1 Quem toca no pez ficará manchado; e quem trata com o orgulhoso, tornar-se-á orgulhoso.	1 He that toucheth pitch, shall be defiled with it: and he that hath fellowship with the proud, shall put on pride.
2 Quem se liga com um mais poderoso do que ele, põe (sob os ombros) uma pesada carga. Não te tornes amigo de um mais poderoso do que tu.	2 He shall take a burden upon him that hath fellowship with one more honourable than himself. And have no fellowship with one that is richer than thyself.
3 Que ligação pode haver entre um pote de barro e um pote de ferro? Quando houver choque, (o pote de barro) será quebrado.	3 What agreement shall the earthen pot have with the kettle? for if they knock one against the other, it shall be broken.
4 O rico comete uma injustiça e em seguida se põe a gritar; o pobre, ofendido, guarda silêncio.	4 The rich man hath done wrong, and yet he will fume: but the poor is wronged and must hold his peace.
5 Enquanto lhe servires, ele te empregará; quando nada mais tiveres, ele te abandonará.	5 If thou give, he will make use of thee: and if thou have nothing, he will forsake thee.
6 Se tens haveres, ele se banqueteará contigo, te esgotará e não cuidará de tua sorte.	6 If thou have any thing, he will live with thee, and will make thee bare, and he will not be sorry for thee.
7 Se lhe fores útil, ele te dominará; com um sorriso ele te dará esperanças, com belas palavras te dirá: De que necessitas?	7 If he have need of thee he will deceive thee, and smiling upon thee will put thee in hope; he will speak thee fair, and will say: What wantest thou?
8 Confundir-te-á com seus banquetes, até que te tenha exaurido duas ou três vezes; e, por fim, zombará de ti; depois, vendo-te, abandornar-te-á, e abanará a cabeça, escarnecendo de ti.	8 And he will shame thee by his meats, till he have drawn thee dry twice or thrice, and at last he will laugh at thee: and afterward when he seeth thee, he will forsake thee, and shake his head at thee.
9 Humilha-te perante Deus e espera que sua mão (execute).	9 Humble thyself to God, and wait for his hands.
10 Tem cuidado em não te deixares seduzir, para que não caias numa loucura aviltante.	10 Beware that thou be not deceived Into folly, and be humbled.
11 Não te rebaixes em tua sabedoria, para não suceder que esse rebaixamento te arraste à loucura.	11 Be not lowly in thy wisdom, lest being humbled thou be deceived into folly.
12 Se um poderoso te chamar, retira-te, e ele será ainda mais levado a insistir.	12 If thou be invited by one that is mightier, withdraw thyself: for so he will invite thee the more.
13 Não sejas importuno, para não acontecer que ele se canse de ti; não te afastes muito dele, para não suceder que ele te esqueça.	13 Be not troublesome to him, lest thou be put back: and keep not far from him, lest thou be forgotten.
14 Não tenhas a audácia de falar de igual para igual com ele, e não confies em suas longas conversas. Pois fazendo-te falar muito, ele te experimentará, e com um sorriso te interrogará sobre os teus segredos.	14 Affect not to speak with him as an equal: and believe not his many words: for by much talk he will sift thee, and smiling will examine thee concerning thy secrets.
15 Seu coração impiedoso relembrará todas as tuas palavras, e não te poupará nem aos maus tratos nem às cadeias.	15 His cruel mind will lay up thy words: and he will not spare to do thee hurt, and to cast thee into prison.
16 Cuida de ti e presta bem atenção aos teus ouvidos, pois caminhas à beira de um abismo.	16 Take heed to thyself, and attend diligently to what thou hearest: for thou walkest in danger of thy ruin.
17 Mas, ouvido tudo isso, encara-o como um sonho, e serás vigilante;	17 When thou hearest those things, see as it were in sleep, and thou shalt awake.
18 ama a Deus durante toda a tua vida, e invoca-o para tua salvação.	18 Love God all thy life, and call upon him for thy salvation.
19 Todo ser vivo ama o seu semelhante, assim todo homem ama o seu próximo.	19 Every beast loveth its like: so also every man him that is nearest to himself.
20 Toda carne se une a outra carne de sua espécie, e todo homem se associa ao seu semelhante.	20 All flesh shall consort with the like to itself, and every man shall associate himself to his like.
21 O logo jamais terá amizade com o cordeiro: assim é entre o pecador e o justo.	21 If the wolf shall at any time have fellowship with the lamb, so the sinner with the just.
22 Que relação pode haver entre um santo homem e um cão? Que ligação pode ter um rico com um pobre?	22 What fellowship hath a holy man with a dog, or what part hath the rich with the poor?
23 O onagro é a presa do leão no deserto: assim os pobres servem de pasto aos ricos.	23 The wild ass is the lion's prey in the desert: so also the poor are devoured by the rich.
24 E como a humanidade é abominada pelo orgulhoso, do mesmo modo o pobre causa horror ao rico.	24 And as humility is an abomination to the proud: so also the rich man abhorreth the poor.
25 Um rico abalado é apoiado pelos seus amigos. O pobre que tropeça é ainda empurrado pelos seus companheiros.	25 When a rich man is shaken, he is kept up by his friends: but when a poor man is fallen down, he is thrust away even by his acquaintance.
26 Quando um rico é enganado, numerosos são aqueles que o vêm ajudá-lo; se diz tolices, o apóiam.	26 When a rich man hath been deceived, he hath many helpers: he hath spoken proud things, and they have justified him.
27 Quando um pobre é enganado, ainda merece censura, e, se falar com sabedoria, não o levam em consideração.	27 The poor man was deceived, and he is rebuked also: he hath spoken wisely, and could have no place.
28 Se fala o rico, todos se calam, e glorificam suas palavras até às nuvens;	28 The rich man spoke, and all held their peace, and what he said they extol even to the clouds.
29 se fala um pobre, dizem: Que é este homem? E se ele tropeçar, fazem-no cair.	29 The poor man spoke, and they say: Who is this? and if he stumble, they will overthrow him.
30 A riqueza é boa para quem não tem a consciência pesada, péssima é a pobreza do mau que se lastima.	30 Riches are good to him that hath no sin in his conscience: and poverty is very wicked in the mouth of the ungodly.
31 O coração do homem modifica seu rosto, seja em bem, seja em mal.	31 The heart of a man changeth his countenance, either for good, or for evil.
32 O sinal de um coração feliz é um rosto alegre, tu o acharás dificilmente e com esforço.	32 The token of a good heart, and a good countenance thou shalt hardly find, and with labour.
