And when he had descended from the mountain, great crowds followed him.1 After he had come down from the mountain large crowds fol owed him.
And behold, a leper, drawing near, adored him, saying, “Lord, if you are willing, you are able to cleanse me.”2 Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, 'Lord, ifyou are wil ing, you can cleanse me.'
And Jesus, extending his hand, touched him, saying: “I am willing. Be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.3 Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, 'I am willing. Be cleansed.' And his skin-diseasewas cleansed at once.
And Jesus said to him: “See to it that you tell no one. But go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses instructed, as a testimony for them.”4 Then Jesus said to him, 'Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make theoffering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.'
And when he had entered into Capernaum, a centurion approached, petitioning him,5 When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him.
and saying, “Lord, my servant lies at home paralyzed and badly tormented.”6 'Sir,' he said, 'my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain.'
And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”7 Jesus said to him, 'I wil come myself and cure him.'
And responding, the centurion said: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.8 The centurion replied, 'Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and myservant will be cured.
For I, too, am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”9 For I am under authority myself and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man, "Go," and he goes;to another, "Come here," and he comes; to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'
And, hearing this, Jesus wondered. And he said to those following him: “Amen I say to you, I have not found so great a faith in Israel.10 When Jesus heard this he was astonished and said to those following him, 'In truth I tell you, in no onein Israel have I found faith as great as this.
For I say to you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and they shall sit at table with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.11 And I tel you that many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacobat the feast in the kingdom of Heaven;
But the sons of the kingdom shall be cast into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”12 but the children of the kingdom wil be thrown out into the darkness outside, where there wil beweeping and grinding of teeth.'
And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go, and just as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And the servant was healed at that very hour.13 And to the centurion Jesus said, 'Go back, then; let this be done for you, as your faith demands.' Andthe servant was cured at that moment.
And when Jesus had arrived at the house of Peter, he saw his mother-in-law lying ill with a fever.14 And going into Peter's house Jesus found Peter's mother-in-law in bed and feverish.
And he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose up and ministered to them.15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.
And when evening arrived, they brought to him many who had demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word. And he healed all those having maladies,16 That evening they brought him many who were possessed by devils. He drove out the spirits with acommand and cured al who were sick.
in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah, saying, “He took our infirmities, and he carried away our diseases.”17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: He himself bore our sicknesses away andcarried our diseases.
Then Jesus, seeing the great crowds encircling him, gave orders to go across the sea.18 When Jesus saw the crowd al about him he gave orders to leave for the other side.
And one scribe, approaching, said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you will go.”19 One of the scribes then came up and said to him, 'Master, I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have dens, and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to rest his head.”20 Jesus said, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere tolay his head.'
Then another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”21 Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, 'Lord, let me go and bury my father first.'
But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and allow the dead to bury their dead.”22 But Jesus said, 'Fol ow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.'
And climbing into a boat, his disciples followed him.23 Then he got into the boat fol owed by his disciples.
And behold, a great tempest occurred in the sea, so much so that the boat was covered with waves; yet truly, he was sleeping.24 Suddenly a storm broke over the lake, so violent that the boat was being swamped by the waves. Buthe was asleep.
And his disciples drew near to him, and they awakened him, saying: “Lord, save us, we are perishing.”25 So they went to him and woke him saying, 'Save us, Lord, we are lost!'
And Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid, O little in faith?” Then rising up, he commanded the winds, and the sea. And a great tranquility occurred.26 And he said to them, 'Why are you so frightened, you who have so little faith?' And then he stood upand rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
Moreover, the men wondered, saying: “What kind of man is this? For even the winds and the sea obey him.”27 They were astounded and said, 'Whatever kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obeyhim?'
And when he had arrived across the sea, into the region of the Gerasenes, he was met by two who had demons, who were so exceedingly savage, as they went out from among the tombs, that no one was able to cross by that way.28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards himout of the tombs -- they were so dangerously violent that nobody could use that path.
And behold, they cried out, saying: “What are we to you, O Jesus, the Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture usbefore the time?'
Now there was, not far from them, a herd of many swine feeding.30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,
Then the demons petitioned him, saying: “If you cast us from here, send us into the herd of swine.”31 and the devils pleaded with Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.'
And he said to them, “Go.” And they, going out, went into the swine. And behold, the entire herd suddenly rushed along a steep place into the sea. And they died in the waters.32 And he said to them, 'Go then,' and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herdcharged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.
Then the shepherds fled, and arriving in the city, they reported on all this, and on those who had had the demons.33 The herdsmen ran off and made for the city, where they told the whole story, including what hadhappened to the demoniacs.
And behold, the entire city went out to meet Jesus. And having seen him, they petitioned him, so that he would cross from their borders.34 Suddenly the whole city set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him toleave their neighbourhood.
