| 1 E COME egli usciva del tempio, uno de’ suoi discepoli gli disse: Maestro, vedi quali pietre, e quali edifici! | 1 And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!" |
| 2 E Gesù, rispondendo, gli disse: Vedi tu questi grandi edifici? ei non sarà lasciata pietra sopra pietra, che non sia diroccata. | 2 And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down." |
| 3 Poi, sedendo egli sopra il monte degli Ulivi, di rincontro al tempio, Pietro, e Giacomo, e Giovanni, e Andrea lo domandarono in disparte, dicendo: | 3 And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, |
| 4 Dicci, quando avverranno queste cose? e qual sarà il segno del tempo, nel quale tutte queste cose avranno fine? | 4 "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign when these things are all to be accomplished?" |
| 5 E Gesù, rispondendo loro, prese a dire: Guardate che nessun vi seduca. | 5 And Jesus began to say to them, "Take heed that no one leads you astray. |
| 6 Perciocchè molti verranno sotto il mio nome, dicendo: Io son desso; e ne sedurranno molti. | 6 Many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he!' and they will lead many astray. |
| 7 Ora, quando udirete guerre, e romori di guerre, non vi turbate; perciocchè conviene che queste cose avvengano; ma non sarà ancora la fine. | 7 And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is not yet. |
| 8 Perciocchè una gente si leverà contro all’altra, ed un regno contro all’altro; e vi saranno tremoti in ogni luogo, e fami, e turbamenti. | 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will be famines; this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs. |
| 9 Queste cose saranno solo principii di dolori; or prendete guardia a voi stessi; perciocchè sarete messi in man de’ concistori, e sarete battuti nelle raunanze; e sarete fatti comparire davanti a’ rettori, ed ai re, per cagion mia, in testimonianza a loro. | 9 "But take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them. |
| 10 E conviene che prima l’evangelo sia predicato fra tutte le genti. | 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. |
| 11 Ora, quando vi meneranno, per mettervi nelle lor mani, non istate innanzi in sollecitudine di ciò che avrete a dire, e non lo premeditate; anzi, dite ciò che vi sarà dato in quello stante; perciocchè non siete voi que’ che parlate, anzi lo Spirito Santo. | 11 And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. |
| 12 Ora il fratello darà il fratello alla morte, e il padre il figliuolo; e i figliuoli si leveranno contro a’ padri e le madri, e li faranno morire. | 12 And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; |
| 13 E voi sarete odiati da tutti per lo mio nome; ma chi avrà sostenuto infino al fine sarà salvato | 13 and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. |
| 14 ORA, quando avrete, veduta l’abbominazion della desolazione, detta dal profeta Daniele, posta dove non si conviene chi legge pongavi mente, allora coloro che saranno nella Giudea fuggansene a’ monti. | 14 "But when you see the desolating sacrilege set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; |
| 15 E chi sarà sopra il tetto della casa non iscenda in casa, e non vi entri, per toglier cosa alcuna di casa sua. | 15 let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything away; |
| 16 E chi sarà per la campagna non torni addietro, per toglier la sua veste. | 16 and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle. |
| 17 Or guai alle gravide, ed a quelle che latteranno in que’ dì! | 17 And alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck in those days! |
| 18 E pregate che la vostra fuga non sia di verno. | 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter. |
| 19 Perciocchè in que’ giorni vi sarà afflizione tale, qual non fu giammai, dal principio della creazione delle cose che Iddio ha create, infino ad ora; ed anche giammai non sarà. | 19 For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be. |
| 20 E, se il Signore non avesse abbreviati que’ giorni, niuna carne scamperebbe; ma, per gli eletti, i quali egli ha eletti, il Signore ha abbreviati que’ giorni. | 20 And if the Lord had not shortened the days, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. |
| 21 Ed allora, se alcuno vi dice: Ecco qui il Cristo; ovvero: Eccolo là; nol crediate. | 21 And then if any one says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it. |
| 22 Perciocchè falsi cristi, e falsi profeti sorgeranno, e faranno segni e miracoli, per sedurre, se fosse possibile, eziandio gli eletti. | 22 False Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. |
| 23 Ma voi, guardatevi; ecco, io vi ho predetta ogni cosa | 23 But take heed; I have told you all things beforehand. |
| 24 MA in que’ giorni, dopo quell’afflizione, il sole scurerà, e la luna non darà il suo splendore. | 24 "But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, |
| 25 E le stelle del cielo caderanno, e le potenze che son ne’ cieli saranno scrollate. | 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. |
| 26 Ed allora gli uomini vedranno il Figliuol dell’uomo venir nelle nuvole, con gran potenza, e gloria. | 26 And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory. |
| 27 Ed egli allora manderà i suoi angeli, e raccoglierà i suoi eletti da’ quattro venti, dall’estremo termine della terra, infino all’estremo termine del cielo | 27 And then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. |
| 28 Or imparate dal fico questa similitudine: Quando già i suoi rami son divenuti teneri, e le sue frondi germogliano, voi conoscete che la state è vicina. | 28 "From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. |
| 29 Così ancora voi, quando vedrete avvenir queste cose, sappiate ch’egli è vicino, in su la porta. | 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. |
| 30 Io vi dico in verità, che questa età non passerà, che prima tutte queste cose non sieno avvenute. | 30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place. |
| 31 Il cielo e la terra passeranno, ma le mie parole non passeranno. | 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. |
| 32 MA, quant’è a quel giorno, ed a quell’ora, niuno li sa, non pur gli angeli che son nel cielo, nè il Figliuolo, ma solo il Padre. | 32 "But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.33 Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time will come. |
| 33 Prendete guardia; vegliate, ed orate; perciocchè voi non sapete quando sarà quel tempo. | 33 . |
| 34 Come se un uomo, andando in viaggio, lasciasse la sua casa, e desse sopra essa podestà a’ suoi servitori, ed a ciascuno l’opera sua, e comandasse al portinaio che vegliasse. | 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. |
| 35 Vegliate adunque, perciocchè voi non sapete quando il padron di casa verrà; la sera, o alla mezza notte, o al cantar del gallo, o la mattina. | 35 Watch therefore--for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning-- |
| 36 Che talora, venendo egli di subito improvviso, non vi trovi dormendo. | 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. |
| 37 Ora, ciò che dico a voi, lo dico a tutti: Vegliate | 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Watch." |
