| 1 Accostatevi, o nazioni, ed ascoltate: popoli ponete mente: oda la terra, e le cose tutte, che la riempiono, il mondo, e tutto quello, ch'egli produce; | 1 Draw near, O nations, to hear, and hearken, O peoples! Let the earth listen, and all that fills it; the world, and all that comes from it. |
| 2 Perocché l'ira del Signore sta sopra a tutte le genti, e il suo furore sopra tutta la lor moltitudine: la ucciderà, e daralla a morte. | 2 For the LORD is enraged against all the nations, and furious against all their host, he has doomed them, has given them over for slaughter. |
| 3 I loro uccisi saran gettati al campo, e si alzerà la puzza dai loro cadaveri: i monti coleranno del loro sangue. | 3 Their slain shall be cast out, and the stench of their corpses shall rise; the mountains shall flow with their blood. |
| 4 Verrà meno tutta la milizia de' cieli, e i cieli saranno ravvolti come un libro; e tutta la lor milizia cadrà, come cade la foglia della vite, e del fico. | 4 All the host of heaven shall rot away, and the skies roll up like a scroll. All their host shall fall, as leaves fall from the vine, like leaves falling from the fig tree. |
| 5 Perocché la mia spada si è insanguinata nel cielo: ecco che ella piomberà sompra l'Idumea, e sopra quel popolo, che sarà ucciso da me per giu sta vendetta. | 5 For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; behold, it descends for judgment upon Edom, upon the people I have doomed. |
| 6 La spada del Signore è tutta sangue, tutta unta di grasso, di sangue degli agnelli, e de' capri, del sangue de' grassi arieti: perocché la vittima del Signore è in Bosra, e un gran macello nella terra di Edom. | 6 The LORD has a sword; it is sated with blood, it is gorged with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom. |
| 7 E cadranno a terra con essi gli unicorni, e tori co' potenti: sarà inebriata di sangue la loro terra, e la loro campagna del grassume de' corpi: | 7 Wild oxen shall fall with them, and young steers with the mighty bulls. Their land shall be soaked with blood, and their soil made rich with fat. |
| 8 Perchè giorno è questo della vendetta del Signore, anno, in cui renderassi giustizia a Sionne. | 8 For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. |
| 9 E i suoi torrenti si cangeranno in pece, e la sua terra in solfo; e i suoi campi diverran pece ardente. | 9 And the streams of Edom shall be turned into pitch, and her soil into brimstone; her land shall become burning pitch. |
| 10 Né dì, né notte cesserà l'incendio, salirà in eterno il fumo di lei: sarà desolata per generazioni, e generazioni: non vi passerà, anima per tutti i secoli. | 10 Night and day it shall not be quenched; its smoke shall go up for ever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever. |
| 11 E ne saranno padroni l'onocretalo, e l'ericio: l'ibide, e il corvo vi avranno stanza: sarà tesa sopra di lei una corda, affine di annichilarla, e un livello per desolarla. | 11 But the hawk and the porcupine shall possess it, the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. He shall stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plummet of chaos over its nobles. |
| 12 Non vi saran più suoi nobili, ma ei chiederanno un re, e tutti i suoi principi saranno annientati. | 12 They shall name it No Kingdom There, and all its princes shall be nothing. |
| 13 E sulle case di lei nasceranno spine, ed ortiche, e roveti sulle sue rocche: ella sarà covile di dragoni, e luogo di pastura agli struzzoli. | 13 Thorns shall grow over its strongholds, nettles and thistles in its fortresses. It shall be the haunt of jackals, an abode for ostriches. |
| 14 E vi s'incontreranno demoni con onocentauri, e i satiri grideranno l'uno all'altro: ivi s'accovaccerà la lamia, e vi riposerà. | 14 And wild beasts shall meet with hyenas, the satyr shall cry to his fellow; yea, there shall the night hag alight, and find for herself a resting place. |
| 15 Ivi ha sua tana l'ericio, e vi al leva i suoi parti, e dilatata all'intorno la tana li nutre all'ombra di lei: ivi i milvi si uniscono l'uno coll'altro. | 15 There shall the owl nest and lay and hatch and gather her young in her shadow; yea, there shall the kites be gathered, each one with her mate. |
| 16 Cercate diligentemente nel libro del Signore, e leggete: di queste cose una non mancherà, una non sarà senza l'altra: perocché quello, che esce dalla mia bocca, egli me lo ha dettato, e lo spirito di lui ha egli stesso riunite queste cose. | 16 Seek and read from the book of the LORD: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the LORD has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them. |
| 17 Ed egli è, che darà ad essi la lor porzione, la mano di lui dividerà ad essi l'Idumea con misura: ei la possederanno sempre in eterno, e per tutte le generazioni la abiteranno. | 17 He has cast the lot for them, his hand has portioned it out to them with the line; they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation they shall dwell in it. |
