1 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Où est la lettre de divorce de votre mère? L’aurais-je renvoyée? À qui dois-je de l’argent, à qui vous aurais-je vendus? C’est à cause de vos fautes que vous avez été vendus, c’est pour vos crimes que j’ai renvoyé votre mère.	1 Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
2 Pourquoi n’ai-je trouvé personne lorsque je suis venu? Pourquoi n’a-t-on pas répondu quand j’ai appelé? Ma main serait-elle trop courte pour libérer, ne suis-je pas assez fort pour sauver? Il suffit que je menace et la mer se dessèche, la rivière disparaît dans la vallée et ses poissons restent à sec, ils meurent au soleil.	2 Wherfore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.
3 J’habille les cieux tout de noir et les oblige à se vêtir d’un sac.	3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.
4 Le Seigneur Yahvé m’a formé, pour que je parle comme son disciple, que je sache soutenir celui qui est épuisé. Dès le matin il réveille mon attention pour que j’écoute comme fait un disciple.	4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
5 Le Seigneur Yahvé m’a ouvert l’oreille et je ne m’y suis pas refusé, je n’ai pas reculé.	5 The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.
6 J’ai livré mon dos à ceux qui me frappaient, mes joues à ceux qui m’arrachaient la barbe, je n’ai pas dérobé mon visage aux insultes, aux crachats.	6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
7 Le Seigneur Yahvé est de mon côté, et les insultes ne me touchent pas; aussi je garde un visage de pierre, je sais que je n’aurai pas à rougir.	7 For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
8 Voici venir mon juge, qui veut s’en prendre à moi? Allez, comparaissons ensemble, si quelqu’un veut m’accuser, qu’il s’approche!	8 He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me.
9 Si le Seigneur Yahvé est avec moi, qui me condamnera? Regardez-les, voyez comme ils se défont: ils ne sont plus qu’un vêtement dévoré par les mites.	9 Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.
10 Si quelqu’un parmi vous craint Yahvé, qu’il écoute la voix de son serviteur; si quelqu’un marche dans les ténèbres, là où ne brille nulle lumière, qu’il mette sa confiance dans le Nom de Yahvé, qu’il s’appuie sur son Dieu.	10 Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
11 Mais vous tous qui allumez un feu, et qui faites autour un cercle de braises, allez donc aux flammes de votre feu, et brûlez avec vos bois embrasés: vous vous roulerez dans vos tourments et cela vous viendra de ma propre main.	11 Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.
