Proverbs 18

1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.	1 O que quer separar-se do seu amigo busca ocasiões (para isso); será coberto de opróbrio em todo o tempo. O insensato não gosta das palavras de prudência, mas sòmente de manifestar os seus pensamentos.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.	3 O ímpio, depois de ter caído no abismo dos pecados, tudo despreza; porém a ignomínia e o opróbrio o vão seguindo.
4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.	4 As palavras que saem da boca do homem são como uma água profunda; a fonte da sabedoria é como a corrente que trasborda. Não é bom ter considerações com a pessoa do ímpio, para prejudicar o justo julgamento.
5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.	6 Os lábios do insensato metem-se em disputas, e a sua boca provoca contendas.
7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.	7 A boca do insensato é a sua ruína, os seus lábios são um laço para a sua alma.
8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.	8 As palavras do intriguista são como iguarias apetitosas, que penetram até ao íntimo das entranhas.
9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.	9 O negligente no seu trabalho é irmão do dissipador.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.	10 O nome do Senhor é uma torre fortíssima; aí se acolhe o justo e encontra um refúgio seguro.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.	11 A riqueza do rico é a sua cidade forte: na sua imaginação é uma alta muralha.
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.	12 O coração do homem exalta-se antes da sua queda, mas a humildade precede a glória.
13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.	13 Aquele que responde antes de ouvir, mostra ser um insensato e digno de confusão.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?	14 O espirito do homem sustenta-o nos seus sofrimentos; mas quem poderá levantar um espírito abatido?
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.	15 O coração prudente possuirá a ciência; e o ouvido dos sábios busca a doutrina.
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.	16 Os presentes que um homem dá, abrem-lhe um dilatado caminho,e dão-lhe lugar diante dos grandes.
17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.	17 Parece ter razão o que expõe primeiro a sua causa; vem depois a parte adversa, e então se examina a fundo a questão.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.	18 A sorte apazígua as contendas, e decide entre os próprios poderosos.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.	19 O irmão, que é ajudado por seu irmão, é como uma cidade forte, e as suas decisões são como os ferrolhos das cidades.
20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.	20 Do fruto da boca do homem se encherá o seu ventre, e o produto dos seus lábios o saciará.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.	21 A morte e a vida estão em poder da língua; conforme o uso que dela fizeres assim comerás dos seus frutos.
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.	22 Aquele que achou a uma mulher boa achou um tesouro, recebeu do Senhor um grande favor.
23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.	23 O pobre fala suplicando, e o rico responde com aspereza.
24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.	24 Há amigos (que servem) só para fazer companhia, mas também os há mais dedicados que um irmão.
