1 He who was from the beginning, whom we have heard, whom we have seen with our eyes, upon whom we have gazed, and whom our hands have certainly touched: He is the Word of Life.	1 Voilà ce qui était depuis le commencement, et que nous avons entendu, et que nos yeux ont vu, et que nos mains ont palpé - je parle du Verbe qui est la vie.
2 And that Life has been made manifest. And we have seen, and we testify, and we announce to you: the Eternal Life, who was with the Father, and who appeared to us.	2 Car la vie s’est montrée à découvert et c’est la Vie éternelle que nous avons vue et dont nous parlons et que nous vous annonçons, - celle qui était auprès du Père avant de nous être montrée à découvert.
3 He whom we have seen and heard, we announce to you, so that you, too, may have fellowship with us, and so that our fellowship may be with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.	3 Donc ce que nous avons vu et entendu, nous vous le faisons aussi savoir pour que vous soyez en communion avec nous - et nous, nous sommes en communion avec le Père et avec son Fils Jésus Christ.
4 And this we write to you, so that you may rejoice, and so that your joy may be full.	4 Et nous vous écrivons maintenant pour que notre joie soit parfaite.
5 And this is the announcement which we have heard from him, and which we announce to you: that God is light, and in him there is no darkness.	5 Voici le message que nous avons reçu de lui et que nous vous annonçons: Dieu est lumière, il n’y a donc rien en lui de ténèbres.
6 If we claim that we have fellowship with him, and yet we walk in darkness, then we are lying and not telling the truth.	6 Si nous disions que nous sommes en communion avec lui, alors que notre vie est ténèbres, nous serions menteurs, nous ne ferions pas la vérité.
7 But if we walk in the light, just as he also is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.	7 Mais si notre vie se déroule dans la lumière, nous sommes en communion les uns avec les autres et le sang de Jésus, son Fils, nous purifie de tout péché.
8 If we claim that we have no sin, then we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.	8 Si nous disions que nous n’avons pas de péché, ce serait nous tromper nous-mêmes: la vérité ne serait pas en nous.
9 If we confess our sins, then he is faithful and just, so as to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all iniquity.	9 Mais si nous reconnaissons nos péchés, lui qui est fidèle et juste nous enlèvera nos péchés: il nous purifiera de tout mal.
10 If we claim that we have not sinned, then we make him a liar, and his Word is not in us.	10 Si nous disions que nous n’avons pas péché, nous ferions de lui un menteur: sa parole ne serait pas en nous.
