Unto the end. The understanding of the sons of Korah.1 εις το τελος εις συνεσιν τοις υιοις κορε
As the deer longs for fountains of water, so my soul longs for you, O God.2 ον τροπον επιποθει η ελαφος επι τας πηγας των υδατων ουτως επιποθει η ψυχη μου προς σε ο θεος
My soul has thirsted for the strong living God. When will I draw close and appear before the face of God?3 εδιψησεν η ψυχη μου προς τον θεον τον ζωντα ποτε ηξω και οφθησομαι τω προσωπω του θεου
My tears have been my bread, day and night. Meanwhile, it is said to me daily: “Where is your God?”4 εγενηθη μοι τα δακρυα μου αρτος ημερας και νυκτος εν τω λεγεσθαι μοι καθ' εκαστην ημεραν που εστιν ο θεος σου
These things I have remembered; and my soul within me, I have poured out. For I will cross into the place of the wonderful tabernacle, all the way to the house of God, with a voice of exultation and confession, the sound of feasting.5 ταυτα εμνησθην και εξεχεα επ' εμε την ψυχην μου οτι διελευσομαι εν τοπω σκηνης θαυμαστης εως του οικου του θεου εν φωνη αγαλλιασεως και εξομολογησεως ηχου εορταζοντος
Why are you sad, my soul? And why do you disquiet me? Hope in God, for I will still confess to him: the salvation of my countenance,6 ινα τι περιλυπος ει ψυχη και ινα τι συνταρασσεις με ελπισον επι τον θεον οτι εξομολογησομαι αυτω σωτηριον του προσωπου μου ο θεος μου
and my God. My soul has been troubled within myself. Because of this, I will remember you from the land of the Jordan and from Hermon, from the little mountain.7 προς εμαυτον η ψυχη μου εταραχθη δια τουτο μνησθησομαι σου εκ γης ιορδανου και ερμωνιιμ απο ορους μικρου
Abyss calls upon abyss, with the voice of your floodgate. All your heights and your waves have passed over me.8 αβυσσος αβυσσον επικαλειται εις φωνην των καταρρακτων σου παντες οι μετεωρισμοι σου και τα κυματα σου επ' εμε διηλθον
In the daylight, the Lord has ordered his mercy; and in the night, a canticle to him. With me is a prayer to the God of my life.9 ημερας εντελειται κυριος το ελεος αυτου και νυκτος ωδη παρ' εμοι προσευχη τω θεω της ζωης μου
I will say to God, “You are my supporter. Why have you forgotten me? And why do I walk in mourning, while my adversary afflicts me?”10 ερω τω θεω αντιλημπτωρ μου ει δια τι μου επελαθου ινα τι σκυθρωπαζων πορευομαι εν τω εκθλιβειν τον εχθρον μου
While my bones are being broken, my enemies, who trouble me, have reproached me. Meanwhile, they say to me every single day, “Where is your God?”11 εν τω καταθλασαι τα οστα μου ωνειδισαν με οι θλιβοντες με εν τω λεγειν αυτους μοι καθ' εκαστην ημεραν που εστιν ο θεος σου
My soul, why are you saddened? And why do you disquiet me? Hope in God, for I will still confess to him: the salvation of my countenance and my God.12 ινα τι περιλυπος ει ψυχη και ινα τι συνταρασσεις με ελπισον επι τον θεον οτι εξομολογησομαι αυτω η σωτηρια του προσωπου μου ο θεος μου
