Genesis 37

1 Jakob ließ sich in dem Land nieder, in dem sich sein Vater als Fremder aufgehalten hatte, in Kanaan.	1 Jacob dwelt in the land of his father's sojournings, in the land of Canaan.
2 Das ist die Geschlechterfolge nach Jakob: Als Josef siebzehn Jahre zählte, also noch jung war, weidete er mit seinen Brüdern, den Söhnen Bilhas und Silpas, der Frauen seines Vaters, die Schafe und Ziegen. Josef hinterbrachte ihrem Vater, was die Brüder Böses taten.	2 This is the history of the family of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was shepherding the flock with his brothers; he was a lad with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives; and Joseph brought an ill report of them to their father.
3 Israel liebte Josef unter allen seinen Söhnen am meisten, weil er ihm noch in hohem Alter geboren worden war. Er ließ ihm einen Ärmelrock machen.	3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his children, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a long robe with sleeves.
4 Als seine Brüder sahen, dass ihr Vater ihn mehr liebte als alle seine Brüder, hassten sie ihn und konnten mit ihm kein gutes Wort mehr reden.	4 But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.
5 Einst hatte Josef einen Traum. Als er ihn seinen Brüdern erzählte, hassten sie ihn noch mehr.	5 Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they only hated him the more.
6 Er sagte zu ihnen: Hört, was ich geträumt habe.	6 He said to them, "Hear this dream which I have dreamed:
7 Wir banden Garben mitten auf dem Feld. Meine Garbe richtete sich auf und blieb auch stehen. Eure Garben umringten sie und neigten sich tief vor meiner Garbe.	7 behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf arose and stood upright; and behold, your sheaves gathered round it, and bowed down to my sheaf."
8 Da sagten seine Brüder zu ihm: Willst du etwa König über uns werden oder dich als Herr über uns aufspielen? Und sie hassten ihn noch mehr wegen seiner Träume und seiner Worte.	8 His brothers said to him, "Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to have dominion over us?" So they hated him yet more for his dreams and for his words.
9 Er hatte noch einen anderen Traum. Er erzählte ihn seinen Brüdern und sagte: Ich träumte noch einmal: Die Sonne, der Mond und elf Sterne verneigten sich tief vor mir.	9 Then he dreamed another dream, and told it to his brothers, and said, "Behold, I have dreamed another dream; and behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me."
10 Als er davon seinem Vater und seinen Brüdern erzählte, schalt ihn sein Vater und sagte zu ihm: Was soll das, was du da geträumt hast? Sollen wir vielleicht, ich, deine Mutter und deine Brüder, kommen und uns vor dir zur Erde niederwerfen?	10 But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him, and said to him, "What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?"
11 Seine Brüder waren eifersüchtig auf ihn, sein Vater aber vergaß die Sache nicht.	11 And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.
12 Als seine Brüder fortgezogen waren, um das Vieh ihres Vaters bei Sichem zu weiden,	12 Now his brothers went to pasture their father's flock near Shechem.
13 sagte Israel zu Josef: Deine Brüder weiden bei Sichem das Vieh. Geh, ich will dich zu ihnen schicken. Er antwortete: Ich bin bereit.	13 And Israel said to Joseph, "Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them." And he said to him, "Here I am."
14 Da sagte der Vater zu ihm: Geh doch hin und sieh, wie es deinen Brüdern und dem Vieh geht, und berichte mir! So schickte er ihn aus dem Tal von Hebron fort und Josef kam nach Sichem.	14 So he said to him, "Go now, see if it is well with your brothers, and with the flock; and bring me word again." So he sent him from the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
15 Ein Mann traf ihn, wie er auf dem Feld umherirrte; er fragte ihn: Was suchst du?	15 And a man found him wandering in the fields; and the man asked him, "What are you seeking?"
16 Josef antwortete: Meine Brüder suche ich. Sag mir doch, wo sie das Vieh weiden.	16 "I am seeking my brothers," he said, "tell me, I pray you, where they are pasturing the flock."
17 Der Mann antwortete: Sie sind von hier weitergezogen. Ich habe nämlich gehört, wie sie sagten: Gehen wir nach Dotan. Da ging Josef seinen Brüdern nach und fand sie in Dotan.	17 And the man said, "They have gone away, for I heard them say, 'Let us go to Dothan.'" So Joseph went after his brothers, and found them at Dothan.
18 Sie sahen ihn von weitem. Bevor er jedoch nahe an sie herangekommen war, fassten sie den Plan, ihn umzubringen.	18 They saw him afar off, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him.
19 Sie sagten zueinander: Dort kommt ja dieser Träumer.	19 They said to one another, "Here comes this dreamer.
20 Jetzt aber auf, erschlagen wir ihn und werfen wir ihn in eine der Zisternen. Sagen wir, ein wildes Tier habe ihn gefressen. Dann werden wir ja sehen, was aus seinen Träumen wird.	20 Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; then we shall say that a wild beast has devoured him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams."
21 Ruben hörte das und wollte ihn aus ihrer Hand retten. Er sagte: Begehen wir doch keinen Mord.	21 But when Reuben heard it, he delivered him out of their hands, saying, "Let us not take his life."
22 Und Ruben sagte zu ihnen: Vergießt kein Blut! Werft ihn in die Zisterne da in der Steppe, aber legt nicht Hand an ihn! Er wollte ihn nämlich aus ihrer Hand retten und zu seinem Vater zurückbringen.	22 And Reuben said to them, "Shed no blood; cast him into this pit here in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him"--that he might rescue him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.
23 Als Josef bei seinen Brüdern angekommen war, zogen sie ihm sein Gewand aus, den Ärmelrock, den er anhatte,	23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the long robe with sleeves that he wore;
24 packten ihn und warfen ihn in die Zisterne. Die Zisterne war leer; es war kein Wasser darin.	24 and they took him and cast him into a pit. The pit was empty, there was no water in it.
25 Als sie dann beim Essen saßen und aufblickten, sahen sie, dass gerade eine Karawane von Ismaelitern aus Gilead kam. Ihre Kamele waren mit Tragakant, Mastix und Ladanum beladen. Sie waren unterwegs nach Ägypten.	25 Then they sat down to eat; and looking up they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt.
26 Da schlug Juda seinen Brüdern vor: Was haben wir davon, wenn wir unseren Bruder erschlagen und sein Blut zudecken?	26 Then Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood?
27 Kommt, verkaufen wir ihn den Ismaelitern. Wir wollen aber nicht Hand an ihn legen, denn er ist doch unser Bruder und unser Verwandter. Seine Brüder waren einverstanden.	27 Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our own flesh." And his brothers heeded him.
28 Midianitische Kaufleute kamen vorbei. Da zogen sie Josef aus der Zisterne heraus und verkauften ihn für zwanzig Silberstücke an die Ismaeliter. Diese brachten Josef nach Ägypten.	28 Then Midianite traders passed by; and they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver; and they took Joseph to Egypt.
29 Als Ruben zur Zisterne zurückkam, war Josef nicht mehr dort. Er zerriss seine Kleider,	29 When Reuben returned to the pit and saw that Joseph was not in the pit, he rent his clothes
30 wandte sich an seine Brüder und sagte: Der Kleine ist ja nicht mehr da. Und ich, was soll ich jetzt anfangen?	30 and returned to his brothers, and said, "The lad is gone; and I, where shall I go?"
31 Da nahmen sie Josefs Gewand, schlachteten einen Ziegenbock und tauchten das Gewand in das Blut.	31 Then they took Joseph's robe, and killed a goat, and dipped the robe in the blood;
32 Dann schickten sie den Ärmelrock zu ihrem Vater und ließen ihm sagen: Das haben wir gefunden. Sieh doch, ob das der Rock deines Sohnes ist oder nicht.	32 and they sent the long robe with sleeves and brought it to their father, and said, "This we have found; see now whether it is your son's robe or not."
33 Als er ihn angesehen hatte, sagte er: Der Rock meines Sohnes! Ein wildes Tier hat ihn gefressen. Zerrissen, zerrissen ist Josef.	33 And he recognized it, and said, "It is my son's robe; a wild beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces."
34 Jakob zerriss seine Kleider, legte Trauerkleider an und trauerte um seinen Sohn viele Tage.	34 Then Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
35 Alle seine Söhne und Töchter machten sich auf, um ihn zu trösten. Er aber ließ sich nicht trösten und sagte: Ich will dauernd zu meinem Sohn in die Unterwelt hinabsteigen. So beweinte ihn sein Vater.	35 All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and said, "No, I shall go down to Sheol to my son, mourning." Thus his father wept for him.
36 Die Midianiter aber verkauften Josef nach Ägypten an Potifar, einen Hofbeamten des Pharao, den Obersten der Leibwache.	36 Meanwhile the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Poti-phar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.
