| 1 Quello, che fu da principio, quello, che udimmo, quello, che vedemmo cogli occhi nostri, e contemplammo, e colle nostre mani palpammo di quel Verbo di vita: | 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life-- |
| 2 E la vita si è manifestala, e vedemmo, e attestiamo, annunziamo a voi la vita eterna, la quale era appresso al Padre, e apparve a noi: | 2 the life was made manifest, and we saw it, and testify to it, and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was made manifest to us-- |
| 3 Quello, che vedemmo, e udimmo. Io annunziamo a voi, affinchè voi pure abbiate società con noi, e la nostra società sia col Padre, e col Figliuolo di lui Gesù Cristo. | 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. |
| 4 E queste cose scriviamo a voi, affinchè ne godiate, e il gaudio vostro sia compiuto. | 4 And we are writing this that our joy may be complete. |
| 5 Questo è adunque l'annunzio, che abbiamo udito da lui, e lo facciam sapere a voi che Dio è luce, né vi son tenebre in lui. | 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. |
| 6 Se diremo d'aver società con lui, e camminerem nelle tenebre, diciamo bugia, e non siamo veraci. | 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth; |
| 7 Che se camminiam nella luce, com' anch' egli sta nella luce, abbiam società scambievole con esso, e il sangue di Gesù Cristo suo Figliuolo ci purga da ogni peccato. | 7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. |
| 8 Se diremo, che non abbiam colpa, noi inganniamo noi stessi, e non è in noi verità. | 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. |
| 9 Se confessiamo i nostri peccati: egli è fedele, e giusto per rimetterci i nostri peccati, e mondarci da ogni iniquità. | 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. |
| 10 Se diremo, che non abbiamo peccato: facciamo bugiardo lui, e la sua parola non è in noi. | 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. |
