| 1 Adessi ascolta, o Giacobbe mio servo, e tu, o Israele eletto mio: | 1 "But now hear, O Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen! |
| 2 Queste cose, dice il Signore, che ti ha fatto, e ti ha formato, tuo aiutatore dal seno della madre: non temere, Giacobbe mio servo, e tu, o rettissimo, cui io elessi; | 2 Thus says the LORD who made you, who formed you from the womb and will help you: Fear not, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen. |
| 3 Perocché io spanderò acque sopra la terra sitibonda, e fiumane sopra la terra arida: spanderò lo spirito mio sopra la tua discendenza, e la benedizione mia sopra la tua stirpe. | 3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your descendants, and my blessing on your offspring. |
| 4 E germineranno come i salci presso le acque correnti tralle erbette. | 4 They shall spring up like grass amid waters, like willows by flowing streams. |
| 5 Questi dirà: Del Signore son io: e quegli si darà il nome di Giacobbe; e l'altro scriverà sulla sua mano: Sono del Signore: e avrà nome simile a Israele. | 5 This one will say, 'I am the LORDs,' another will call himself by the name of Jacob, and another will write on his hand, 'The LORDs,' and surname himself by the name of Israel." |
| 6 Queste cose dice il Signore Re d'Israele, e il suo Redentore il Signor degli eserciti: Io il primo, ed io l'ultimo, e non è Dio fuori di me. | 6 Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: "I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god. |
| 7 Chi è simile a me? Si dichiari, e si spieghi, ed esponga a me l'ordine delle cose dal tempo, in cui fondai l'antica gente: e le cose imminenti, e le e future annunzino ad essi. | 7 Who is like me? Let him proclaim it, let him declare and set it forth before me. Who has announced from of old the things to come? Let them tell us what is yet to be. |
| 8 Non temete, non vi turbate: ab antico io le feci sapere a te, e le predissi: voi siete a me testimoni; v'ha egli Dio fuori di me, e faccitore, che siami ignoto? | 8 Fear not, nor be afraid; have I not told you from of old and declared it? And you are my witnesses! Is there a God besides me? There is no Rock; I know not any." |
| 9 I fabbricatori degl'idoli son tutti un niente, e queste cose, che più amano, non saran loro di alcun giovamento. Eglino per lor confusione son testimonj, come per lor vergogna quegli né veggono, né intendono. | 9 All who make idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not profit; their witnesses neither see nor know, that they may be put to shame. |
| 10 Chi ardi di formare un Dio, e gettò una statua buona a nulla? | 10 Who fashions a god or casts an image, that is profitable for nothing? |
| 11 Ecco, che tutti coloro, che a ciò hanno parte, saranno confusi: perocché questi sono artigiani uomini: si adunino tutti quanti, e si presentino, e tremeranno, e saran tutti svergognati. | 11 Behold, all his fellows shall be put to shame, and the craftsmen are but men; let them all assemble, let them stand forth, they shall be terrified, they shall be put to shame together. |
| 12 Il fabbro opera colla lima; col fuoco, e col martello forma l'idolo, lavorando a gran forza di braccia; e patirà la fame, e verrà meno, e spossato non anelerà a ber acqua. | 12 The ironsmith fashions it and works it over the coals; he shapes it with hammers, and forges it with his strong arm; he becomes hungry and his strength fails, he drinks no water and is faint. |
| 13 Lo scultore in legno stende la sua regola, formai l'idolo collo scalpello, lo dirizza a squadra, gli dà il suo contorno, e fa l'immagine di un uomo, com' uomo di bell'aspetto, che risegga in un tempio. | 13 The carpenter stretches a line, he marks it out with a pencil; he fashions it with planes, and marks it with a compass; he shapes it into the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house. |
| 14 Tronca i cedri, porta via il leccio, e la quercia invecchiata tralle piante della foresta; e pianta un pino, che si fa rigoglioso mediante la pioggia. | 14 He cuts down cedars; or he chooses a holm tree or an oak and lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest; he plants a cedar and the rain nourishes it. |
| 15 E gli uomini se ne servono per bruciare: egli ne prende, e si scalda; e col fuoco che ne fa, cuoce il pane: di quello poi, che rimane compone un Dio, e l'adora: ne fa un simolacro, e dinanzi a lui s'inginocchia. | 15 Then it becomes fuel for a man; he takes a part of it and warms himself, he kindles a fire and bakes bread; also he makes a god and worships it, he makes it a graven image and falls down before it. |
| 16 E una metà la consumò a far fuoco, e coll'altra metà fé cuocere la carne per mangiare; e si saziò, e si riscaldò, e disse: bene sta, mi son riscaldato, ho visto il fuoco. | 16 Half of it he burns in the fire; over the half he eats flesh, he roasts meat and is satisfied; also he warms himself and says, "Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire!" |
| 17 Di quello poi, che avanzò se ne fece egli un Dio, e una statua: si incurva dinanzi ad essa, e l'adora, e la prega, dicendo: Salvami, tu se' il mio Dio. | 17 And the rest of it he makes into a god, his idol; and falls down to it and worships it; he prays to it and says, "Deliver me, for thou art my god!" |
| 18 Sono ignoranti, sono senza intelletto: sono inverniciati gli occhi loro, affinchè non veggano, e col loro cuor non intendano. | 18 They know not, nor do they discern; for he has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their minds, so that they cannot understand. |
| 19 Non ripensano colla loro mente, né comprendono, né hanno senso per dire: Della metà ne feci fuoco, e su' suoi carboni cossi il pane; cossi le carni, e mangiai, e di quel, che resta ne farò un idolo? Mi prostrerò davanti ad un pezzo di legno? | 19 No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, "Half of it I burned in the fire, I also baked bread on its coals, I roasted flesh and have eaten; and shall I make the residue of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?" |
| 20 Una parte di esso è cenere; un cuore stolto lo adora, e non illumina sestesso con dire: Forse l'opera della mia destra è menzogna. | 20 He feeds on ashes; a deluded mind has led him astray, and he cannot deliver himself or say, "Is there not a lie in my right hand?" |
| 21 Ricorditi di tali cose, o Giacobbe, e tu Israele: perocché tu se' mio servo. Io ti formai: servo mio tu se', o Israele, non iscordarti di me. | 21 Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you, you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me. |
| 22 Ho sciolte qual nuvola le tue iniquità, e qual nebbia i tuoi peccati; ritorna a me, perch'io t'ho redento. | 22 I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud, and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you. |
| 23 Cantate laude, o cieli; perocché il Signore ha fatto misericordia: giubilate, estreme parti della terra, monti, selve, e piante tutte risuonate di canzoni di laude: perchè il Signore ha riscattato Giacobbe, e sarà esaltato in Israele. | 23 Sing, O heavens, for the LORD has done it; shout, O depths of the earth; break forth into singing, O mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and will be glorified in Israel. |
| 24 Queste cose dice il Signore redentor tuo, che ti formò nel sen della madre: Io sono il Signore, che fo tutte le cose; che solo distendo i cieli, e fondo la terra, e nissuno è con me. | 24 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who made all things, who stretched out the heavens alone, who spread out the earth-- Who was with me? -- |
| 25 Io, che vani rendo i presagi degl'indovini, e tolgo il senno agli astrologi: e fo cadere all'indietro i sapienti, e la loro scienza fo divenire stoltezza. | 25 who frustrates the omens of liars, and makes fools of diviners; who turns wise men back, and makes their knowledge foolish; |
| 26 Io son colui, che riduce ad effetto la parola del suo servo, e adempie gli oracoli de' suoi nunzj. Io, che dico a Gerusalemme: Tu sarai abitata; e alle città di Giuda: Voi sarete ristorate, e renderò vita a' vostri deserti. | 26 who confirms the word of his servant, and performs the counsel of his messengers; who says of Jerusalem, 'She shall be inhabited,' and of the cities of Judah, 'They shall be built, and I will raise up their ruins'; |
| 27 Io, che dico all'abisso: Asciugati, e io farò seccare le tue correnti. | 27 who says to the deep, 'Be dry, I will dry up your rivers'; |
| 28 Io, che dico a Ciro: Tu se' il mio pastore, tu adempirai tutti i miei voleri. Io, che dico a Gerusalemme: Tu sarai riedificata: e al tempio: Tu sarai rifabbricato. | 28 who says of Cyrus, 'He is my shepherd, and he shall fulfil all my purpose'; saying of Jerusalem, 'She shall be built,' and of the temple, 'Your foundation shall be laid.'" |
