1 Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, son of Joseph, had daughters named Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. They came forward,	1 Então aproximaram-se as filhas de Salfaad, filho Hefer , filho de Galaad, filho de Maquir, filho de Manassés, que foi filho de José; seus nomes eram Maala, Noa, Hegla, Melca e Tersa.
2 and standing in the presence of Moses, the priest Eleazar, the princes, and the whole community at the entrance of the meeting tent, said:	2 Apresentaram-se a Moisés e a Eleázaro sacerdote, e a todos os príncipes do povo, à porta do tabernáculo da reunião, e disseram:
3 "Our father died in the desert. Although he did not join those who banded together against the LORD (in Korah's band), he died for his own sin without leaving any sons.	3 Nosso pai morreu no deserto e não tomou parte na sedição excitada por Coré contra o Senhor, mas morreu no seu pecado, não teve filhos varões. Por que razão é tirado o seu nome da sua família, por não ter tido nenhum filho? Dai-nos uma propriedade entre os irmãos do nosso pai.
4 But why should our father's name be withdrawn from his clan merely because he had no son? Let us, therefore, have property among our father's kinsmen."	4 Moisés levou a causa deles ao juízo do Senhor,
5 When Moses laid their case before the LORD,	5 o qual lhe disse:
6 the LORD said to him,	6 As filhas de Salfaad pedem uma coisa justa: dá-lhes uma propriedade entre os irmãos de seu pai, sucedam-lhe na herança.
7 "The plea of Zelophehad's daughters is just; you shall give them hereditary property among their father's kinsmen, letting their father's heritage pass on to them.	7 Dirás aos filhos de Israel estes coisas:
8 Therefore, tell the Israelites: If a man dies without leaving a son, you shall let his heritage pass on to his daughter;	8 Quando algum homem morrer sem filhos, a herança passará a sua filha.
9 if he has no daughter, you shall give his heritage to his brothers;	9 Se não tiver filha, terá por sucessores a seus irmãos.
10 if he has no brothers, you shall give his heritage to his father's brothers;	10 Se não tiver também irmãos, dareis a herança aos irmãos de seu pai.
11 if his father had no brothers, you shall give his heritage to his nearest relative in his clan, who shall then take possession of it." This is the legal norm for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.	11 Se não tiver tampouco tios paternos, a herança será dada aos parentes mais próximos; isto será para os filhos de Israel uma coisa santa, como o Senhor ordenou a Moisés.
12 The LORD said to Moses, "Go up here into the Abarim Mountains and view the land that I am giving to the Israelites.	12 O Senhor disse também a Moisés: Sobe a este monte Abarim, e contempla de lá a terra que eu hei-de dar aos filhos de Israel.
13 When you have viewed it, you too shall be taken to your people, as was your brother Aaron,	13 Depois de a teres visto, irás também para o teu povo, como foi o teu irmão Aarão,
14 because in the rebellion of the community in the desert of Zin you both rebelled against my order to manifest my sanctity to them by means of the water." (This is the water of Meribah of Kadesh in the desert of Zin.)	14 porque me ofendeste no deserto de Sin, na contradição do povo, e não quiseste santificar-me diante dele por ocasião das águas; estas são as águas da contradição em Cades no deserto de Sin.
15 Then Moses said to the LORD,	15 Moisés respondeu-lhe:
16 "May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all mankind, set over the community a man	16 O Senhor Deus dos Espíritos de toda a carne escolha um homem, que seja sobre esta multidão,
17 who shall act as their leader in all things, to guide them in all their actions; that the LORD'S community may not be like sheep without a shepherd."	17 que possa sair e entrar diante deles, e fazê-los entrar ou fazê-los sair, para que o povo do Senhor não seja como ovelhas sem pastor.
18 And the LORD replied to Moses, "Take Joshua, son of Nun, a man of spirit, and lay your hand upon him.	18 O Senhor disse-lhe: Toma Josué, filho de Nun, homem no qual reside o (meu) espírito, e põe a tua mão sobre ele.
19 Have him stand in the presence of the priest Eleazar and of the whole community, and commission him before their eyes.	19 Ele estará diante do sacerdote Eleázaro e de toda a multidão:
20 Invest him with some of your own dignity, that the whole Israelite community may obey him.	20 tu lhe darás os preceitos à vista de todos, e uma parte da tua glória, para que toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel o ouça.
21 He shall present himself to the priest Eleazar, to have him seek out for him the decisions of the Urim in the LORD'S presence; and as he directs, Joshua, all the Israelites with him, and the community as a whole shall perform all their actions."	21 Quando se tiver de empreender alguma coisa, o sacerdote Eleázaro consultará o Senhor. A palavra deste, Josué sairá ou entrará e com ele todos os filhos de Israel, o resto do povo.
22 Moses did as the LORD had commanded him. Taking Joshua and having him stand in the presence of the priest Eleazar and of the whole community,	22 Moisés fez como o Senhor tinha ordenado. Tomou Josué apresentou-o diante do sacerdote Eleázaro e de todo o ajuntamento do povo.
23 he laid his hands on him and gave him his commission, as the LORD had directed through Moses.	23 Impostas as mãos sobre a sua cabeça, declarou-lhe tudo o que o Senhor tinha mandado.
