1 When the uproar of those crowding round the council had subsided, Holofernes, general-in-chief of theAssyrian army, reprimanded Achior in front of the whole crowd of foreigners and Ammonites.	1 cf2Tobie partit donc, et le chien le suivit ; et il demeura la première nuit (s'arrêta à la première hôtellerie) près du fleuve du Tigre.
2 'Achior, who do you think you are, you and the Ephraimite mercenaries, playing the prophet like this withus today, and trying to dissuade us from making war on the people of Israel? You claim their God wil protectthem. And who is God if not Nebuchadnezzar? He himself wil display his power and wipe them off the face ofthe earth, and their God wil certainly not save them.	2 Et il sortit pour se laver les pieds, et voici qu'un énorme poisson s'avança pour le dévorer.
3 But we, his servants, shal destroy them as easily as a single individual. They can never resist thestrength of our cavalry.	3 Tobie, plein d'effroi, jeta un grand cri, en disant : Seigneur, il va se jeter sur moi.
4 We shal burn them all. Their mountains will be drunk with their blood and their plains filled with theircorpses. Far from being able to resist us, every one of them wil die; thus says King Nebuchadnezzar, lord of thewhole world. For he has spoken, and his words will not prove empty.	4 Et l'ange lui dit : Prends-le par les ouïes, et tire-le à toi. Ce qu'ayant fait, il le tira à terre, et le poisson commença à se débattre à ses pieds.
5 As for you, Achior, you Ammonite mercenary, who in a rash moment said these words, you wil not seemy face again until the day when I have taken my revenge on this brood from Egypt.	5 Alors l'ange lui dit : Vide (Eventre) ce poisson, et prends-en le cœur, le fiel et le foie, car ils te seront nécessaires pour des remèdes (très) utiles.
6 And then the swords of my soldiers and the spears of my officers wil pierce your sides. You wil falamong their wounded, the moment I turn on Israel.	6 Ce qu'ayant fait, il fit rôtir une partie de la chair, qu'ils emportèrent avec eux en chemin ; ils salèrent le reste, qui leur devait suffire jusqu'à ce qu'ils arrivassent à Ragès, ville des Mèdes.
7 My servants wil now take you into the hill-country and leave you near one of the towns in the passes;	7 Alors Tobie interrogea l'ange, et lui dit : Mon frère Azarias, je te supplie de me dire quel remède l'on peut tirer de ce que tu m'as ordonné de garder du poisson.
8 you wil not die, until you share their ruin.	8 Et l'ange, lui répondant, lui dit : Si tu mets sur des charbons une partie de son cœur, sa fumée chasse toute sorte de démons, soit d'un homme, soit d'une femme, en sorte qu'ils ne s'en approchent plus.
9 No need to look so sad if you cherish the secret hope that they wil not be captured! I have spoken; noneof my words will prove idle.'	9 Et le fiel est bon pour oindre les yeux où il y a quelque taie, et il les guérit.
10 Holofernes having commanded his tent-orderlies to seize Achior, to take him to Bethulia and to handhim over to the Israelites,	10 Et Tobie lui dit : Où veux-tu que nous logions ?
11 the orderlies took him, escorted him out of the camp and across the plain, and then, making for the hil -country, reached the springs below Bethulia.	11 L'ange lui répondit : Il y a ici un homme du nom de Raguël, ton parent et de ta tribu. Il a une fille nommée Sara ; mais il n'a pas de fils, ni d'autre fille que celle-là.
12 As soon as the men of the town sighted them, they snatched up their weapons, left the town and madefor the mountain tops, while al the slingers pelted them with stones to prevent them from coming up.	12 Tout son bien te sera (t'est) dû, et (mais) il faut que tu la prennes pour épouse (en mariage).
13 However, they managed to take cover at the foot of the slope, where they bound Achior and left himlying at the bottom of the mountain and returned to their master.	13 Demande-la donc à son père, et il te la donnera en mariage (pour femme).
14 The Israelites then came down from their town, stopped by him, unbound him and took him to Bethulia,where they brought him before the chief men of the town,	14 Alors Tobie répondit et dit : J'ai entendu dire qu'elle avait déjà épousé sept maris, et qu'ils sont morts ; et j'ai entendu dire aussi qu'un démon les avait tués.
15 who at that time were Uzziah son of Micah of the tribe of Simeon, Chabris son of Gothoniel andCharmis son of Melchiel.	15 Je crains donc que la même chose ne m'arrive à moi-même, et que, comme je suis fils unique de mes parents, je ne précipite de chagrin leur vieillesse au tombeau (dans les enfers).
16 These summoned al the elders of the town. The young men and the women also hurried to theassembly. Achior was made to stand with al the people surrounding him, and Uzziah questioned him about whathad happened.	16 Alors l'ange Raphaël lui dit : Ecoute-moi, et je t'apprendrai quels sont ceux sur qui le démon a du pouvoir.
17 He answered by tel ing them what had been said at Holofernes' council, and what he himself had saidin the presence of the Assyrian leaders, and how Holofernes had bragged of what he would do to the House ofIsrael.	17 Ce sont (Or) ceux qui s'engagent dans le mariage de manière à bannir Dieu de leur cœur et de leur esprit, et qui ne pensent qu'à leur passion, comme le cheval et le mulet qui sont sans raison ; le démon a du pouvoir sur ceux-là (eux).
18 At this the people fel to the ground and worshipped God.	18 Mais pour toi, lorsque tu l'auras épousée, étant entré dans la chambre, vis avec elle dans la continence pendant trois jours, et ne pense à autre chose qu'à prier avec elle.
19 'Lord God of heaven,' they cried, 'take notice of their arrogance and have pity on the humiliation of ourrace. Look kindly today on those who are consecrated to you.'	19 Cette même nuit, (si tu) mets dans le feu le foie du poisson, (et) le démon s'enfuira.
20 They then spoke reassuringly to Achior and praised him warmly.	20 La seconde nuit, tu seras admis dans la société des saints patriarches.
21 After the assembly Uzziah took him home and gave a banquet for the elders; al that night they cal edon the God of Israel for help.	21 La troisième nuit, tu recevras la bénédiction de Dieu, afin qu'il naisse de vous des enfants en parfaite santé.
	22 (Or) La troisième nuit passée, tu prendras cette jeune fille dans la crainte du Seigneur, et guidé par le désir d'avoir des enfants plutôt que par la passion, afin que tu obtiennes la bénédiction de Dieu, en ayant des enfants de la race d'Abraham.
