The sons of Reuben, the first-born of Israel. (He was indeed the first-born, but because he disgraced the couch of his father his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, son of Israel, so that he is not listed in the family records according to birthright.1 I figliuoli di Ruben primogenito di Israel; esso certo fu primogenito, ma avendo egli contaminato il letto del suo padre, la sua primogenitura fu data ai figliuoli di Iosef figliuolo di Israel, e non fu avuto per suo primogenito.
Judah, in fact, became powerful among his brothers, so that the ruler came from him, though the birthright had been Joseph's.)2 E di Iuda, il quale era fortissimo tra' suoi fratelli, della sua stirpe nascerono principi; ma la primogenitura fu di Iosef.
The sons of Reuben, the first-born of Israel, were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.3 Onde gli figliuoli di Ruben, primogenito d' Israel: Enoc e Fallu, Esron e Carmi.

and Bela, son of Azaz, son of Shema, son of Joel. The Reubenites lived in Aroer and as far as Nebo and Baal-meon;8 E Bala figliuolo di Azaz, figliuolo di Samma, figliuolo di Ioel, egli abitò in Aroer insino a Nebo e Beelmeon.
toward the east they dwelt as far as the desert which extends from the Euphrates River, for they had much livestock in the land of Gilead.9 E contro alla parte d'oriente abitò insino. allo introito dell' eremo e al fiume Eufrate; però che possedea grande numero di bestiame nella terra di Galaad.
During the reign of Saul they waged war with the Hagrites, and when they had defeated them they occupied their tents throughout the region east of Gilead.10 E nel tempo di Saul combatterono contro gli Agarei; e uccisergli, e abitarono per loro nelli loro tabernacoli, in ogni parte che guarda all' oriente di Galaad.

Their brothers, corresponding to their ancestral houses, were: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber--seven.13 E' loro fratelli, secondo la cognazione delle loro case: Micael e Mosolla e Sebe e Iorai e Iacan e Zie ed Eber, sette.
These were the sons of Abihail, son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz.14 Questi sono i figliuoli di Abiail, figliuolo di Uri, figliuolo di Iara, figliuolo [di Galaad, figliuolo] di Micael, figliuolo di Gesesi, figliuolo di Geddo, figliuolo di Buz.
Ahi, son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was the head of their ancestral houses.15 E' fratelli figliuoli di Abdiel, figliuolo di Guni, furono prìncipi della casa nelle famiglie loro.
They dwelt in Gilead, in Bashan and its towns, and in all the pasture lands of Sirion to the borders.16 E abitarono nella terra di Galaad e in Basan e ne' suoi borghetti e in tutti gli sobborghi di Saron, insino a' termini.
All were listed in the family records in the time of Jotham, king of Judah, and of Jeroboam, king of Israel.17 Tutti questi furono numerati nel tempo di Ioatan re di Giuda, e nel tempo di Ieroboam re d' Israel.
The Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh were warriors, men who bore shield and sword and who drew the bow, trained in warfare--forty-four thousand seven hundred and sixty men fit for military service.18 I figliuoli di Ruben e di Gad e di mezza la tribù di Manasse, uomini (buoni) combattitori, e portavano scuda e coltella, e tendenti l'arco e ammaestrati a battaglia; quarantaquattro milia settecento sessanta, andando alla battaglia,
When they waged war against the Hagrites and against Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab,19 combatterono contro agli Agarei; ma gli Turei, e Nafi e Nodab
they received help so that they mastered the Hagrites and all who were with them. For during the battle they called on God, and he heard them because they had put their trust in him.20 gli diedero ajuto. E furono dati gli Agarei nelle loro mani, e tutti quelli ch' erano con esso loro; però che quando combatterono, sì invocarono Iddio, ed esaudìgli, poichè credettero a lui.
Along with one hundred thousand men they also captured their livestock: fifty thousand camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep, and two thousand asses.21 E presero tutte le cose che possedeano, cinquantamilia di cammelli, duecento cinquantamilia di pecore, e duomilia asini, e centomilia uomini.
Many had fallen in battle, for victory is from God; and they took over their dwelling place until the time of the exile.22 E de' feriti morirono molti; però che fu battaglia del Signore. E abitarono per loro insino alla transmigrazione.
The numerous members of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land of Bashan as far as Baal-hermon, Senir, and Mount Hermon.23 E' figliuoli della mezza tribù di Manasse possederono la terra da' confini di Basan insino a Baal, Ermon e Sanir, e il monte Ermon; però ch' era molto grande numero.
The following were the heads of their ancestral houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel--men who were warriors, famous men, and heads over their ancestral houses.24 E questi furono i principi della casa del parentado loro: Efer e Iesi ed Eliel, Ezriel, Ieremia e Odoia e Iediel, uomini fortissimi e potenti, e nominati capitani nelle famiglie loro.
However, they offended the God of their fathers by lusting after the gods of the natives of the land, whom God had cleared out of their way.25 E lasciarono lo Iddio delli padri loro, e fornicarono dopo gli dii de' popoli della terra, i quali il Signore tolse via dal cospetto loro.
Therefore the God of Israel incited against them the anger of Pul, king of Assyria, and of Tiglath-pileser, king of Assyria, who deported the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh and brought them to Halah, Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, where they have remained to this day.26 E suscitò Iddio d' Israel lo spirito di Ful re degli Assirii, e lo spirito di Telgatfalnasar re di Assur; e translatò Ruben e Gad e mezza la tribù di
