explain this: Behold, I would condemn this nation of your sons.	15 Se io avessi detto: «Parlerò così », ecco riproverei la nazione dei tuoi figli.
16 I considered, so that I might know this. It is a hardship before me,	16 Credevo di poter conoscere questa cosa, ma l'affanno mi stette dinanzi.
17 until I may enter into the Sanctuary of God, and understand it to its last part.	17 Finché non entrai nel santuario di Dio e compresi quale sia la loro fine:
18 So, because of deceitfulness, truly, you have placed it before them. While they were being lifted up, you were casting them down.	18 In verità li hai messi vicini agl'inganni, li abbatti mentre si i levano in alto.
19 How have they been brought to desolation? They have suddenly failed. They have perished because of their iniquity.	19 Come son caduti in desolazione! Sono svaniti in un momento, son periti per la loro iniquità.
20 As a dream is to those who awaken, O Lord, so will you reduce their image to nothing in your city.	20 Come il sogno di chi si sveglia, o Signore, riduci a niente nella a tua città il loro fantasma.
21 For my heart has been inflamed, and my temperament has been changed.	21 Il mio cuore era infiammato, i miei reni erano alterati
22 And so, I have been reduced to nothing, and I did not know it.	22 Ero ridotto un niente e non i capivo:
23 I have become like a beast of burden to you, and I am always with you.	23 Dinanzi a te ero diventato come un giumento. Ma sarò sempre con te.
24 You have held my right hand. And in your will, you have conducted me, and with your glory, you have taken me up.	24 Mi prendi per la mano destra, mi conduci a tuo beneplacito, mi accoglierai con onore.
25 For what is there for me in heaven? And what do I wish for on earth before you?	25 Che c'è per me in cielo? E che desidero da te sopra la terra?
26 My body has failed, and my heart: O God of my heart, and God my portion, into eternity.	26 La mia carne vien meno, e così il mio cuore: il Dio del mio cuore, la mia parte è Dio in eterno.
27 For behold, those who put themselves far from you will perish. You have perished all those who fornicate away from you.	27 Ecco, quelli che si allontanano da te periranno: tu mandi in perdizione tutti quelli che non ti rimangono fedeli.
28 But it is good for me to adhere to God, to put my hope in the Lord God, so that I may announce all your prophecies, at the gates of the daughter of Zion.	28 Per me è la mia felicità stare unito con Dio e porre nel Signore Dio la mia speranza, per annunziare tutte le tue lodi dentro le porte della figlia di Sion.
