John 11

1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.	1 Volt egy Lázár nevű beteg Betániában, Máriának és nővérének, Mártának a falujában.
2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)	2 Mária volt az, aki megkente az Urat kenettel, és lábát hajával törölgette. Az ő testvére, Lázár volt beteg.
3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.	3 A nővérek üzentek érte: »Uram, íme, akit szeretsz, beteg.«
4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.	4 Amikor Jézus meghallotta ezt, így szólt: »Ez a betegség nem válik halálára, hanem Isten dicsőségére, hogy megdicsőüljön általa az Isten Fia.«
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.	5 Jézus szerette Mártát, meg a nővérét, és Lázárt.
6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.	6 Mikor tehát meghallotta, hogy beteg, két napig még azon a helyen maradt, ahol volt,
7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.	7 azután így szólt a tanítványokhoz: »Menjünk ismét Júdeába.«
8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?	8 A tanítványok azt mondták neki: »Rabbi, most akartak a zsidók megkövezni, és ismét odamégy?«
9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.	9 Jézus azt felelte: »Nem tizenkét órája van a nappalnak? Aki nappal jár, nem botlik meg, mert látja ennek a világnak a világosságát.
10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.	10 Aki pedig éjjel jár, megbotlik, mert nincs benne világosság.«
11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.	11 Ezt mondta, azután így szólt hozzájuk: »A barátunk, Lázár elaludt, de megyek, hogy felkeltsem őt az álomból.«
12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.	12 A tanítványok erre azt mondták: »Uram, ha alszik, meg fog gyógyulni.«
13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.	13 Jézus azonban a haláláról szólt, azok pedig azt gondolták, hogy az álom nyugalmáról beszél.
14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.	14 Ezért Jézus nyíltan megmondta nekik: »Lázár meghalt,
15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.	15 és örülök miattatok, hogy nem voltam ott, hogy majd higgyetek. De menjünk hozzá!«
16 Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.	16 Tamás, akit Ikernek neveznek, így szólt a többi tanítványhoz: »Menjünk mi is, és haljunk meg vele együtt!«
17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.	17 Amikor Jézus megérkezett, úgy találta, hogy Lázár már négy napja a sírban van.
18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:	18 Betánia pedig Jeruzsálem közelében volt, mintegy tizenöt stádiumnyira.
19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.	19 Ezért a zsidók közül sokan elmentek Mártához és Máriához, hogy vigasztalják őket testvérük miatt.
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.	20 Márta, amint meghallotta, hogy Jézus jön, eléje ment, Mária pedig otthon maradt.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.	21 Márta akkor így szólt Jézushoz: »Uram, ha itt lettél volna, nem halt volna meg a testvérem.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.	22 De most is tudom, hogy bármit is kérsz Istentől, Isten megadja neked.«
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.	23 Jézus azt felelte neki: »Testvéred fel fog támadni.«
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.	24 Márta így szólt hozzá: »Tudom, hogy feltámad a feltámadáskor, az utolsó napon.«
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:	25 Jézus azt mondta neki: »Én vagyok a föltámadás és az élet. Aki hisz bennem, még ha meg is halt, élni fog,
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?	26 és mindaz, aki él és hisz bennem, nem hal meg soha. Hiszed ezt?«
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.	27 Márta azt felelte neki: »Igen, Uram, hiszem, hogy te vagy a Krisztus, az Isten Fia, aki a világba jön.«
28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.	28 Miután ezt mondta, elment és hívta a nővérét, Máriát, és odasúgta neki: »A Mester itt van és hív téged.«
29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.	29 Amikor az meghallotta ezt, gyorsan fölkelt, és hozzá sietett.
30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.	30 Jézus ugyanis még nem ért a faluba, hanem azon a helyen volt, ahol Márta eléje ment.
31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.	31 A zsidók pedig, akik a házban vele voltak és őt vigasztalták, amikor látták, hogy Mária gyorsan fölkelt és kiment, utánamentek, mert azt gondolták: »A sírhoz megy, hogy ott sírjon.«
32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.	32 Amikor Mária odaért, ahol Jézus volt, és meglátta őt, lábaihoz borult, és azt mondta neki: »Uram, ha itt lettél volna, nem halt volna meg a testvérem.«
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,	33 Jézus pedig, látva, hogy sír, és hogy a vele érkező zsidók is sírnak, a lelke mélyéig megindult és megrendült.
34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.	34 Megkérdezte: »Hová tettétek őt?« Azt felelték neki: »Uram, jöjj és lásd!«
35 Jesus wept.	35 Jézus könnyezett.
36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!	36 Erre a zsidók azt mondták: »Íme, mennyire szerette őt!«
37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?	37 De voltak köztük, akik így szóltak: »Ő, aki megnyitotta a vak szemeit, nem tehette volna meg, hogy ez meg ne haljon?«
38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.	38 Jézus, lelkében még mindig megindulva a sírhoz ment. Egy barlang volt az, és kővel volt befedve.
39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.	39 Jézus így szólt: »Vegyétek el a követ!« Márta, a megholt nővére azt mondta neki: »Uram, már szaga van, hiszen negyednapos!«
40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?	40 Jézus azt felelte neki: »Nem azt mondtam neked, hogy ha hiszel, meglátod Isten dicsőségét?«
41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.	41 A követ tehát elvették. Jézus pedig fölemelte szemeit, és így szólt: »Atyám, hálát adok neked, hogy meghallgattál.
42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.	42 Én ugyan tudtam, hogy mindenkor meghallgatsz, csak a körülálló népért mondtam, hogy higgyék, hogy te küldtél engem.«
43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.	43 Miután ezeket mondta, hangosan ezt kiáltotta: »Lázár, jöjj ki!«
44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.	44 S az, aki halott volt, kijött. A lába és a keze pólyával volt körülkötve, és az arcát kendő födte. Jézus azt mondta nekik: »Oldozzátok ki, és hagyjátok elmenni!«
45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.	45 Sokan a zsidók közül, akik Máriához és Mártához jöttek, és látták, amit tett, hittek benne.
46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.	46 De néhányan közülük elmentek a farizeusokhoz, és elmondták nekik, hogy Jézus miket cselekedett.
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.	47 Erre a főpapok és a farizeusok összehívták a főtanácsot, és azt mondták: »Mit csináljunk? Ez az ember ugyanis sok csodajelet művel.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.	48 Ha hagyjuk ezt neki, mindnyájan hinni fognak benne. Akkor eljönnek a rómaiak, és elveszik tőlünk földünket és népünket.«
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,	49 Egyikük pedig, Kaifás, aki abban az esztendőben főpap volt, azt mondta nekik: »Ti nem tudtok semmit,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.	50 s arra sem gondoltok, hogy jobb nektek, ha egy ember hal meg a népért, mint ha az egész nemzet elvész!«
51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;	51 Ezt pedig nem magától mondta, hanem, főpap lévén abban az esztendőben, megjövendölte, hogy Jézus meg fog halni a nemzetért,
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.	52 és nemcsak a nemzetért, hanem hogy az Isten szétszórt gyermekeit egybegyűjtse.
53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.	53 Attól a naptól tehát elhatározták, hogy megölik őt.
54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.	54 Ezért Jézus már nem járt nyilvánosan a zsidók közt. Elment onnan a puszta melletti vidékre, egy Efraim nevű városba, és ott tartózkodott a tanítványaival együtt.
55 And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.	55 Közel volt a zsidók Pászkája, és vidékről sokan mentek föl Jeruzsálembe Húsvét előtt, hogy megszenteljék magukat.
56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?	56 Keresték Jézust, és a templomban azt mondogatták egymásnak: »Mit gondoltok? Vajon eljön-e az ünnepre?«
57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.	57 A főpapok és a farizeusok pedig parancsot adtak, hogy ha valaki megtudja, hol van, jelentse, és elfogják őt.
