1 Then stood up Elias the prophet as fire, and his word burned like a lamp.	1 Surgiu depois o profeta Elias, como um fogo. As suas palavras ardiam como um facho. Fez vir sobre eles a fome. Os que o irritavam pela sua inveja foram reduzidos a um pequeno número, porque não podiam suportar os preceitos do Senhor.
2 He brought a sore famine upon them, and by his zeal he diminished their number.
3 By the word of the Lord he shut up the heaven, and also three times brought down fire.	3 Com a palavra do Senhor fechou o céu, e fez cair fogo do mesmo céu por três vezes.
4 O Elias, how wast thou honoured in thy wondrous deeds! and who may glory like unto thee!	4 Quão glorioso te tornaste, Elias, pelos teus prodígios! Quem pode gloriar-se de ser como tu?
5 Who didst raise up a dead man from death, and his soul from the place of the dead, by the word of the most High:	5 Tu que fizeste sair um morto do sepulcro, arrancando-o à morte, em virtude da palavra do Senhor Deus;
6 Who broughtest kings to destruction, and honorable men from their bed:	6 que precipitaste os reis na desgraça, que desfizeste sem trabalho o seu poder, e, no meio da sua glória, os fizeste cair do leito (na sepultura); que ouviste sobre o Sinai o juízo do Senhor, e sobre o Horeb os decretos da sua vingança;
7 Who heardest the rebuke of the Lord in Sinai, and in Horeb the judgment of vengeance:
8 Who annointedst kings to take revenge, and prophets to succeed after him:	8 que sagraste reis para vingar crimes, e estabeleceste profetas para teus sucessores;
9 Who was taken up in a whirlwind of fire, and in a chariot of fiery horses:	9 que foste arrebatado (ao céu) num redemoinho de fogo, num carro tirado por cavalos ardentes;
10 Who wast ordained for reproofs in their times, to pacify the wrath of the Lord's judgment, before it brake forth into fury, and to turn the heart of the father unto the son, and to restore the tribes of Jacob.	10 tu, que foste designado nos decretos dos tempos para abrandar a ira do Senhor, para reconciliar o coração dos pais com os filhos, e para restabelecer as tribos de Jacob.
11 Blessed are they that saw thee, and slept in love; for we shall surely live.	11 Bem-aventurados os que te viram, e que foram honrados com a tua amizade!
12 Elias it was, who was covered with a whirlwind: and Eliseus was filled with his spirit: whilst he lived, he was not moved with the presence of any prince, neither could any bring him into subjection.	12 Quanto a nos, vivemos só durante esta vida, e depois da morte não teremos um nome como o teu.
13 No word could overcome him; and after his death his body prophesied.	13 Elias foi envolto num redemoinho, mas o seu espírito ficou em Eliseu, o qual não temeu príncipe algum em seus dias, e, em poder, não foi vencido por ninguém.
14 He did wonders in his life, and at his death were his works marvellous.	14 Nada houve que o pudesse dominar, e, ainda depois de morto, o seu corpo profetizou.
15 For all this the people repented not, neither departed they from their sins, till they were spoiled and carried out of their land, and were scattered through all the earth: yet there remained a small people, and a ruler in the house of David:	15 Em sua vida fez prodígios, e na morte operou maravilhas.
16 Of whom some did that which was pleasing to God, and some multiplied sins.	16 Com todas estas maravilhas o povo não fez penitência, não se afastou dos seus pecados, até que foi expulso da sua terra, e espalhado por todo o mundo.
17 Ezekias fortified his city, and brought in water into the midst thereof: he digged the hard rock with iron, and made wells for waters.	17 Ficou muito pouca gente (na Palestina), e (somente) um príncipe da casa de Davide.
18 In his time Sennacherib came up, and sent Rabsaces, and lifted up his hand against Sion, and boasted proudly.	18 Alguns deles fizeram o que era do agrado de Deus, outros cometeram muitos pecados.
19 Then trembled their hearts and hands, and they were in pain, as women in travail.	19 Ezequias fortificou a sua cidade, conduziu água para o centro dela, abriu com ferro um rochedo, e fez reservatórios para água.
20 But they called upon the Lord which is merciful, and stretched out their hands toward him: and immediately the Holy One heard them out of heaven, and delivered them by the ministry of Esay.	20 Durante o seu reinado veio Senaquerib. que enviou Rabsaces, o qual levantou a sua mão contra eles. estendeu a sua mão contra Sião, ensoberbecendo-se com o seu poder.
21 He smote the host of the Assyrians, and his angel destroyed them.	21 Então (os Israelitas) ficaram sobressaltados nos seus corações e nas suas mãos sentiram dores como as mulheres que estão de parto.
22 For Ezekias had done the thing that pleased the Lord, and was strong in the ways of David his father, as Esay the prophet, who was great and faithful in his vision, had commanded him.	22 Invocaram o Senhor misericordioso, levantando ao céu as suas mãos estendidas, e o Santo, o Senhor Deus, ouviu logo a sua voz.
23 In his time the sun went backward, and he lengthened the king's life.	23 Não mais se lembrou dos seus pecados, não os entregou aos seus inimigos, mas purificou-os por mão do santo profeta Isaías.
24 He saw by an excellent spirit what should come to pass at the last, and he comforted them that mourned in Sion.	24 Dissipou o Acampamento dos Assírios, e o anjo do Senhor os exterminou. Porque Ezequias fez o que era do agrado de Deus, andou com fortaleza pelo caminho de Davide seu Pai, como lhe tinha recomendado Isaías, profeta grande e fiel diante de Deus.
25 He shewed what should come to pass for ever, and secret things or ever they came.
