1 Jésus était un jour quelque part en train de prier. Quand il eut fini, un de ses disciples lui dit: "Seigneur, apprends-nous à prier comme Jean-Baptiste a fait avec ses disciples.”	1 And it happened that, while he was in a certain place praying, when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
2 Il leur dit: "Quand vous priez, dites: Père, que ton Nom soit sanctifié, que ton règne vienne.	2 And he said to them: “When you are praying, say: Father, may your name be kept holy. May your kingdom come.
3 Donne-nous chaque jour le pain qu’il nous faut;	3 Give us this day our daily bread.
4 pardonne-nous nos péchés car nous aussi nous pardonnons à celui qui nous doit, et ne nous laisse pas tomber dans la tentation.	4 And forgive us our sins, since we also forgive all who are indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.”
5 Il leur dit encore: "Imaginez ceci: l’un d’entre vous va trouver son ami au milieu de la nuit pour lui dire: ‘Ami, prête-moi trois pains!	5 And he said to them: “Which of you will have a friend and will go to him in the middle of the night, and will say to him: ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,
6 Un ami qui voyage vient de m’arriver, et je n’ai rien à lui offrir.’	6 because a friend of mine has arrived from a journey to me, and I do not have anything to set before him.’
7 L’autre lui répond de l’intérieur: ‘Laisse-moi tranquille, la porte est maintenant bloquée et nous sommes au lit avec les enfants. Je ne peux pas me lever pour te les donner.’	7 And from within, he would answer by saying: ‘Do not disturb me. The door is closed now, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up and give it to you.’
8 “Je vous le dis: même si celui qui est au lit ne se lève pas pour vous le donner parce que vous êtes un ami, à force d’insister, vous l’obligerez à se lever et à vous donner tout ce dont vous avez besoin.	8 Yet if he will persevere in knocking, I tell you that, even though he would not get up and give it to him because he is a friend, yet due to his continued insistence, he will get up and give him whatever he needs.
9 “Et je vous dis: Demandez et l’on vous donnera, cherchez et vous trouverez, frappez à la porte et l’on vous ouvrira.	9 And so I say to you: Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and you shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you.
10 Car quiconque demande reçoit, celui qui cherche trouve, et l’on ouvre à celui qui frappe.	10 For everyone who asks, receives. And whoever seeks, finds. And whoever knocks, it shall be opened to him.
11 “Quel père parmi vous, si son fils demande un poisson, lui donnera un serpent à la place du poisson?	11 So then, who among you, if he asks his father for bread, he would give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he would give him a serpent, instead of a fish?
12 Et s’il demande un œuf, lui donnera-t-il un scorpion?	12 Or if he will ask for an egg, he would offer to him a scorpion?
13 Mauvais comme vous êtes, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants: combien plus alors le Père du ciel donnera-t-il un esprit saint à ceux qui le prient.”	13 Therefore, if you, being evil, know how to give good things to your sons, how much more will your Father give, from heaven, a spirit of goodness to those who ask him?”
14 Un autre jour Jésus chassait un démon: il s’agissait d’un muet. Le démon sorti, le muet se mit à parler et la foule resta émerveillée.	14 And he was casting out a demon, and the man was mute. But when he had cast out the demon, the mute man spoke, and so the crowds were amazed.
15 Il y eut quand même des gens pour dire: "Il chasse les démons avec l’aide de Béelzéboul, le chef des démons!”	15 But some of them said, “It is by Beelzebub, the leader of demons, that he casts out demons.”
16 D’autres, pour l’embarrasser, lui demandaient un signe qui vienne vraiment du Ciel.	16 And others, testing him, required a sign from heaven of him.
17 Mais Jésus savait ce qu’ils pensaient, et il leur dit: "Tout royaume qui se divise court à la ruine: les différents partis s’écroulent l’un après l’autre.	17 But when he perceived their thoughts, he said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself will become desolate, and house will fall upon house.
18 Si vous dites que je m’appuie sur Béelzéboul pour chasser les démons, Satan est divisé; donc son pouvoir ne durera pas.	18 So then, if Satan is also divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that it is by Beelzebub that I cast out demons.
19 “Et si c’est Béelzéboul qui m’aide à faire sortir les démons, qui donc aide les gens de chez vous quand ils les font sortir? Ce sont eux qui jugeront vos paroles.	19 But if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your own sons cast them out? Therefore, they shall be your judges.
20 Quand je fais sortir les démons, le doigt de Dieu est là: comprenez donc que le Royaume de Dieu est venu jusqu’à vous.	20 Moreover, if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then certainly the kingdom of God has overtaken you.
21 “Quand le Fort, bien armé, garde sa demeure, ses biens sont en sûreté.	21 When a strong armed man guards his entrance, the things that he possesses are at peace.
22 Mais voici qu’un autre, plus fort, arrive et triomphe de lui: il lui enlève les armes qui faisaient sa force, et distribue ses dépouilles.	22 But if a stronger one, overwhelming him, has defeated him, he will take away all his weapons, in which he trusted, and he will distribute his spoils.
23 “Qui n’est pas avec moi est contre moi, qui ne rassemble pas avec moi disperse.	23 Whoever is not with me, is against me. And whoever does not gather with me, scatters.
24 “Quand l’esprit impur est sorti de son homme, il va errant par des lieux arides à la recherche de quelque repos. Comme il n’en trouve pas, il se dit: ‘Retournons à ma maison d’où je suis sorti.’	24 When an unclean spirit has departed from a man, he walks through waterless places, seeking rest. And not finding any, he says: ‘I will return to my house, from which I departed.’
25 En arrivant il la trouve balayée et décorée.	25 And when he has arrived, he finds it swept clean and decorated.
26 Alors il va et ramène sept autres esprits plus méchants que lui; ils entrent et s’installent, et la nouvelle situation de cette personne est alors pire que la première.”	26 Then he goes, and he takes in seven other spirits with him, more wicked than himself, and they enter and live there. And so, the end of that man is made worse the beginning.”
27 Pendant que Jésus parlait ainsi, du milieu de la foule une femme éleva la voix et lui cria: "Heureuse celle qui t’a porté et qui t’a allaité!”	27 And it happened that, when he was saying these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you.”
28 Lui aussitôt répondit: "Heureux, dans ce cas, ceux qui entendent la parole de Dieu et qui la gardent!”	28 Then he said, “Yes, but moreover: blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”
29 Comme la foule devenait plus nombreuse, Jésus se mit à dire: "Cette génération est une génération mauvaise. Elle peut chercher un signe, on ne lui en donnera pas d’autre que le signe de Jonas.	29 Then, as the crowds were quickly gathering, he began to say: “This generation is a wicked generation: it seeks a sign. But no sign will be given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
30 Tout comme Jonas a été un signe pour les habitants de Ninive, le Fils de l’Homme aussi le sera pour cette génération.	30 For just as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of man be to this generation.
31 “La reine du Sud ressuscitera pour le Jugement avec les hommes de cette génération et elle les accusera; car elle-même est venue du bout du monde pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon, et ici il y a mieux que Salomon.	31 The queen of the South will rise up, at the judgment, with the men of this generation, and she will condemn them. For she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. And behold, more than Solomon is here.
32 Les hommes de Ninive ressusciteront pour le Jugement tout comme cette génération et ils l’accuseront; car eux se sont convertis à la prédication de Jonas, et ici il y a mieux que Jonas.	32 The men of Nineveh will rise up, at the judgment, with this generation, and they will condemn it. For at the preaching of Jonah, they repented. And behold, more than Jonah is here.
33 “Si quelqu’un allume une lampe, il ne la mettra pas dans un trou ou sous un meuble mais sur le lampadaire, pour que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière.	33 No one lights a candle and places it in hiding, nor under a bushel basket, but upon a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
34 Ta lampe, c’est ton œil. Si ton œil est transparent, toute ta personne sera lumineuse. Mais s’il est mauvais, tu seras toi aussi dans l’obscurité.	34 Your eye is the light of your body. If your eye is wholesome, your entire body will be filled with light. But if it is wicked, then even your body will be darkened.
35 Fais donc attention à ce que ta lumière intérieure ne devienne pas ténèbres.	35 Therefore, take care, lest the light that is within you become darkness.
36 Mais si ta personne tout entière devient lumineuse sans aucun recoin de ténèbres, elle rayonnera, tout comme lorsque la lampe jette un éclair sur toi.	36 So then, if your entire body becomes filled with light, not having any part in darkness, then it will be entirely light, and, like a shining lamp, it will illuminate you.”
37 Lorsque Jésus termina de parler, un Pharisien l’invita à prendre le repas chez lui; il entra et se mit à table.	37 And as he was speaking, a certain Pharisee asked him to eat with him. And going inside, he sat down to eat.
38 Le Pharisien alors s’étonna en voyant qu’il ne s’était pas purifié les mains avant le repas.	38 But the Pharisee began to say, thinking within himself: “Why might it be that he has not washed before eating?”
39 Mais le Seigneur lui dit: "Voilà bien les Pharisiens! Vous purifiez l’extérieur de la coupe et du plat, mais votre intérieur à vous n’est que soif d’argent et méchanceté!	39 And the Lord said to him: “You Pharisees today clean what is outside the cup and the plate, but what is inside of you is full of plunder and iniquity.
40 Insensés! Celui qui a fait l’extérieur, n’a-t-il pas fait également l’intérieur?	40 Fools! Did not he who made what is outside, indeed also make what is inside?
41 Mais pour vous il suffit de faire l’aumône et ensuite tout est pur!	41 Yet truly, give what is above as alms, and behold, all things are clean for you.
42 “Malheur à vous, Pharisiens! Vous payez la dîme jusque sur la menthe, les épices et toutes les infusions, mais vous passez à côté de la justice et de l’amour de Dieu! Là sont les œuvres à faire, sans pour autant oublier le reste.	42 But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you ignore judgment and the charity of God. But these things you ought to have done, without omitting the others.
43 “Malheur à vous, Pharisiens, qui aimez les premières places dans la synagogue et les salutations sur la place!	43 Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the first seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the marketplace.
44 Malheur à vous, vous êtes comme un tombeau qui n’est pas signalé; sans s’en apercevoir on a marché dessus!”	44 Woe to you! For you are like graves that are not noticeable, so that men walk over them without realizing it.”
45 Un maître de la Loi lui répliqua: "Maître, en parlant ainsi, tu nous insultes également!”	45 Then one of the experts in the law, in response, said to him, “Teacher, in saying these things, you bring an insult against us as well.”
46 Jésus répondit: "Malheur à vous aussi, maîtres de la Loi: vous faites porter aux gens des fardeaux impossibles, et vous, vous ne les touchez même pas du bout du doigt!	46 So he said: “And woe to you experts in the law! For you weigh men down with burdens which they are not able to bear, but you yourselves do not touch the weight with even one of your fingers.
47 “Malheur à vous qui élevez des monuments pour les prophètes que vos pères ont tués!	47 Woe to you, who build the tombs of the prophets, while it is your fathers who killed them!
48 Vous reconnaissez donc ce qu’ils ont fait, mais vous prenez leur suite: après qu’ils les ont éliminés, vous pouvez construire!”	48 Clearly, you are testifying that you consent to the actions of your fathers, because even though they killed them, you build their sepulchers.
49 La Sagesse de Dieu a dit de même: "Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, mais ils en tueront plusieurs et ils persécuteront les autres.	49 Because of this also, the wisdom of God said: I will send to them Prophets and Apostles, and some of these they will kill or persecute,
50 C’est pourquoi cette génération devra répondre de tout le sang des prophètes qui a été répandu depuis la création du monde,	50 so that the blood of all the Prophets, which has been shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation:
51 depuis le sang d’Abel jusqu’au sang de Zacharie, assassiné entre l’autel et le Temple. Oui, je vous le dis: cette génération devra répondre!”	51 from the blood of Abel, even to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. So I say to you: it will be required of this generation!
52 “Malheur à vous, maîtres de la Loi, car vous êtes partis avec la clé de la connaissance! Vous n’êtes pas entrés, et vous avez empêché les autres d’entrer!”	52 Woe to you, experts in the law! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves do not enter, and those who were entering, you would have prohibited.”
53 Quand Jésus sortit de là, les maîtres de la Loi et les Pharisiens commencèrent à lui en vouloir terriblement: ils essayaient de le faire parler sur des tas de choses,	53 Then, while he was saying these things to them, the Pharisees and the experts in the law began to insist strongly that he restrain his mouth about many things.
54 afin de le prendre au piège par ses propres paroles.	54 And waiting to ambush him, they sought something from his mouth that they might seize upon, in order to accuse him.
