1 Tada se sabraše sva izraelska plemena k Davidu u Hebron i rekoše: »Evo, mi smo od tvoje kosti i od tvoga mesa.	1 Al the tribes of Israel then came to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.
2 Još prije, dok je još Šaul bio kralj nad nama, ti si upravljao svim pokretima Izraela, a Jahve ti je rekao: ‘Ti ćeš pásti moj izraelski narod i ti ćeš biti knez nad Izraelom!’«	2 In days past when Saul was our king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and to you it was thatYahweh promised, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of Israel." '
3 Tako dođoše sve izraelske starješine kralju u Hebron, a kralj David sklopi s njima savez u Hebronu pred Jahvom; i pomazaše Davida za kralja nad Izraelom.	3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a pact with them inYahweh's presence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel.
4 Trideset je godina bilo Davidu kad je postao kralj, a kraljevao je četrdeset godina.	4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years.
5 U Hebronu je kraljevao nad Judom sedam godina i šest mjeseci, a u Jeruzalemu kraljevaše trideset i tri godine nad svim Izraelom i nad Judom.	5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months; then he reigned in Jerusalem over allIsrael and Judah for thirty-three years.
6 David krene s ljudima na Jeruzalem protiv Jebusejaca, koji su živjeli u onoj zemlji. Ali oni poručiše Davidu: »Nećeš ući ovamo! Slijepci će te i kljasti odbiti!« (To je imalo značiti: David neće ući ovamo.)	6 The king and his men then marched on Jerusalem, on the Jebusites living in the territory. These said toDavid, 'You wil not get in here. The blind and the lame wil hold you off.' (That is to say: David will never get inhere.)
7 Ipak David osvoji Sionsku tvrđavu, to jest Davidov grad.	7 But David captured the citadel of Zion, that is, the City of David.
8 Onoga dana reče David: »Tko god pobije Jebusejce i popne se kroz prorov...« A kljaste i slijepe mrzi David iz sve duše. (Stoga se kaže: Slijepci i kljasti neka ne ulaze u Hram.)	8 That day, David said, 'Whoever gets up the tunnel and kil s a Jebusite . . .' As for the blind and thelame, David hated them with his whole being. (Hence the saying: the blind and the lame may not enter theTemple.)
9 David se nastani u tvrđavi i prozva je Davidov grad. Tada David podiže zid unaokolo od Mila pa unutra.	9 David went to live in the citadel and cal ed it the City of David. David then built a wal round it, from theMil o inwards.
10 David je postajao sve silniji, jer Jahve, Bog nad vojskama, bijaše s njim.	10 David grew stronger and stronger, and Yahweh, God of Sabaoth, was with him.
11 Tirski kralj Hiram posla k Davidu izaslanstvo i cedrova drveta, tesara i zidara, koji sagradiše dvor Davidu.	11 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, carpenters and stone-cutters, who builtDavid a palace.
12 Tada David spozna da ga je Jahve potvrdio za kralja nad Izraelom i da je vrlo uzvisio njegovo kraljevstvo radi svojega izraelskog naroda.	12 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his peopleIsrael, had extended his sovereignty.
13 Po dolasku iz Hebrona David uze još inoča i žena iz Jeruzalema; i rodi se Davidu još sinova i kćeri.	13 After coming from Hebron, David took other concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and sons anddaughters were born to him.
14 Evo imena djece koja mu se rodiše u Jeruzalemu: Šamua, Šobab, Natan, Salomon,	14 These are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
15 Jibhar, Elišua, Nefeg, Jafija,	15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,
16 Elišama, Beeljada i Elifelet.	16 Elishama, Eliada, Eliphelet.
17 Kad su Filistejci čuli da su Davida pomazali za kralja nad Izraelom, iziđoše svi da se dočepaju Davida. Čuvši to, David siđe u svoj zaklon.	17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of Israel, they all went up to seekhim out. On hearing this, David went down to the stronghold.
18 Filistejci dođoše i raširiše se po Refaimskoj dolini.	18 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.
19 Tada David upita Jahvu: »Mogu li napasti Filistejce? Hoćeš li ih predati meni u ruke?« Jahve odgovori Davidu: »Napadni! Predat ću Filistejce tebi u ruke!«	19 David consulted Yahweh and asked, 'Shal I attack the Philistines? Wil you deliver them into mypower?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Attack! I shal certainly deliver the Philistines into your power.'
20 Tada David dođe u Baal Perasim i ondje ih pobi. David reče: »Jahve je preda mnom prodro među moje neprijatelje kao što voda prodire.« Stoga se ono mjesto prozvalo Baal Perasim.	20 Accordingly, David went to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. He said, 'Yahweh has madea breach in my enemies for me, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the place was giventhe name Baal-Perazim.
21 Ostavili su ondje svoje bogove; a David i njegovi ljudi odnesoše ih.	21 They had left their gods behind them there, and David and his men carried them off.
22 Filistejci opet dođoše i raširiše se po Refaimskoj dolini.	22 Again the Philistines invaded and deployed in the Valley of the Rephaim.
23 David opet upita Jahvu, a on mu odgovori: »Ne idi pred njih, nego im zađi za leđa i navali na njih s protivne strane Bekaima.	23 David consulted Yahweh, who replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round to their rear andengage them opposite the balsam trees.
24 Kad začuješ topot koraka po bekaimskim vrhovima, onda se požuri, jer će tada Jahve ići pred tobom da pobije filistejsku vojsku.«	24 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, advance, for that wil beYahweh going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'
25 David učini kako mu je zapovjedio Jahve i pobi Filistejce od Gibeona sve do ulaza u Gezer.	25 David did as Yahweh had ordered and beat the Philistines from Gibeon to the Pass of Gezer.
