1 Passando per Amfipoli, e per Apollonia, arrivarono a Tessalonica, dove era la Sinagoga de' Giudei.	1 And when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.
2 E Paolo secondo il suo solito andò da loro, e per tre sabati disputò con essi sopra le scritture,	2 And Paul, according to his custom, went in unto them; and for three sabbath days he reasoned with them out of the scriptures:
3 Facendo aperto, e dimostrando, come il Cristo dovea patire, e risuscitare da morte: e come questo è Gesù Cristo, cui (diceva) io annunzio a voi.	3 Declaring and insinuating that the Christ was to suffer, and to rise again from the dead; and that this is Jesus Christ, whom I preach to you.
4 E alcuni di essi credettero, e si unirono con Paolo, e Sila, come pure una gran moltitudine di proseliti, e di Gentili, e non poche matrone primarie.	4 And some of them believed, and were associated to Paul and Silas; and of those that served God, and of the Gentiles a great multitude, and of noble women not a few.
5 Ma i Giudei, mossi da zelo, prendendo seco alcuni cattivi uomini del volgo, e fatta gente, misero la città in tumulto: e attorniata la casa di Giasone cercavano di tirarli davanti al popolo.	5 But the Jews, moved with envy, and taking unto them some wicked men of the vulgar sort, and making a tumult, set the city in an uproar; and besetting Jason's house, sought to bring them out unto the people.
6 E non avendoli trovali, strascinaron Giasone, e alcuni fratelli ai capi della città, gridando: Que' che mettono sottosopra la terra, sono venuti anche qua,	6 And not finding them, they drew Jason and certain brethren to the rulers of the city, crying: They that set the city in an uproar, are come hither also;
7 A' quali ha dato, ricetto Giasone. E tutti costoro fanno contro gli editti di Cesare, dicendo esservi un altro Re, Gesù.	7 Whom Jason hath received; and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.
8 E commosser la moltitudine, e i magistrati, che udivano tali cose.	8 And they stirred up the people, and the rulers of the city hearing these things,
9 Ma fatto dare mallevadore a Giasone, e agli altri gli rimandarono.	9 And having taken satisfaction of Jason and of the rest, they let them go.
10 I fratelli però immediatamente la notte avviarono Paolo, e Sila a Berea. I quali subito arrivati andarono alla sinagoga de' Giudei.	10 But the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea. Who, when they were come thither, went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 Questi erano più generosi di quelli, che erano in Tessalonica, e ricevettero la parola con tutta avidità, esaminando ogni dì nelle scritture, se le cose stesser cosi.	11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, who received the word with all eagerness, daily searching the scriptures, whether these things were so.
12 E molti di loro credettero, e delle nobili donne Gentili, e degli uomini non pochi.	12 And many indeed of them believed, and of honourable women that were Gentiles, and of men not a few.
13 Ma come ebber inteso i Giudei in Tessalonica, che anche in Berea era stata predicata da Paolo la parola di Dio, vi si portarono a incitare, e muovere a tumulto la moltitudine.	13 And when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was also preached by Paul at Berea, they came thither also, stirring up and troubling the multitude.
14 E subito allora i fratelli mandaron via Paolo, perché andasse fino al mare: e si restaron ivi Sila, e Timoteo.	14 And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul, to go unto the sea; but Silas and Timothy remained there.
15 Quelli poi, che accompagnavano Paolo, lo condusser fino ad Atene, e avuto ordine da lui per Sila, e Timoteo che speditamente andasser a lui, si partirono.	15 And they that conducted Paul, brought him as far as Athens; and receiving a commandment from him to Silas and Timothy, that they should come to him with all speed, they departed.
16 E mentre Paolo gli attendeva in Atene, si affliggeva in lui il suo spirito, veggendo quella città abbandonata all'idolatria.	16 Now whilst Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred within him, seeing the city wholly given to idolatry.
17 Disputava egli pertanto nella Sinagoga con i Giudei, e co' proseliti, e nel foro ogni giorno con chi vi si incontrava.	17 He disputed, therefore, in the synagogue with the Jews, and with them that served God, and in the marketplace, every day with them that were there.
18 E alcuni filosofi Epicurei, e Stoici lo attaccavano, e alcuni dicevano: Che vuoi egli dire questo chiacchierone? Altri poi: E' pare, che sia annunziatore di nuovi dei: perché annunziava loro Gesù, e la risurrezione.	18 And certain philosophers of the Epicureans and of the Stoics disputed with him; and some said: What is it, that this word sower would say? But others: He seemeth to be a setter forth of new gods; because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.
19 E presolo lo condussero all'Areopago dicendo: Possiam noi sapere quel, che siasi questa nuova dottrina, di cui tu parli?	19 And taking him, they brought him to the Areopagus, saying: May we know what this new doctrine is, which thou speakest of?
20 Imperocché tu ci suoni alle orecchi; certe nuove cose: vorremmo adunque sapere quel, che ciò abbia da essere.	20 For thou bringest in certain new things to our ears. We would know therefore what these things mean.
21 (Or gli Ateniesi tutti, e i forestieri ospiti a niun altra cosa badavano, che a dire, o ascoltare qualche cosa di nuovo.)	21 (Now all the Athenians, and strangers that were there, employed themselves in nothing else, but either in telling or in hearing some new thing.)
22 E Paolo stando in piedi in mezza dell'Areopago, disse: Uomini Ateniesi, io vi veggo in tutte le cose quasi più che religiosi,	22 But Paul standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious.
23 Imperocché passando io, e considerando i vostri simulacri, ho trovato anche un'ara, sopra la quale era scritto: Al Dio ignoto. Quello adunque, cui voi adorate senza conoscerlo, io annunzio a voi.	23 For passing by, and seeing your idols, I found an altar also, on which was written: To the unknown God. What therefore you worship, without knowing it, that I preach to you:
24 Dio, il quale fece il mondo, e le cose tutte, che in esso sono, essendo egli il Signore del cielo, e della terra, non abita in templi manofatti,	24 God, who made the world, and all things therein; he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 Né è servito per le mani degli uomini, quasi di alcuna cosa abbisogni egli, che da a tutti la vita, il respiro, e tutte le cose.	25 Neither is he served with men's hands, as though he needed any thing; seeing it is he who giveth to all life, and breath, and all things:
26 E fece da un solo la progenie tutta degli uomini, che abitasse tutta quanta, la estensione della terra, fissati avendone i determinati tempi, e i confini della loro abitazione,	26 And hath made of one, all mankind, to dwell upon the whole face of the earth, determining appointed times, and the limits of their habitation.
27 Perché cercassero Dio, se a sorte tasteggiando lo rinvenissero, quantunque ei non sia lungi da ciascheduno di noi.	27 That they should seek God, if happily they may feel after him or find him, although he be not far from every one of us:
28 Imperocché in lui viviamo, e ci muoviamo, e siamo: come anche taluni, de' vostri poeti han detto: imperocché di lui eziandio siamo progenie.	28 For in him we live, and move, and are; as some also of your own poets said: For we are also his offspring.
29 Essendo adunque noi progenie di Dio, non dobbiamo stimare, che l'esser divino sia simile all'oro, o all'argento, o alla pietra scolpita dall'arte, e dall'invenzione dell'uomo.	29 Being therefore the offspring of God, we must not suppose the divinity to be like unto gold, or silver, or stone, the graving of art, and device of man.
30 Ma sopra i tempi di una tal ignoranza avendo Dio chiusi gli occhi, intima adesso agli uomini, che tutti in ogni luogo facciano penitenza.	30 And God indeed having winked at the times of this ignorance, now declareth unto men, that all should every where do penance.
31 Conciossiachè ha fissato un giorno, in cui giudicherà con giustizia il mondo per mezzo di un uomo stabilito da lui, come ne ha fatto fede a tutti con risuscitarlo da morte.	31 Because he hath appointed a day wherein he will judge the world in equity, by the man whom he hath appointed; giving faith to all, by raising him up from the dead.
32 Sentita nominare la resurrezione de' morti, alcuni ne fecer beffe, altri poi dissero: Ti ascolteremo sopra di ciò un'altra volta.	32 And when they had heard of the resurrection of the dead, some indeed mocked, but others said: We will hear thee again concerning this matter.
33 Così Paolo si parti da loro.	33 So Paul went out from among them.
34 Alcuni però insinuatisi con lui credettero: tra' quali e Dionigi Areopagita, e una donna per nome Damaride, e altri con questi.	34 But certain men adhering to him, did believe; among whom was also Dionysius, the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
