Unto the end. A Psalm of David. | 1 A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. |
Hear, O God, my prayer of supplication. Rescue my soul from the fear of the enemy. | 2 O God, you are my God-- for you I long! For you my body yearns; for you my soul thirsts, Like a land parched, lifeless, and without water. |
You have protected me from the assembly of the malignant, from a multitude of workers of iniquity. | 3 So I look to you in the sanctuary to see your power and glory. |
For they have sharpened their tongues like a sword; they have formed their bow into a bitter thing, | 4 For your love is better than life; my lips offer you worship! |
so that they may shoot arrows from hiding at the immaculate. | 5 I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands, calling on your name. |
They will suddenly shoot arrows at him, and they will not be afraid. They are resolute in their wicked talk. They have discussed hidden snares. They have said, “Who will see them?” | 6 My soul shall savor the rich banquet of praise, with joyous lips my mouth shall honor you! |
They have been searching carefully for iniquities. Their exhaustive search has failed. Man will approach with a deep heart, | 7 When I think of you upon my bed, through the night watches I will recall |
and God will be exalted. The arrows of the little ones have become their wounds, | 8 That you indeed are my help, and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy. |
and their tongues have been weakened against them. All those who saw them have been troubled; | 9 My soul clings fast to you; your right hand upholds me. |
and every man was afraid. And they announced the works of God, and they understood his acts. | 10 But those who seek my life will come to ruin; they shall go down to the depths of the earth! |
The just will rejoice in the Lord, and they will hope in him. And all the upright of heart will be praised. | 11 They shall be handed over to the sword and become the prey of jackals! |
But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by the Lord shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be shut! |
