1 Joas devint roi à l’âge de 7 ans:	1 Joash was seven years old when he became king.
2 c’était la septième année du règne de Jéhu. Il régna 40 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère s’appelait Sibya, elle était de Bersabée.	2 Joash began to reign in the seventh year of Jehu, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother, who was named Zibiah, was from Beer-sheba.
3 Joas fit ce qui plaît à Yahvé tout le temps qu’il fut sous la tutelle du prêtre Yoyada.	3 Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD as long as he lived, because the priest Jehoiada guided him.
4 Cependant les Hauts-Lieux ne disparurent pas, le peuple continuait à sacrifier et à brûler de l’encens sur les Hauts-Lieux.	4 Still, the high places did not disappear; the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense there.
5 Joas dit aux prêtres: “Tout l’argent qu’on apporte dans la Maison de Yahvé, l’argent des taxes personnelles comme l’argent qui provient des offrandes volontaires pour la Maison,	5 For the priests Joash made this rule: "All the funds for sacred purposes that are brought to the temple of the LORD--the census tax, personal redemption money, and whatever funds are freely brought to the temple of the LORD--
6 chacun des prêtres le recevra des gens qui s’adressent à lui. Ensuite ils s’en serviront pour réparer la Maison partout où cela sera nécessaire.”	6 the priests may take for themselves, each from his own clients. However, they must make whatever repairs on the temple may prove necessary."
7 Or, à la vingt-troisième année du règne de Joas, les prêtres n’avaient pas encore réparé la Maison.	7 Nevertheless, as late as the twenty-third year of the reign of King Joash, the priests had not made needed repairs on the temple.
8 Le roi Joas appela donc le prêtre Yoyada et les autres prêtres; il leur dit: “Pourquoi ne réparez-vous pas la Maison? Désormais vous ne prendrez plus l’argent de ceux qui s’adressent à vous, mais vous le verserez pour la réparation du Temple.”	8 Accordingly, King Joash summoned the priest Jehoiada and the other priests. "Why do you not repair the temple?" he asked them. "You must no longer take funds from your clients, but you shall turn them over for the repairs."
9 Les prêtres acceptèrent de ne plus recevoir cet argent et de ne plus avoir à leur charge les réparations du Temple.	9 So the priests agreed that they would neither take funds from the people nor make the repairs on the temple.
10 Le prêtre Yoyada prit donc un coffre et fit percer un trou dans le couvercle; il le mit à côté de l’autel, sur la droite quand on entre dans la Maison de Yahvé. Les prêtres qui gardaient la porte du Temple y déposaient tout l’argent que l’on apportait pour la Maison de Yahvé.	10 The priest Jehoiada then took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the stele, on the right as one entered the temple of the LORD. The priests who guarded the entry would put into it all the funds that were brought to the temple of the LORD.
11 Quand ils voyaient pas mal d’argent dans le coffre, le secrétaire du roi et le grand prêtre montaient pour ramasser et compter cet argent qui se trouvait dans la Maison de Yahvé.	11 When they noticed that there was a large amount of silver in the chest, the royal scribe (and the priest) would come up, and they would melt down all the funds that were in the temple of the LORD, and weigh them.
12 Une fois l’argent compté, on le remettait à ceux qui faisaient le travail et qui étaient chargés d’entretenir la Maison de Yahvé; ils l’utilisaient pour les charpentiers et les ouvriers qui travaillaient dans la Maison de Yahvé,	12 The amount thus realized they turned over to the master workmen in the temple of the LORD. They in turn would give it to the carpenters and builders working in the temple of the LORD,
13 pour les maçons et les tailleurs de pierres, et aussi pour acheter le bois et les pierres de taille des réparations du Temple de Yahvé; en un mot, ils le dépensaient pour toutes les réparations nécessaires dans la Maison de Yahvé.	13 and to the lumbermen and stone cutters, and for the purchase of the wood and hewn stone used in repairing the breaches, and for any other expenses that were necessary to repair the temple.
14 Avec l’argent apporté pour la Maison de Yahvé, on ne faisait ni cuvettes d’argent, ni couteaux, ni cruchettes, ni trompettes, ni aucun objet d’or ou d’argent pour la Maison de Yahvé,	14 None of the funds brought to the temple of the LORD were used there to make silver cups, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any gold or silver article.
15 mais on le remettait à ceux qui faisaient le travail et ils s’en servaient pour réparer la Maison de Yahvé.	15 Instead, they were given to the workmen, and with them they repaired the temple of the LORD.
16 On ne demandait aucun compte aux hommes à qui l’on remettait l’argent pour payer les travailleurs, car c’étaient des hommes honnêtes.	16 Moreover, no reckoning was asked of the men who were provided with the funds to give to the workmen, because they held positions of trust.
17 Seul l’argent des sacrifices pour le péché et des sacrifices de réparation n’était pas apporté au Temple de Yahvé: il était pour les prêtres.	17 The funds from guilt-offerings and from sin-offerings, however, were not brought to the temple of the LORD; they belonged to the priests.
18 C’est en ce temps-là qu’Hazaël, roi d’Aram, monta pour combattre Gat et s’en empara. Hazaël voulait attaquer Jérusalem,	18 Then King Hazael of Aram mounted a siege against Gath. When he had taken it, Hazael decided to go on to attack Jerusalem.
19 mais Joas, roi de Juda, prit tous les objets consacrés par Josaphat, Joram et Okozias, ses ancêtres, les rois de Juda. Il prit aussi tout ce qu’il avait consacré lui-même, tout l’or qui se trouvait dans les trésors du Temple de Yahvé et du palais royal, et il l’envoya à Hazaël, roi d’Aram. Celui-ci s’éloigna de Jérusalem.	19 But King Jehoash of Judah took all the dedicated offerings presented by his forebears, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, kings of Judah, as well as his own, and all the gold there was in the treasuries of the temple and the palace, and sent them to King Hazael of Aram, who then led his forces away from Jerusalem.
20 Le reste des actions de Joas, tout ce qu’il a fait, cela n’est-il pas écrit au Livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?	20 The rest of the acts of Joash, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
21 Les serviteurs de Joas firent une conspiration pour l’assassiner à Beth-Millo;	21 Certain of his officials entered into a plot against him and killed him at Beth-millo.
22 là, Yozakar fils de Chiméat et Yozabad fils de Chomer le frappèrent à mort. On l’enterra avec ses pères dans la Cité de David, et Amasias, son fils, régna à sa place.	22 Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, were the officials who killed him. He was buried in his forefathers' City of David, and his son Amaziah succeeded him as king.
