1 Salomon engagea 70 000 porteurs, 80 000 hommes pour tailler la pierre dans les collines et 3 600 pour les surveiller.	1 And Solomon allocated seventy thousand men to be porters and eighty thousand to quarry in the hillsand three thousand six hundred overseers for them.
2 Salomon envoya alors ce message à Hiram, roi de Tyr: “Fais pour moi comme pour mon père David lorsque tu lui as envoyé des cèdres pour construire son palais.	2 And Solomon sent this message to Huram king of Tyre, 'Do as you did for my father David when yousent him cedars for him to build himself a palace to live in.
3 À mon tour je vais construire une Maison pour le Nom de Yahvé mon Dieu; je la consacrerai, j’y ferai fumer devant lui l’encens parfumé, j’y aurai aussi les pains disposés en rangées à perpétuité; j’y offrirai des holocaustes le matin et le soir, durant les sabbats, les Nouvelles Lunes et les jours de fête en l’honneur de Yahvé notre Dieu, selon la loi fixée à jamais pour Israël.	3 You see, I am building a house for the name of Yahweh my God, to acknowledge his holiness so thatperfumed incense may be burnt before him, the loaves of permanent offering be perpetual y laid out and theburnt offerings be made morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, New Moons and solemn festivals of Yahwehour God, as prescribed to Israel for ever;
4 La maison que je vais construire sera vaste, car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux.	4 and the house which I am building must be large, for our God is greater than al gods;
5 Pourtant personne ne peut réellement bâtir un temple pour Dieu, car les cieux et les cieux des cieux ne peuvent le contenir: qui donc pourrait prétendre lui construire une Maison pour y faire fumer l’encens devant lui?	5 even so, who would not find it an impossible task to build a house for him, when the heavens and theheavens of the heavens cannot contain him? And who am I to build a house for him except to burn incensebefore him?
6 Aussi envoie-moi un homme habile à travailler l’or, l’argent, le bronze, le fer, la pourpre rouge, les étoffes de couleur et la pourpre violette; qu’il soit également doué pour la gravure. Il travaillera avec mes artisans que David, mon père, a rassemblés en Juda et à Jérusalem.	6 So now send me a man skil ed at working in gold, silver, bronze, iron, scarlet, crimson and violetmaterials, and who knows the art of engraving too; he is to work with my skil ed men in Judah and Jerusalem,whom my father David has provided.
7 Envoie-moi du Liban du bois de cèdre, du cyprès, du bois de santal, car je sais que tes serviteurs savent abattre des arbres du Liban; mes serviteurs travailleront avec les tiens.	7 Also send me cedar, juniper and algum trunks from the Lebanon, for I know that your servants knowthe art of fel ing timber in the Lebanon. And, my servants will work with your servants
8 Ils me prépareront du bois en quantité, puisque la maison que je désire construire doit être grande et magnifique.	8 in preparing a vast quantity of timber for me, since the house which I intend to build is to be of a size tomarvel at.
9 Je donnerai pour la nourriture de tes serviteurs, pour les bûcherons qui couperont les arbres, 20 000 mesures de blé, 20 000 mesures d’orge, 20 000 mesures de vin, 20 000 mesures d’huile.”	9 Furthermore, for the upkeep of the woodcutters whom you employ to cut the timber, I shal providetwenty thousand kor of wheat, twenty thousand kor of barley, twenty thousand bat of wine and twenty thousandbat of oil.'
10 Dans une lettre envoyée au roi Salomon, Hiram, roi de Tyr, répondit: “Si Yahvé t’a fait roi, c’est parce qu’il aime son peuple.	10 In a letter sent to King Solomon, Huram king of Tyre replied, 'Because Yahweh loves his people hehas made you their king!'
11 Béni soit Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, celui qui a fait le ciel et la terre! Il a donné au roi David un fils sage, rempli de bon sens et d’intelligence, qui va construire une Maison pour Yahvé et un palais royal.	11 Huram went on to say, 'Praised be Yahweh, God of Israel, who made heaven and earth and has givenKing David a wise son, endowed with discretion and discernment, to build a house for Yahweh and a palace inwhich to reign!-
12 Je t’envoie donc un habile artisan, intelligent: Houram-Abi,	12 I am now sending you a skil ed and intelligent man, Huram-Abi
13 sa mère est une fille de Dan et son père est de Tyr. Il est habile à travailler l’or, l’argent, le bronze, le fer, la pierre, le bois, la pourpre rouge et violette, le lin fin et les étoffes de couleur, habile aussi pour toute sorte de gravure et pour exécuter tout projet qu’on lui soumet. Il travaillera avec tes artisans et ceux de mon seigneur David, ton père.	13 the son of a Danite woman by a Tyrian father. He knows the arts of working in gold, silver, bronze,iron, stone, wood, scarlet, violet, fine linen and crimson materials, and is competent to carry out any kind ofengraving and to execute any design which may be entrusted to him, in col aboration with your skilled men andthose of my lord David, your father.
14 Aussi, que mon seigneur envoie dès maintenant à ses serviteurs le blé, l’orge, l’huile et le vin dont il a parlé.	14 'So now let my lord send his servants the wheat, barley, oil and wine as promised
15 De notre côté, nous allons abattre les arbres du Liban dont tu as besoin. Nous les enverrons par mer sur des radeaux jusqu’à Joppé; de là, tu les feras transporter à Jérusalem.”	15 and we wil fel all the wood you need from Lebanon, and bring it you in rafts by sea to Jaffa; and it wilbe your responsibility to transport it to Jerusalem.'
16 Salomon fit alors le compte de tous les étrangers qui vivaient sur la terre d’Israël, d’après le recensement que David son père avait fait; il en dénombra 153 600.	16 Solomon then took a census of al the aliens resident in Israel similar to the census which his fatherDavid had taken; it was found that there were a hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred.
17 Il en désigna 70 000 comme porteurs, 80 000 pour extraire les pierres dans la montagne et 3 600 comme surveillants pour faire travailler le peuple.	17 He impressed seventy thousand of them as porters, eighty thousand as quarrymen in the hil s andthree thousand six hundred as overseers to make sure the people worked.
