1 Le prophète Élisée appela l’un des frères prophètes, il lui dit: “Mets ta ceinture, emporte cette cruchette d’huile et pars pour Ramot en Galaad.	1 The prophet Elisha called one of the guild prophets and said to him: "Gird your loins, take this flask of oil with you, and go to Ramoth-gilead.
2 Une fois arrivé, tu chercheras Jéhu, fils de Yochafat, fils de Nimchi, tu t’approcheras de lui et tu le feras sortir du milieu de ses compagnons. Tu le conduiras dans une chambre à part,	2 When you get there, look for Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi. Enter and take him away from his companions into an inner chamber.
3 puis tu prendras la cruchette d’huile, tu la verseras sur sa tête, et tu diras: ‘Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je t’ai consacré comme roi d’Israël!’ Puis tu ouvriras la porte et tu t’enfuiras sans plus attendre.”	3 From the flask you have, pour oil on his head, and say, 'Thus says the LORD: I anoint you king over Israel.' Then open the door and flee without delay."
4 Le jeune homme, le jeune prophète, partit donc pour Ramot en Galaad.	4 The young man (the guild prophet) went to Ramoth-gilead.
5 Lorsqu’il arriva, les chefs de l’armée étaient assis ensemble; il dit: “Chef! J’ai un mot à te dire!” Jéhu répondit: “Auquel de nous tous?” Il lui dit: “À toi, chef!”	5 When he arrived, the commanders of the army were in session. "I have a message for you, commander," he said. "For which one of us?" asked Jehu. "For you, commander," he answered.
6 Jéhu se leva et entra dans la maison; alors le frère prophète versa l’huile sur sa tête et lui dit: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël: Je t’ai consacré comme roi sur le peuple de Yahvé, sur Israël.	6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the young man poured the oil on his head and said, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'I anoint you king over the people of the LORD, over Israel.
7 Tu frapperas la maison de ton maître Akab. Je veux faire payer à Jézabel le sang de mes serviteurs les prophètes et le sang de tous les serviteurs de Yahvé.	7 You shall destroy the house of Ahab your master; thus will I avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the other servants of the LORD shed by Jezebel,
8 “J’exterminerai toute la maison d’Akab: je retrancherai de la maison d’Akab tous les mâles, aussi bien l’esclave que celui qui est libre en Israël!	8 and by all the rest of the family of Ahab. I will cut off every male in Ahab's line, whether slave or freeman in Israel.
9 Je ferai pour la maison d’Akab ce que j’ai fait à la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, et à celle de Bacha, fils d’Ahiya!	9 I will deal with the house of Ahab as I dealt with the house of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and with the house of Baasha, son of Ahijah.
10 Les chiens dévoreront Jézabel dans le champ de Yizréel et personne ne l’enterrera!” Alors il ouvrit la porte et prit la fuite.	10 Dogs shall devour Jezebel at the confines of Jezreel, so that no one can bury her.'" Then he opened the door and fled.
11 Lorsque Jéhu revint vers les officiers de son maître, ils lui demandèrent: “Tout va bien? Pourquoi ce fou cherchait-il après toi?” Il leur répondit: “Vous connaissez déjà le bonhomme et son discours!”	11 When Jehu rejoined his master's servants, they asked him, "Is all well? Why did that madman come to you?" You know that kind of man and his talk, he replied.
12 Mais ils lui dirent: “Pas du tout. Dis-nous ce qui s’est passé!” Il leur répondit: “Il m’a dit ceci et cela, et il a ajouté: Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je t’ai consacré comme roi sur Israël.”	12 But they said, "Not at all! Come, tell us." So he told them what the young man had said to him, and finally, "Thus says the LORD: 'I anoint you king over Israel.'"
13 Alors, sans plus attendre, tous jetèrent leurs manteaux sous ses pieds, sur les gradins, puis ils sonnèrent de la trompette et dirent: “Jéhu est roi!”	13 At once each took his garment, spread it under Jehu on the bare steps, blew the trumpet, and cried out, "Jehu is king!"
14 Voici maintenant comment Jéhu, fils de Yochafat, fils de Nimchi, conspira contre Joram. Joram, avec tout Israël, défendait Ramot-en-Galaad contre Hazaël, roi d’Aram.	14 Thus Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, formed a conspiracy against Joram. Joram, with all Israel, had been besieging Ramoth-gilead against Hazael, king of Aram,
15 Mais le roi Joram était venu se faire soigner à Yizréel, car il avait été blessé par les Araméens lorsqu’il combattait contre Hazaël, roi d’Aram. Jéhu dit alors: “Si vous êtes d’accord, que personne ne s’échappe de la ville pour porter la nouvelle à Yizréel.”	15 but had returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle against Hazael, king of Aram. "If you are truly with me," Jehu said, "see that no one escapes from the city to report in Jezreel."
16 Jéhu monta sur son char et partit pour Yizréel. Joram était au lit et Okozias, roi de Juda, était venu lui rendre visite.	16 Then Jehu mounted his chariot and drove to Jezreel, where Joram lay ill and Ahaziah, king of Judah, had come to visit him.
17 Le guetteur qui se tenait sur la tour de Yizréel aperçut la troupe qui venait avec Jéhu; il dit alors: “Je vois une troupe.” Joram lui dit: “Prends un cavalier, envoie-le à leur rencontre et il leur demandera s’ils viennent en amis.”	17 The watchman standing on the tower in Jezreel saw the troop of Jehu coming and reported, "I see chariots." "Get a driver," Joram said, "and send him to meet them and to ask whether all is well."
18 Le cavalier partit donc à leur rencontre et dit: “Voici ce que dit le roi: Venez-vous en amis?” Jéhu répondit: “Qu’est-ce que cela peut te faire? Fais demi-tour et suis-moi.” Le guetteur avertit le roi: “Le messager les a rejoints mais il ne revient pas.”	18 So a driver went out to meet him and said, "The king asks whether all is well." "What does it matter to you how things are?" Jehu said. "Get behind me." The watchman reported to the king, "The messenger has reached them, but is not returning."
19 On envoya un second cavalier qui rejoignit la troupe; il leur dit: “Voici ce que dit le roi: Venez-vous en amis?” Jéhu répondit: “Qu’est-ce que cela peut te faire? Fais demi-tour et suis-moi.”	19 Joram sent a second driver, who went to them and said, "The king asks whether all is well." "What does it matter to you how things are?" Jehu replied. "Get behind me."
20 Le guetteur avertit le roi en disant: “Il les a rejoints et il ne revient pas. Mais la façon de conduire est celle de Jéhu, fils de Nimchi: il conduit comme un fou.”	20 The watchman reported, "The messenger has reached them, but is not returning. The driving is like that of Jehu, son of Nimshi, in its fury."
21 Alors Joram dit: “Attelle!” Et l’on attela son char. Joram, roi d’Israël et Okozias, roi de Juda sortirent chacun sur son char pour aller à la rencontre de Jéhu; ils le rencontrèrent dans le champ de Nabot de Yizréel.	21 "Prepare my chariot," said Joram. When they had done so, Joram, king of Israel, and Ahaziah, king of Judah, set out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They reached him near the field of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 Dès que Joram aperçut Jéhu, il lui dit: “Viens-tu en ami, Jéhu?” Mais celui-ci répondit: “Quelle paix peut-il y avoir tant que durent les prostitutions de ta mère Jézabel et ses nombreuses sorcelleries?”	22 When Joram recognized Jehu, he asked, "Is all well, Jehu?" "How can all be well," Jehu replied, "as long as the many fornications and witchcrafts of your mother Jezebel continue?"
23 Joram fit demi-tour et prit la fuite, il cria à Okozias: “Nous sommes trahis, Okozias!”	23 Joram reined about and fled, crying to Ahaziah, "Treason, Ahaziah!"
24 Jéhu avait bandé son arc, il frappa Joram entre les épaules et la flèche traversa le cœur: le roi s’écroula dans son char.	24 But Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders, so that the arrow went through his heart and he collapsed in his chariot.
25 Jéhu dit alors à son écuyer Bidkar: “Emporte-le et jette-le dans le champ de Nabot de Yizréel! Rappelle-toi cette parole que Yahvé a prononcée contre lui, lorsque toi et moi nous chevauchions derrière son père Akab:	25 Then Jehu said to his adjutant Bidkar, "Take him and throw him into the field of Naboth the Jezreelite. For I remember that when we were driving teams behind his father Ahab, the LORD delivered this oracle against him:
26 J’ai vu hier le sang de Nabot et le sang de ses fils - oracle de Yahvé - je te le ferai payer dans ce champ. Emporte-le donc et jette-le dans le champ, comme a dit Yahvé.”	26 'As surely as I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,' says the LORD, 'I will repay you for it in that very plot of ground, says the LORD.' So now take him into this plot of ground, in keeping with the word of the LORD."
27 En voyant tout cela, Okozias roi de Juda avait pris la fuite par le chemin de Beth-Ha-Gan. Jéhu le poursuivit: “Tuez-le lui aussi!” criait-il. On le frappa sur son char à la montée de Gour, près de Yibléam; il se réfugia à Méguiddo et c’est là qu’il mourut.	27 Seeing what was happening, Ahaziah, king of Judah, fled toward Beth-haggan. Jehu pursued him, shouting, "Kill him too!" And they pierced him as he rode through the pass of Gur near Ibleam. He continued his flight as far as Megiddo and died there.
28 Ses serviteurs le ramenèrent en char à Jérusalem et le déposèrent dans son tombeau, dans la Cité de David.	28 His servants brought him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in the tomb of his ancestors in the City of David.
29 Okozias était devenu roi de Juda dans la onzième année de Joram, fils d’Akab.	29 Ahaziah had become king of Judah in the eleventh year of Joram, son of Ahab.
30 Jéhu entra dans Yizréel: Jézabel savait déjà la nouvelle. Elle se farda les yeux, arrangea sa coiffure et se mit à la fenêtre.	30 When Jezebel learned that Jehu had arrived in Jezreel, she shadowed her eyes, adorned her hair, and looked down from her window.
31 Comme Jéhu passait la porte de la ville, elle lui dit: “Tout va bien, Zimri, assassin de son maître?”	31 As Jehu came through the gate, she cried out, "Is all well, Zimri, murderer of your master?"
32 Il leva la tête vers la fenêtre et cria: “Qui est avec moi?” Deux ou trois serviteurs se penchèrent aussitôt.	32 Jehu looked up to the window and shouted, "Who is on my side? Anyone?" At this, two or three eunuchs looked down toward him.
33 Il leur dit: “Jetez-la par la fenêtre!” Et ils la jetèrent. Son sang gicla sur le mur et sur les chevaux qui la piétinèrent.	33 "Throw her down," he ordered. They threw her down, and some of her blood spurted against the wall and against the horses. Jehu rode in over her body
34 Jéhu rentra ensuite, il mangea et il but; après quoi il dit: “Occupez-vous de cette maudite et mettez-la au tombeau, car c’est une fille de roi.”	34 and, after eating and drinking, he said: "Attend to that accursed woman and bury her; after all, she was a king's daughter."
35 Les serviteurs allèrent pour la déposer dans le tombeau, mais ils ne retrouvèrent que le crâne, les pieds et les mains.	35 But when they went to bury her, they found nothing of her but the skull, the feet, and the hands.
36 Ils revinrent le dire à Jéhu, qui déclara: “C’est la parole de Yahvé qui vient de s’accomplir; il avait fait dire par son serviteur Élie, de Tichbé: Les chiens mangeront le corps de Jézabel dans le champ de Yizréel.	36 They returned to Jehu, and when they told him, he said, "This is the sentence which the LORD pronounced through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: 'In the confines of Jezreel dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel.
37 Le cadavre de Jézabel sera comme du fumier répandu et l’on ne pourra même plus dire: C’est Jézabel.”	37 The corpse of Jezebel shall be like dung in the field in the confines of Jezreel, so that no one can say: This was Jezebel.'"
