| 3 Ed ha manifestato a suo tempo il suo Verbo per mezzo della predicazione, che è stata confidata a me per ordine del Salvator nostro Dio: | 3 and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by command of God our Savior; To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. |

| 5 A questo fine io ti lasciai in Creta, perchè tu dia sesto a quel, che rimane, e stabilisca de' preti per le città conforme io ti prescrissi. | 5 This is why I left you in Crete, that you might amend what was defective, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you, |
| 6 Uom, che sia senza taccia, che abbia avuto una sola moglie, che abbia i figliuoli fedeli, che non sian accusati di lussuria, o indisciplinati. | 6 if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of being profligate or insubordinate. |
| 7 Conciossiachè fa d'uopo, che il Vescovo sia senza colpa, come economo di Dio: non superbo, non iracondo, non dedito al vino, non violento, non amante del vil guadagno: | 7 For a bishop, as God's steward, must be blameless; he must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, |
| 8 Ma ospitale, benigno, temperante, giusto, santo, continente, | 8 but hospitable, a lover of goodness, master of himself, upright, holy, and self-controlled; |
| 9 Tenace di quella parola fedele, che è secondo la dottrina: affinchè sia capace di esortare con sana dottrina, e di convincere i contradditori. | 9 he must hold firm to the sure word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to confute those who contradict it. |
| 10 Imperocché vi sono ancora molti disubbidienti, chiaccheroni, e seduttori: massimamente quegli, che sono del numero de' circoncisi: | 10 For there are many insubordinate men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially the circumcision party; |
| 11 A' quali bisogna turar la bocca: che mettono a soqquadro tutte le case, insegnando cose, che non convengono, per amore di vil guadagno. | 11 they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for base gain what they have no right to teach. |
| 12 Disse uno di essi, proprio loro profeta: i Cretensi sempre bugiardi, cattive bestie, ventri pigri. | 12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." |
| 13 Questo dettato è vero. Per la qual cosa sgridali con rigore, affinchè siano sani nella fede, | 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, |
| 14 Non dando retta alle favole giudaiche, e alle tradizioni d'uomini, che hanno in avversione la verità. | 14 instead of giving heed to Jewish myths or to commands of men who reject the truth. |
| 15 Tutto è puro pe' puri: per gli impuri poi, ed infedeli niente è puro, ma è immonda la mente, e la coscienza di essi. | 15 To the pure all things are pure, but to the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds and consciences are corrupted. |
| 16 Professano di conoscer Dio, e lo rinnegano co' fatti: essendo abbominevoli, e miscredenti, e inetti a qualunque buona opera. | 16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their deeds; they are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good deed. |
