1 Au commencement Dieu créa le ciel et la terre.	1 In the beginning, God created heaven and earth.
2 La terre était informe et vide, les ténèbres couvraient l’abîme, et l’Esprit de Dieu planait au-dessus des eaux.	2 But the earth was empty and unoccupied, and darknesses were over the face of the abyss; and so the Spirit of God was brought over the waters.
3 Dieu dit: “Que la lumière soit!” Et la lumière fut.	3 And God said, “Let there be light.” And light became.
4 Dieu vit que la lumière était bonne, et Dieu sépara la lumière d’avec les ténèbres.	4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and so he divided the light from the darknesses.
5 Dieu appela la lumière: “jour”, il appela les ténèbres: “nuit”. Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: premier jour.	5 And he called the light, ‘Day,’ and the darknesses, ‘Night.’ And it became evening and morning, one day.
6 Dieu dit: “Qu’il y ait une voûte au milieu des eaux, et qu’elle sépare les eaux d’avec les eaux!” Et il en fut ainsi!	6 God also said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide waters from waters.”
7 Dieu fit donc comme une voûte, et il sépara les eaux qui sont au-dessous de la voûte, des eaux qui sont au-dessus de la voûte.	7 And God made a firmament, and he divided the waters that were under the firmament, from those that were above the firmament. And so it became.
8 Dieu donna un nom à cette voûte: “le ciel”. Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: deuxième jour.	8 And God called the firmament ‘Heaven.’ And it became evening and morning, the second day.
9 Dieu dit: “Que les eaux qui sont au-dessous du ciel s’amassent en une seule masse et que le sol ferme apparaisse!” Il en fut ainsi.	9 Truly God said: “Let the waters that are under heaven be gathered together into one place; and let the dry land appear.” And so it became.
10 Dieu donna un nom au sol ferme: “la terre”, et il appela “mers” la masse des eaux; Dieu vit que cela était bon.	10 And God called the dry land, ‘Earth,’ and he called the gathering of the waters, ‘Seas.’ And God saw that it was good.
11 Dieu dit: “Que la terre produise de la verdure, de l’herbe portant sa semence, et des arbres qui donnent sur terre des fruits contenant leur semence, chacun selon son espèce!” Il en fut ainsi.	11 And he said, “Let the land spring forth green plants, both those producing seed, and fruit-bearing trees, producing fruit according to their kind, whose seed is within itself, over all the earth.” And so it became.
12 La terre produisit de la verdure, de l’herbe portant sa semence selon son espèce, et des arbres dont les fruits ont en eux leur semence selon leur espèce. Dieu vit que cela était bon.	12 And the land brought forth green plants, both those producing seed, according to their kind, and trees producing fruit, with each having its own way of sowing, according to its species. And God saw that it was good.
13 Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: troisième jour.	13 And it became evening and the morning, the third day.
14 Dieu dit: “Qu’il y ait des luminaires à la voûte du ciel pour séparer le jour de la nuit, pour marquer les saisons, les jours et les années:	14 Then God said: “Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven. And let them divide day from night, and let them become signs, both of the seasons, and of the days and years.
15 ils brilleront à la voûte du ciel pour éclairer la terre!” Il en fut ainsi.	15 Let them shine in the firmament of heaven and illuminate the earth.” And so it became.
16 Dieu fit donc les deux grands luminaires: le grand luminaire pour gouverner le jour, et le petit luminaire pour gouverner la nuit. Il fit aussi les étoiles.	16 And God made two great lights: a greater light, to rule over the day, and a lesser light, to rule over the night, along with the stars.
17 Dieu les fixa à la voûte du ciel pour éclairer la terre,	17 And he set them in the firmament of heaven, to give light over all the earth,
18 pour gouverner le jour et la nuit, pour séparer la lumière des ténèbres. Dieu vit que cela était bon.	18 and to rule over the day as well as the night, and to divide light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: quatrième jour.	19 And it became evening and morning, the fourth day.
20 Dieu dit: “Que les eaux se peuplent d’une multitude d’êtres vivants, et qu’il y ait des oiseaux pour voler au-dessus de la terre en dessous de la voûte du ciel!”	20 And then God said, “Let the waters produce animals with a living soul, and flying creatures above the earth, under the firmament of heaven.”
21 Dieu créa donc les grands monstres de la mer et tous les êtres vivants qui se glissent et qui foisonnent dans les eaux selon leur espèce, et tous les oiseaux selon leur espèce. Dieu vit que cela était bon.	21 And God created the great sea creatures, and everything with a living soul and the ability to move that the waters produced, according to their species, and all the flying creatures, according to their kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 Dieu les bénit et leur dit: “Développez-vous, multipliez-vous, remplissez les eaux de la mer, et que les oiseaux se multiplient sur la terre!”	22 And he blessed them, saying: “Increase and multiply, and fill the waters of the sea. And let the birds be multiplied above the land.”
23 Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: cinquième jour.	23 And it became evening and morning, the fifth day.
24 Dieu dit: “Que la terre produise des bêtes de toute espèce: animaux des champs, reptiles, bêtes sauvages, chacun selon son espèce!” Il en fut ainsi.	24 God also said, “Let the land produce living souls in their kind: cattle, and animals, and wild beasts of the earth, according to their species.” And so it became.
25 Dieu fit les bêtes sauvages selon leur espèce, les animaux des champs selon leur espèce, et tous les reptiles de la terre selon leur espèce. Dieu vit que cela était bon.	25 And God made the wild beasts of the earth according to their species, and the cattle, and every animal on the land, according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Dieu dit: “Faisons l’Homme à notre image et à notre ressemblance. Qu’il ait autorité sur les poissons de la mer, les oiseaux du ciel, les animaux des champs et toutes les bêtes sauvages et les reptiles qui rampent sur la terre!”	26 And he said: “Let us make Man to our image and likeness. And let him rule over the fish of the sea, and the flying creatures of the air, and the wild beasts, and the entire earth, and every animal that moves on the earth.”
27 Dieu créa l’Homme à son image; à l’image de Dieu il le créa; Homme et Femme il les créa.	27 And God created man to his own image; to the image of God he created him; male and female, he created them.
28 Dieu les bénit et leur dit: “Développez-vous, multipliez-vous, remplissez la terre et dominez-la. Ayez autorité sur les poissons de la mer, les oiseaux du ciel et tous les animaux qui vont et viennent sur la terre!”	28 And God blessed them, and he said, “Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the flying creatures of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
29 Dieu dit: “Je vous donne en ce jour toutes les plantes à graines qui poussent sur toute la terre, et tous les arbres qui portent des fruits avec leur semence: ce sera là votre nourriture.	29 And God said: “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant upon the earth, and all the trees that have in themselves the ability to sow their own kind, to be food for you,
30 L’herbe verte sera la nourriture des bêtes sauvages, des oiseaux du ciel, et de tous les animaux qui vont et viennent sur la terre.” Il en fut ainsi.	30 and for all the animals of the land, and for all the flying things of the air, and for everything that moves upon the earth and in which there is a living soul, so that they may have these on which to feed.” And so it became.
31 Dieu vit tout ce qu’il avait fait: cela était très bon. Il y eut un soir, il y eut un matin: sixième jour.	31 And God saw everything that he had made. And they were very good. And it became evening and morning, the sixth day.
