| 1 ובני ראובן בכור ישראל כי הוא הבכור ובחללו יצועי אביו נתנה בכרתו לבני יוסף בן ישראל ולא להתיחש לבכרה | 1 The sons of Reuben the first-born of Israel (for he was the first-born; but because he polluted his father's couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so that he is not enrolled in the genealogy according to the birthright; |
| 2 כי יהודה גבר באחיו ולנגיד ממנו והבכרה ליוסף | 2 though Judah became strong among his brothers and a prince was from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph), |
| 3 בני ראובן בכור ישראל חנוך ופלוא חצרון וכרמי | 3 the sons of Reuben, the first-born of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. |
| 4 בני יואל שמעיה בנו גוג בנו שמעי בנו | 4 The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shime-i his son, |
| 5 מיכה בנו ראיה בנו בעל בנו | 5 Micah his son, Re-aiah his son, Baal his son, |
| 6 בארה בנו אשר הגלה תלגת פלנאסר מלך אשר הוא נשיא לראובני | 6 Be-erah his son, whom Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria carried away into exile; he was a chieftain of the Reubenites. |
| 7 ואחיו למשפחתיו בהתיחש לתלדותם הראש יעיאל וזכריהו | 7 And his kinsmen by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned: the chief, Je-iel, and Zechariah, |
| 8 ובלע בן עזז בן שמע בן יואל הוא יושב בערער ועד נבו ובעל מעון | 8 and Bela the son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel, who dwelt in Aroer, as far as Nebo and Baal-meon. |
| 9 ולמזרח ישב עד לבוא מדברה למן הנהר פרת כי מקניהם רבו בארץ גלעד | 9 He also dwelt to the east as far as the entrance of the desert this side of the Euphrates, because their cattle had multiplied in the land of Gilead. |
| 10 ובימי שאול עשו מלחמה עם ההגראים ויפלו בידם וישבו באהליהם על כל פני מזרח לגלעד | 10 And in the days of Saul they made war on the Hagrites, who fell by their hand; and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the region east of Gilead. |
| 11 ובני גד לנגדם ישבו בארץ הבשן עד סלכה | 11 The sons of Gad dwelt over against them in the land of Bashan as far as Salecah: |
| 12 יואל הראש ושפם המשנה ויעני ושפט בבשן | 12 Joel the chief, Shapham the second, Janai, and Shaphat in Bashan. |
| 13 ואחיהם לבית אבותיהם מיכאל ומשלם ושבע ויורי ויעכן וזיע ועבר שבעה | 13 And their kinsmen according to their fathers' houses: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber, seven. |
| 14 אלה בני אביחיל בן חורי בן ירוח בן גלעד בן מיכאל בן ישישי בן יחדו בן בוז | 14 These were the sons of Abihail the son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz; |
| 15 אחי בן עבדיאל בן גוני ראש לבית אבותם | 15 Ahi the son of Abdi-el, son of Guni, was chief in their fathers' houses; |
| 16 וישבו בגלעד בבשן ובבנתיה ובכל מגרשי שרון על תוצאותם | 16 and they dwelt in Gilead, in Bashan and in its towns, and in all the pasture lands of Sharon to their limits. |
| 17 כלם התיחשו בימי יותם מלך יהודה ובימי ירבעם מלך ישראל | 17 All of these were enrolled by genealogies in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel. |
| 18 בני ראובן וגדי וחצי שבט מנשה מן בני חיל אנשים נשאי מגן וחרב ודרכי קשת ולמודי מלחמה ארבעים וארבעה אלף ושבע מאות וששים יצאי צבא | 18 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had valiant men, who carried shield and sword, and drew the bow, expert in war, forty-four thousand seven hundred and sixty, ready for service. |
| 19 ויעשו מלחמה עם ההגריאים ויטור ונפיש ונודב | 19 They made war upon the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab; |
| 20 ויעזרו עליהם וינתנו בידם ההגריאים וכל שעמהם כי לאלהים זעקו במלחמה ונעתור להם כי בטחו בו | 20 and when they received help against them, the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hands, for they cried to God in the battle, and he granted their entreaty because they trusted in him. |
| 21 וישבו מקניהם גמליהם חמשים אלף וצאן מאתים וחמשים אלף וחמורים אלפים ונפש אדם מאה אלף | 21 They carried off their livestock: fifty thousand of their camels, two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, two thousand asses, and a hundred thousand men alive. |
| 22 כי חללים רבים נפלו כי מהאלהים המלחמה וישבו תחתיהם עד הגלה | 22 For many fell slain, because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their place until the exile. |
| 23 ובני חצי שבט מנשה ישבו בארץ מבשן עד בעל חרמון ושניר והר חרמון המה רבו | 23 The members of the half-tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land; they were very numerous from Bashan to Baal-hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon. |
| 24 ואלה ראשי בית אבותם ועפר וישעי ואליאל ועזריאל וירמיה והודויה ויחדיאל אנשים גבורי חיל אנשי שמות ראשים לבית אבותם | 24 These were the heads of their fathers' houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azri-el, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdi-el, mighty warriors, famous men, heads of their fathers' houses. |
| 25 וימעלו באלהי אבותיהם ויזנו אחרי אלהי עמי הארץ אשר השמיד אלהים מפניהם | 25 But they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and played the harlot after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. |
| 26 ויער אלהי ישראל את רוח פול מלך אשור ואת רוח תלגת פלנסר מלך אשור ויגלם לראובני ולגדי ולחצי שבט מנשה ויביאם לחלח וחבור והרא ונהר גוזן עד היום הזה | 26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, the spirit of Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, namely, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river Gozan, to this day. |
