Iob 11

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Rispose Sofar Naamatite, e disse:	1 Zophar of Naamath spoke next. He said:
2 Or colui che molto favella, non udirà? Ovvero l'uomo, che sarà pieno di parole, sarà giustificato?	2 Is babbling to go without an answer? Is wordiness a proof of uprightness?
3 A te solo taceranno li uomini? e quando avrai scherniti tutti li altri, da niuno sarai confutato?	3 Do you think your talking strikes people dumb, will you jeer with no one to refute you?
4 Certo tu dicesti: pura è la parola mia, e mondo sono nel cospetto tuo.	4 These were your words, 'My conduct is pure, in your eyes I am free of blame!'
5 E Iddio il volesse, ch' elli favellasse teco, e aprisse i labbri suoi a te,	5 Wil no one let God speak, open his lips and give you answer,
6 acciò ch' elli mostrasse a te le secrete cose della sapienza, e che in molti modi fosse la legge sua qui; e intendessi che molte cose minori abbi da Dio, che non meriti la iniquitade tua.	6 show you the secrets of wisdom which put all cleverness to shame? Then you would realise that Godis cal ing you to account for your sin.
7 Forse gli andamenti (suoi) di Dio comprenderai, e insino all' Onnipotente perfetto ritornerai?	7 Can you claim to fathom the depth of God, can you reach the limit of Shaddai?
8 Più alto è che il cielo; e che farai? più adentro che lo inferno; e donde lo conoscerai?	8 It is higher than the heavens: what can you do? It is deeper than Sheol: what can you know?
9 La misura sua è più lunga che la terra, larga più che il mare.	9 It would be longer to measure than the earth and broader than the sea.
10 S'elli sovertisse ogni cosa, ovvero che insieme le raunasse chi (li) contraddirà a lui? (Ovvero chi li potrà dire: perchè fai tu così?)	10 If he intervenes to close or convoke the assembly, who is to prevent him?
11 In verità elli conosce la vanitade delli uomini; e vedendo la iniquitade, or non la considera?	11 He knows how deceptive human beings are, and he sees their misdeeds too, and marks them wel .
12 L'uomo vano in superbia si dirizza; e sì come puledro dell' asino, così pensa essere nato libero.	12 Hence empty-headed people would do wel to study sense and people who behave like wild donkeysto let themselves be tamed.
13 Ma tu fermasti lo cuore tuo, e spandesti a lui le tue mani.	13 Come, reconsider your attitude, stretch out your hands towards him!
14 Se la iniquitade, che è nelle tue mani, tu torrae da te, e non starae nel tabernacolo tuo la tua ingiustizia;	14 If you repudiate the sin which you have doubtless committed and do not al ow wickedness to live onin your tents,
15 allora potrai levare la faccia tua senza macchia, e sarai stabile, e non temerai.	15 you wil be able to raise an unsullied face, unwavering and free from fear,
16 E di ciascuna miseria ti dimenticherai; e sì come dell' acque che trapassorono, non ti ricorderai.	16 for you wil forget about your misery, thinking of it only as a flood that passed long ago.
17 E sì come lo splendore del mezzodì si leverà a te nel vespro; e quando penserai te essere consumato, risplenderai sì come la stella Diana.	17 Then begins an existence more radiant than noon, and the very darkness wil be bright as morning.
18 E avrai proposto a te la speranza, e sepolto sicuro dormirai.	18 Confident because there is hope; after your troubles, you wil sleep secure.
19 Riposera'ti, e non sarà chi ti spaventi; e pregheranno la faccia tua molti.	19 When you lie down to rest, no one will trouble you, and many wil seek your favour.
20 E li occhii degli maligni verranno meno, e lo fuggire perirae da loro, e la speranza loro (ad) abbominazione dell' anima.	20 But as for the wicked, their eyes are weary, there is no refuge for them; their only hope is to breathetheir last.
