1 Paroles de Jérémie, fils de Hilkiyas. C’était l’un des prêtres habitant à Anatot, dans le territoire de Benjamin.	1 The words of Jeremiah, son of Hilkiah, of a priestly family in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin.
2 La parole de Yahvé lui fut adressée dès la treizième année du règne de Josias, fils d’Amon, roi de Juda.	2 The word of the LORD first came to him in the days of Josiah, son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign,
3 Cela continua au temps de Joïaqim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, et jusqu’à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, c’est-à-dire jusqu’à la déportation de Jérusalem, au cinquième mois.	3 and continued through the reign of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah, and until the downfall and exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, son of Josiah, king of Judah.
4 Une parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:	4 The word of the LORD came to me thus:
5 “Avant même de te former dans le ventre de ta mère, je t’ai connu; avant que tu sois sorti de son sein, je t’avais consacré, faisant de toi le prophète des nations.”	5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.
6 Je dis alors: “Ah, Seigneur Yahvé! Tu vois que je ne sais pas parler, je ne suis qu’un enfant.”	6 "Ah, Lord GOD!" I said, "I know not how to speak; I am too young."
7 Yahvé répondit: “Ne dis pas: Je ne suis qu’un enfant. Tu iras vers tous ceux à qui je t’enverrai, et tu leur diras tout ce que je t’ordonnerai.	7 But the LORD answered me, Say not, "I am too young." To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak.
8 Ne les crains pas, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer - parole de Yahvé.”	8 Have no fear before them, because I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.
9 Alors Yahvé étendit la main et me toucha la bouche, et il dit: “Vois, je place mes paroles dans ta bouche.	9 Then the LORD extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying, See, I place my words in your mouth!
10 Aujourd’hui même je te donne autorité sur les nations et les royaumes, pour déraciner et renverser, pour exterminer et détruire, pour bâtir et pour planter.”	10 This day I set you over nations and over kingdoms, To root up and to tear down, to destroy and to demolish, to build and to plant.
11 La parole de Dieu me fut adressée en ces termes: “Jérémie, que vois-tu?” Je répondis: “Je vois une branche d’arbre: c’est l’arbre-veilleur.”	11 The word of the LORD came to me with the question: What do you see, Jeremiah? "I see a branch of the watching-tree," I replied.
12 Alors Yahvé me dit: “Tu as bien vu, car je reste en éveil et je fais que mes paroles se réalisent.”	12 Then the LORD said to me: Well have you seen, for I am watching to fulfill my word.
13 Une seconde fois la parole de Yahvé vint à moi: “Que vois-tu?” Je répondis: “Je vois une marmite qui bouillonne et se déverse: cela vient du nord.”	13 A second time the word of the LORD came to me with the question: What do you see? "I see a boiling cauldron," I replied, "that appears from the north."
14 Alors Yahvé me dit: “C’est bien du nord que le malheur va se déverser sur tous les habitants du pays.	14 And from the north, said the LORD to me, evil will boil over upon all who dwell in the land.
15 Oui, j’appelle tous les royaumes du nord - parole de Yahvé. Tous viendront et établiront leurs quartiers à l’entrée des portes de Jérusalem, devant la ceinture de ses remparts, comme devant toutes les villes de Juda.	15 Lo, I am summoning all the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; Each king shall come and set up his throne at the gateways of Jerusalem, Opposite her walls all around and opposite all the cities of Judah.
16 “Je prononcerai mes jugements contre ce peuple qui m’a abandonné pour faire le mal: ils ont fait fumer l’encens devant d’autres dieux et se sont mis au service de dieux qu’ils ont fabriqués.	16 I will pronounce my sentence against them for all their wickedness in forsaking me, And in burning incense to strange gods and adoring their own handiwork.
17 “Aussi vas-tu te mettre à l’œuvre. Tu leur diras tout ce que je te commanderai; ne tremble pas devant eux, sinon je pourrais te faire trembler devant eux.	17 But do you gird your loins; stand up and tell them all that I command you. Be not crushed on their account, as though I would leave you crushed before them;
18 Sache qu’en ce jour je fais de toi une ville fortifiée, une colonne de fer et un rempart de bronze face au pays tout entier: face au roi de Juda, face à ses chefs et ses prêtres, face à tous les propriétaires.	18 For it is I this day who have made you a fortified city, A pillar of iron, a wall of brass, against the whole land: Against Judah's kings and princes, against its priests and people.
19 “Ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne pourront rien contre toi, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer - parole de Yahvé.”	19 They will fight against you, but not prevail over you, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.
