Genesis 33

1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.	1 Jakob blickte auf, und siehe, Esau kam mit vierhundert Mann heran. Er verteilte die Kinder auf Lea und Rachel und die beiden Mägde.
2 And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.	2 Die Mägde mit ihren Kindern stellte er an die Spitze, dahinter Lea mit ihren Kindern und zuletzt Rachel mit Joseph.
3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.	3 Er selbst schritt ihnen voran, verneigte sich siebenmal zur Erde und kam so näher an seinen Bruder heran.
4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.	4 Esau lief ihm entgegen, umarmte ihn, fiel ihm um den Hals und küßte ihn. Sie weinten.
5 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.	5 Er erhob seine Augen, erblickte die Frauen mit ihren Kindern und fragte: "Wer sind diese dort in deiner Begleitung?" Er antwortete: "Es sind die Kinder, die Gottes Güte deinem Knecht geschenkt hat."
6 Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.	6 Da traten die Mägde samt ihren Kindern näher heran und verneigten sich.
7 And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.	7 Lea kam ebenfalls mit ihren Kindern, und sie verneigte sich; zum Schluß kam auch Joseph mit Rachel, und sie verneigten sich.
8 And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.	8 Er fragte: "Was hat denn dieser ganze Lagerzug, auf den ich gestoßen bin, zu bedeuten?" Jener antwortete: "Ich tat's, um Gnade vor meinem Herrn zu finden."
9 And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.	9 Esau sagte: "Ich habe ja viel Besitz, lieber Bruder; behalte doch, was dein ist!"
10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.	10 Jakob antwortete: "Nicht doch; wenn ich Gnade vor dir gefunden habe, so nimm doch mein Geschenk von mir an; denn ich habe dein Angesicht geschaut, wie man Gottes Angesicht schaut; und du bist gnädig zu mir gewesen.
11 Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.	11 Nimm doch also mein Begrüßungsgeschenk an, das dir überbracht wurde! Gott hat sich mir gnädig erwiesen. Ich habe vollauf genug." So drängte er ihn, bis er es annahm.
12 And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.	12 Darauf sagte er: "Wir wollen aufbrechen und weiterwandern; ich will dir zur Seite herziehen!"
13 And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.	13 Doch jener erwiderte ihm: "Mein Herr weiß, daß die Kinder noch empfindlich sind. Auch säugendes Kleinvieh und säugende Rinder sind noch bei mir. Treibt man sie zu rasch an, auch nur eine Tagereise weit, dann würde alles Vieh sterben.
14 Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.	14 Mein Herr möge doch vor seinem Knechte herziehen! Ich will mich gemächlich weiterbewegen nach dem Schritt meines vor mir trabenden Viehes und nach dem Schritt der Kinder, bis ich zu meinem Herrn nach Seir komme."
15 And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.	15 Esau sprach: "Ich will dir wenigstens einige von meinen Leuten zugesellen!" Er antwortete: "Wozu das? Möge ich doch Zustimmung finden bei meinem Herrn!"
16 So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.	16 An jenem Tage kehrte Esau von seinem Wege um in Richtung auf Seir.
17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.	17 Jakob brach auf nach Sukkot und baute dort für sich ein Haus; und für sein Vieh errichtete er Hütten, darum nennt man jenen Ort "Sukkot" (Hütten).
18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city.	18 Jakob kam nach Salim, der Stadt des Sichem, die im Lande Kanaan liegt, als er aus Paddan-Aram zurückkehrte. Er schlug bei der Stadt ein Lager auf.
19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money.	19 Er erwarb das Grundstück, auf dem er sein Zelt ausgespannt hatte, für hundert Kesita von den Söhnen Chamors, des Vaters Sichems.
20 And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.	20 Dort erbaute er einen Altar und nannte ihn "El ist der Gott Israels".
