1 La quatrième année du roi Darius, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Zacharie, le quatrième jour du neuvième mois (c’est le mois de Kisleu).	1 In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of Yahweh was addressed to Zechariah on the fourth day ofthe ninth month, the month of Chislev.
2 La ville de Béthel avait envoyé Saréser avec ses hommes pour supplier Yahvé	2 Bethel sent Sharezer with a deputation to entreat Yahweh's favour
3 et pour poser cette question aux prêtres de la Maison de Yahvé et aux prophètes: “Devons-nous pleurer au cinquième mois et faire des pénitences comme nous l’avons fait durant tant d’années?”	3 and to ask the priests in the Temple of Yahweh Sabaoth and the prophets, 'Ought I to go on mourningand fasting in the fifth month as I have been doing for so many years past?'
4 Alors cette parole de Yahvé Sabaot me fut adressée:	4 Then the word of Yahweh Sabaoth was addressed to me as fol ows,
5 “Tu diras ceci à tous les résidents et aux prêtres: Lorsque vous avez jeûné et pleuré au cinquième et au septième mois durant 70 ans, était-ce moi qui vous faisais jeûner?	5 'Say to al the people of the country and to the priests, "While you have been fasting and mourning inthe fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, have you real y been fasting for my sake?
6 C’est vous qui choisissiez de jeûner, ou de boire et de manger.	6 And when you were eating and drinking, were you not eating and drinking for your own sake?
7 “Sans doute avez-vous oublié les paroles que Yahvé faisait dire aux anciens prophètes, lorsque Jérusalem était habitée et prospère, ainsi que les villes d’alentour, lorsque le Négueb et le Bas-Pays étaient habités.	7 Do you not know the words which Yahweh proclaimed through the prophets in the past, whenJerusalem was inhabited and secure, as were her surrounding towns, and when the Negeb and the lowlandswere inhabited?" ' (
8 NO TEXT	8 The word of Yahweh was addressed to Zechariah as fol ows,
9 “Voici ce que disait Yahvé Sabaot: ‘Rendez la justice avec droiture, pratiquez la bonté et la miséricorde les uns envers les autres.	9 'Yahweh Sabaoth says this.) He said, "Apply the law fairly, and show faithful love and compassion towards one another.
10 N’opprimez ni la veuve, ni l’orphelin, ni l’étranger, ni le pauvre; ne cherchez pas à vous faire du mal les uns aux autres.’	10 Do not oppress the widow and the orphan, the foreigner and the poor, and do not secretly plan evilagainst one another."
11 “Mais vos pères ont refusé d’écouter, refusé d’obéir; ils ont fait la sourde oreille.	11 But they would not listen; they turned a rebel ious shoulder; they stopped their ears rather than hear;
12 Ils se sont fait un cœur de pierre pour ne pas écouter cet enseignement et ces paroles que Yahvé Sabaot proclamait par la voix des prophètes d’autrefois. Alors la colère de Yahvé Sabaot s’est déchaînée:	12 they made their hearts adamant rather than listen to the teaching and the words that Yahweh Sabaothhad sent -- by his spirit -- through the prophets in the past; and consequently the fury of Yahweh Sabaothovertook them.
13 ‘Puisque vous n’avez pas écouté quand Yahvé appelait, maintenant il ne vous écoutera pas quand vous l’appellerez - parole de Yahvé Sabaot.’	13 And so, since when he cal ed they would not listen, "I would not listen when they called", says YahwehSabaoth,
14 “Je les ai donc emportés comme fait l’ouragan et dispersés parmi les nations qu’ils ne connaissaient pas. Et derrière eux le pays est resté ravagé, inhabité: d’une terre fertile ils ont fait un désert.”	14 "but scattered them among al the nations unknown to them. Hence, after they had gone, the countrywas deserted, and no one came or went. They had turned a land of delights into a desert." '
