1 Poslaše mu zbog toga glasnike s miroljubivim prijedlozima i poručiše:	1 They therefore sent envoys to him to sue for peace, to say,
2 »Evo, mi podanici velikoga kralja Nabukodonozora padamo ničice preda te: učini s nama što ti se prohtije.	2 'We are servants of the great King Nebuchadnezzar; we lie prostrate before you. Treat us as you thinkfit.
3 Evo ti naših kuća, našega kraja, žitnih polja, stada, stoke: svi torovi naših šatora ovise samo o jednom tvome migu; služi se svime kako ti se ushtije i kako ti se svidi.	3 Our cattle-farms, al our land, al our wheat fields, our flocks and herds, all the sheep-folds in ourencampments are at your disposal. Do with them as you please.
4 Evo, i naši su gradovi sa svojim stanovnicima robovi tvoji, samo dođi i učini s njima što je dobro u očima tvojim.«	4 Our towns and their inhabitants too are at your service; go and treat them as you think fit.'
5 Ljudi dođoše do Holoferna i saopćiše mu te poruke.	5 These men came to Holofernes and delivered the message as above.
6 On siđe s vojskom prema obali, postavi upravitelje po utvrđenim gradovima te iz tih gradova unovači posebno izabrane ljude kao pomoćnu vojnicu.	6 He then made his way down to the coast with his army and stationed garrisons in al the fortified towns,levying outstanding men there as auxiliaries.
7 Građani i sav okoliš dočekaše ga s vijencima, plesovima i bubnjevima.	7 The people of these cities and of al the other towns in the neighbourhood welcomed him, wearinggarlands and dancing to the sound of tambourines.
8 Poruši on sve njihove uzvišice, sravni sa zemljom svete gajeve njihove: bilo mu je najvelikodušnije dopušteno da razruši sva domaća božanstva kako bi svi narodi častili samo Nabukodonozora i svi ga jezici i plemena zazivali kao Boga.	8 But he demolished their shrines and cut down their sacred trees, carrying out his commission to destroyal local gods so that the nations should worship Nebuchadnezzar alone and people of every language andnationality should hail him as a god.
9 Stiže tako nasuprot Ezdrelonu u blizini Dotaina, a to je sučelice velikoj judejskoj ravni. Utabori se između Gebe i Skitopolisa i tu se zadrža cio mjesec dana da sakupi opskrbu za svoju vojsku.	9 Thus he reached the edge of Esdraelon, in the neighbourhood of Dothan, a vil age facing the great ridgeof Judaea.
	10 He pitched camp between Geba and Scythopolis and stayed there a ful month to re-provision hisforces.
