Canticum. Psalmus. Filiorum Core. | 1 [Song Psalm Of the sons of Korah] Great is Yahweh and most worthy of praise in the city of our God,the holy mountain, |
Magnus Dominus et laudabilis nimis in civitate Dei nostri. | 2 towering in beauty, the joy of the whole world: Mount Zion in the heart of the north, the settlement ofthe great king; |
Mons sanctus eius collis speciosus, exsultatio universae terrae. Mons Sion, extrema aquilonis, civitas regis magni. | 3 God himself among its palaces has proved himself its bulwark. |
Deus in domibus eius notus factus est ut refugium. | 4 For look, kings made al iance, together they advanced; |
Quoniam ecce reges congregati sunt, convenerunt in unum. | 5 without a second glance, when they saw, they panicked and fled away. |
Ipsi cum viderunt, sic admirati sunt, conturbati sunt, diffugerunt; | 6 Trembling seized them on the spot, pains like those of a woman in labour; |
illic tremor apprehendit eos, dolores ut parturientis. | 7 it was the east wind, that wrecker of ships from Tarshish. |
In spiritu orientis conteres naves Tharsis. | 8 What we had heard we saw for ourselves in the city of our God, in the city of Yahweh Sabaoth, whichGod has established for ever.Pause |
Sicut audivimus, sic vidimus in civitate Domini virtutum, in civitate Dei nostri; Deus fundavit eam in aeternum. | 9 We reflect on your faithful love, God, in your temple! |
Recogitamus, Deus, misericordiam tuam in medio templi tui. | 10 Both your name and your praise, God, are over the whole wide world. Your right hand is ful of savingjustice, |
Secundum nomen tuum, Deus, sic et laus tua in fines terrae; iustitia plena est dextera tua. | 11 Mount Zion rejoices, the daughters of Judah delight because of your saving justice. |
Laetetur mons Sion, et exsultent filiae Iudae propter iudicia tua. | 12 Go round Zion, walk right through her, count her bastions, |
Circumdate Sion et complectimini eam, numerate turres eius. | 13 admire her walls, examine her palaces, to tel future generations |
Ponite corda vestra in virtute eius et percurrite domos eius, ut enarretis in progenie altera. | 14 that such is God; our God for ever and ever, he is our guide! |
Quoniam hic est Deus, Deus noster in aeternum et in saeculum saeculi; ipse ducet nos in saecula. |
