1 És újra megszólalt Eliú, és ezeket is mondta:	1 Then Elihu said:
2 »Halljátok, bölcsek, szavaimat, figyeljetek rám, ti okosak!	2 "Hear my words, you wise men, and give ear to me, you who know;
3 Mert a fül vizsgálja meg a szavakat, miként az íny ízleli meg az ételt.	3 for the ear tests words as the palate tastes food.
4 Válasszuk magunknak azt, ami helyes, állapodjunk meg, vajon mi jobb?	4 Let us choose what is right; let us determine among ourselves what is good.
5 Azt mondta ugyanis Jób: ‘Igaz vagyok, de Isten megtagadja igazamat!	5 For Job has said, 'I am innocent, and God has taken away my right;
6 Hamisság van megítélésemben; kegyetlen nyíl talált, holott bűnöm nincsen!’	6 in spite of my right I am counted a liar; my wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.'
7 Van-e férfi, Jóbhoz hasonló, aki issza a gúnyolódást, mint a vizet?	7 What man is like Job, who drinks up scoffing like water,
8 Aki azokkal tart, akik gonoszt művelnek, és istentelen emberekkel jár-kel?	8 who goes in company with evildoers and walks with wicked men?
9 Mert azt mondta: ‘Nem kedves az ember Isten előtt, még akkor sem, ha híven követi!’	9 For he has said, 'It profits a man nothing that he should take delight in God.'
10 Azért hallgassatok rám ti, okos emberek! Távol legyen Istentől a gonoszság s a Mindenhatótól a jogfosztás!	10 "Therefore, hear me, you men of understanding, far be it from God that he should do wickedness, and from the Almighty that he should do wrong.
11 Mert ő az embernek tettei szerint fizet, és mindenkinek útja szerint viszonoz;	11 For according to the work of a man he will requite him, and according to his ways he will make it befall him.
12 mert valóban, Isten nem kárhoztat ok nélkül, s a Mindenható nem ferdíti el az igazságot!	12 Of a truth, God will not do wickedly, and the Almighty will not pervert justice.
13 Kit rendelt mást a föld fölé, vagy kit tett a világ fölé, amelyet alkotott?	13 Who gave him charge over the earth and who laid on him the whole world?
14 Ha arra irányozná szívét, vissza is vonhatná magához leheletét, lélegzetét,	14 If he should take back his spirit to himself, and gather to himself his breath,
15 akkor kimúlna minden élőlény egyaránt, s az ember visszatérne a porba.	15 all flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust.
16 Ha tehát okos vagy, halld meg, amit mondok, és figyelj beszédem szavára!	16 "If you have understanding, hear this; listen to what I say.
17 Tud-e kormányozni, aki gyűlöli az igazságot, és hogyan hibáztatod annyira őt, aki igazságos?	17 Shall one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty,
18 Hisz ő még a királynak is azt mondja: ‘Te hitszegő!’ és a főembereknek: ‘Ti gonosztevők!’	18 who says to a king, 'Worthless one,' and to nobles, 'Wicked man';
19 Nem tekinti ő a fejedelmek személyét. Nem ismeri a zsarnokot, amikor a szegénnyel vetekedik – mert mindannyian keze alkotásai. –	19 who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?
20 Meghalnak az ilyenek hirtelen, az éj közepén; kimúlnak a gazdagok, elmennek, s ő eltávolítja az erőszakost kézmozdulat nélkül.	20 In a moment they die; at midnight the people are shaken and pass away, and the mighty are taken away by no human hand.
21 Mert az ő szeme az emberek útjain van, és látja minden lépésüket,	21 "For his eyes are upon the ways of a man, and he sees all his steps.
22 nincs sötétség, nincs halál-árnyék, hol a gonosztevők elrejtőzzenek,	22 There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves.
23 mert nincs az ember kényére bízva, mikor menjen Isten elé ítéletre,	23 For he has not appointed a time for any man to go before God in judgment.
24 összezúz ő sokakat szám nélkül, és másokat állít helyükre.	24 He shatters the mighty without investigation, and sets others in their place.
25 Mert ismeri tetteiket, elhozza azért rájuk az éjt és eltapossák őket.	25 Thus, knowing their works, he overturns them in the night, and they are crushed.
26 Megveri őket, mint gonosztevőket olyan helyen, ahol sokan látják,	26 He strikes them for their wickedness in the sight of men,
27 azért, mert készakarva eltávoztak tőle, és egyáltalán nem akarták megérteni útjait,	27 because they turned aside from following him, and had no regard for any of his ways,
28 mert eléje juttatták a nyomorgó kiáltását, és meghallja a szegények jajszavát.	28 so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him, and he heard the cry of the afflicted--
29 Ha pedig ő nyugalmat ad, ki az, aki kárhoztassa, és ha elrejti arcát, ki az, aki szemlélhetné? Ha népek, sőt az összes ember fölött	29 When he is quiet, who can condemn? When he hides his face, who can behold him, whether it be a nation or a man?--
30 istentelen embert enged uralkodni, a nép bűnei miatt,	30 that a godless man should not reign, that he should not ensnare the people.
31 akkor így szólok Istenhez: ‘Nem állok neked ellen!	31 "For has any one said to God, 'I have borne chastisement; I will not offend any more;
32 Ha hibáztam, akkor taníts engem, ha rosszul beszéltem, nem teszem többé!’	32 teach me what I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?
33 Vajon Isten tőled kérdezze-e, mert nem vagy megelégedve: ‘Mivelhogy tied a döntés, nem az enyém, mondd meg tehát, hogyan tudnád jobban!’	33 Will he then make requital to suit you, because you reject it? For you must choose, and not I; therefore declare what you know.
34 Az értelmes emberek megmondják majd nekem, s a bölcs férfiak, akik engem hallgatnak:	34 Men of understanding will say to me, and the wise man who hears me will say:
35 ‘Nem beszél Jób bölcsen, és szavai megfontolás nélkül valók!’	35 'Job speaks without knowledge, his words are without insight.'
36 Atyám! tedd próbára Jóbot mindvégig! Ne engedd ki kezedből a gonoszság emberét,	36 Would that Job were tried to the end, because he answers like wicked men.
37 mert vétkeit káromlással tetézi, gúnyosan tapsol közöttünk és ítéletre hívja ki Istent szavaival.«	37 For he adds rebellion to his sin; he claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God."
