1 Lorsque David était déjà dans sa maison, il dit au prophète Nathan: “Voilà, je vis dans une maison de cèdre mais l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé demeure sous une tente de toile.”	1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.
2 Nathan dit à David: “Tout ce que tu as dans le cœur, fais-le, car Dieu est avec toi.”	2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.
3 Mais cette nuit même, Yahvé dit à Nathan:	3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
4 “Va dire à mon serviteur David cette parole de Yahvé: Ce n’est pas toi qui me construiras une Maison pour que j’y habite!	4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:
5 Je n’ai jamais habité un temple de tout le temps que j’ai conduit Israël jusqu’à aujourd’hui; mais je suis allé de tente en tente, d’un abri à l’autre.	5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
6 Durant tout mon voyage avec les Israélites, ai-je dit à un seul des juges d’Israël que j’avais désignés comme bergers de mon peuple: Pourquoi ne me construis-tu pas un temple en bois de cèdre?	6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?
7 “Tu vas transmettre à mon serviteur David cette parole de Yahvé Sabaot: Je t’ai pris derrière le troupeau pour être à la tête d’Israël, mon peuple.	7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
8 Je suis allé avec toi partout où tu es allé, et j’ai vaincu tous tes ennemis devant toi. Je rendrai ton nom aussi célèbre que le nom des plus grands sur terre.	8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
9 Je donnerai un lieu à mon peuple Israël; là je les fixerai, et là ils vivront. Ils ne seront plus jamais perturbés, plus jamais les méchants ne les opprimeront.	9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
10 Le temps est fini où j’établissais des juges sur mon peuple Israël; j’ai soumis tous tes ennemis et je t’ai annoncé que je te bâtirais une maison.	10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.
11 “Et quand tes jours seront finis, que tu devras mourir et être enterré avec tes ancêtres, je te donnerai un successeur sorti de toi, un de tes fils, et je grandirai son royaume.	11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12 Il me construira un temple et j’affermirai son trône pour toujours.	12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
13 Je serai un père pour lui et lui sera pour moi un fils. Je ne lui retirerai pas ma faveur comme j’ai fait pour celui qui régnait avant toi.	13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
14 Je lui donnerai la charge de ma maison et de mon royaume pour toujours, sa royauté sera ferme à jamais.”	14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.
15 Nathan raconta à David ces paroles et cette vision.	15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
16 Alors le roi David entra, s’assit devant Yahvé et dit: “Je ne suis pas digne de tout ce que tu as déjà fait pour moi, Yahvé Dieu, et ma famille non plus.	16 And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
17 Pourtant, ô Dieu, ce n’était pas encore assez à tes yeux. Tu me fais maintenant une promesse pour ma descendance qui va loin dans l’avenir. Tu m’as considéré comme un grand homme, ô Yahvé Dieu!	17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.
18 Que puis-je te dire de plus? Tu connais ton serviteur David.	18 What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.
19 Tout ce que tu as fait, Yahvé, tu l’as fait par bonté pour ton serviteur et pour manifester ta grandeur.	19 O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.
20 “Ô Yahvé! Nul n’est comme toi! Il n’y a pas de Dieu, excepté toi seul, dont nous ayons entendu les paroles.	20 O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
21 Y a-t-il un autre peuple sur terre comme ton peuple Israël? Y a-t-il une seule nation sur la terre que Dieu ait achetée pour en faire son peuple? Tu as rendu célèbre ton peuple. Tu as fait pour lui des choses grandes et terribles: tu as chassé les nations devant lui lorsque tu l’as racheté d’Égypte.	21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
22 “Tu as fait du peuple d’Israël ton propre peuple à jamais, et toi, Yahvé, tu es devenu son Dieu.	22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.
23 Maintenant, Yahvé, fais que dure la promesse que tu m’as faite au sujet de ma descendance, et agis comme tu l’as dit.	23 Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.
24 Que cette promesse tienne bon et que ton Nom soit exalté à jamais; que l’on puisse dire: “Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël, est un Dieu pour Israël”. Fais que ma descendance se tienne fermement devant toi pour toujours.	24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.
25 “ Ô mon Dieu! Tu as fait savoir à ton serviteur que tu lui construiras une maison; c’est pourquoi ton serviteur a l’audace de te faire cette demande.	25 For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.
26 Oui, Yahvé, c’est toi qui promets ce bonheur à ton serviteur, toi qui es vraiment Dieu!	26 And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
27 Qu’il te plaise alors de bénir la maison de ton serviteur, pour qu’elle reste à jamais devant toi. C’est toi, Yahvé, qui as béni, elle est bénie à jamais!”	27 Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.
