Iob 6

BIBBIA VOLGARE	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Rispose Iob, e disse:	1 But Job, responding, said:
2 Dio il volesse, che li peccati miei fossero a peso, per li quali io meritai l'ira; e la miseria, ch' io patisco, nella stadera.	2 I wish that my sins, for which I deserve wrath, and the calamity that I endure, were weighed out on a balance.
3 Quasi come l'arena del mare, questa è più grave; donde le parole mie di dolore sono piene.	3 Compared to the sand of the sea, they would appear heavier, and so my words are full of sorrow.
4 Però che le saette del Signore in me sono, le indignazioni delle quali ha bevuto lo spirito mio; e le paure del (nostro) Signore cavalcano contro a me.	4 For the arrows of the Lord are in me, my spirit drinks of their indignation, and the terrors of the Lord are soldiers against me.
5 Or raggirà l'asino, quando avrà l'erba? e muggerà lo bue, quando starà dinanzi alla mangiatoia piena?	5 Will the wild ass bray when he has grass? Or will the ox bellow when he stands before a full manger?
6 Ovvero puote alcuno assaggiare quello che non era salato? (senza sale). Ovvero puote alcuno assaggiare quello, lo qual assaggiato dà la morte?	6 Or can one eat bland food, which is not seasoned with salt? Or can anyone taste that which, if tasted, causes death?
7 (All' anima dello affamato ancora quelle cose che sono amare paiono dolci), quelle cose le quali in prima non volea toccare l'anima mia, ora per l'angoscia i cibi miei sono.	7 The things that my soul was unwilling to touch before, now, because of anguish, are my foods.
8 Chi mi dà, che venghi a me la petizione mia, e quello ch' io aspetto dia a me Iddio?	8 Who will grant that my petition may arrive and that God may bestow on me what I expect,
9 E colui che cominciò, lui mi fracassi, sciolga la mano sua e uccida me?	9 and that he who, at first, had crushed me, will let loose his hand and cut me down?
10 E questo sarà a me consolazione, che tormentato me con dolore, non mi perdoni; e non contraddicerò alle parole del Santo.	10 And may this be my consolation, that in afflicting me with sorrow, although he might not be lenient with me, I still do not contradict the words of the Holy One.
11 Che è adunque la fortezza mia, acciò ch' io sostenga? O vero quale è lo mio fine, ch' io mi stia pazientemente?	11 For what is my strength, that I may continue? Or what is my goal, so that I may act patiently?
12 Nè anco la fortezza mia è fortezza di pietre; nè anco la carne mia è di metallo.	12 My strength is not the strength of stones, nor is my flesh made of bronze.
13 Ecco, non è a me aiuto in me, e (alle mie cose bisognevoli) li miei amici si partiro da me.	13 Behold, there is no help for me in myself, and my loved ones also have withdrawn from me.
14 E colui che toglie dall' amico suo la misericordia, la paura del Signore abbandona.	14 He who takes away mercy from his friend, abandons the fear of the Lord.
15 Li fratelli miei trapassarono me, sì come il torrente che ratto passa nella valle.	15 My brethren have disregarded me, like a torrent that passes swiftly through the steep valleys.
16 Coloro che temono la brinata, cadrà sopra loro la neve.	16 Those who fear frost, snow will rush over them.
17 Nel tempo, nel quale saranno dissipati, periranno; e quando si scalderanno, saranno disciolti del suo luogo.	17 At that time, when they are scattered, they will perish, and when it becomes hot, they will be freed from their place.
18 Involte sono le vie delli andamenti loro; anderanno in vôto, e periranno.	18 The paths of their steps are entangled; they will walk in vain and will perish.
19 Considerate le vie di Tema, e gli andamenti di Saba; e aspettate uno poco.	19 Consider the paths of Thema, the ways of Saba, and wait a little while.
20 Confusi sono, perciò ch' io sperai; in verità vennero insino a me, e di vergogna coperti sono.	20 They have been thrown into confusion, just as I had hoped; they have even come to me and are overwhelmed with shame.
21 Ora siete venuti; e ora vedete la piaga mia, e temete.	21 Now you have arrived, and merely by seeing my affliction, you are afraid.
22 Or non vi dissi: arrecate a me, e della sostanza vostra donate a me.	22 Did I say: “Bring to me and give to me from your necessities?”
23 O veramente: liberatemi della mano del nimico, e della mano delli robusti scampate me.	23 or, “Free me from the hand of the enemy and rescue me from the hand of the strong?”
24 Ammaestrate me, e io tacerò; e se per avventura alcuna cosa io non ho saputo, ammaestratemi.	24 Teach me, and I will be silent, and if by chance I have been ignorant of anything, instruct me.
25 Perchè detraeste alle parole della veritade, conciosia cosa che non sia alcuno di voi che mi possa riprendere?	25 Why have you diminished the words of truth, when there is none of you who is able to offer proof against me?
26 Di riprendere solamente lo parlare ragionevole voi fabbricate, e le parole alli venti voi proferite.	26 You prepare speeches as so much noise, and you offer words into the wind.
27 Sopra lo pupillo rovinate, e di subvertere vi sforzate l'amico vostro.	27 You encroach upon the orphan, and you strive to undermine your friend.
28 Ma impertanto quello che avete cominciato, compietelo; date le orecchie, e vedete se io mento.	28 Such is true, so finish what you have begun. Listen closely, and see if I lie.
29 Rispondete, io ve ne prego, senza contenzione; e favellate, e quello ch' è giusto giudicate.	29 Respond, I beg you, without contention, and, speaking what is just, pass judgment.
30 E non troverete nella lingua mia iniquitade, nè nelle mascelle mie risuonerà sciocchezza.	30 And you will not find iniquity on my tongue, nor will foolishness resound in my throat.
