| 1 Noémi avait, du côté de son mari, un parent. C'était un homme de condition qui appartenait au mêmeclan qu'Elimélek, il s'appelait Booz. | 1 Now Naomi had a kinsman of her husbands, a man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. |
| 2 Ruth la Moabite dit à Noémi: "Permets-moi d'aller dans les champs glaner des épis derrière celui auxyeux duquel je trouverai grâce." Elle lui répondit: "Va, ma fille." | 2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Let me go to the field, and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor." And she said to her, "Go, my daughter." |
| 3 Ruth partit donc et s'en vint glaner dans les champs derrière les moissonneurs. Sa chance la conduisitdans une pièce de terre appartenant à Booz, du clan d'Elimélek. | 3 So she set forth and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. |
| 4 Or voici que Booz arrivait de Bethléem: "Que Yahvé soit avec vous!" dit-il aux moissonneurs, et euxrépondirent: "Que Yahvé te bénisse!" | 4 And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem; and he said to the reapers, "The LORD be with you!" And they answered, "The LORD bless you." |
| 5 Booz demanda alors à celui de ses serviteurs qui commandait aux moissonneurs: "A qui est cette jeunefemme?" | 5 Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, "Whose maiden is this?" |
| 6 Et le serviteur qui commandait aux moissonneurs répondit: "Cette jeune femme est la Moabite, cellequi est revenue des Champs de Moab avec Noémi. | 6 And the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered, "It is the Moabite maiden, who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab. |
| 7 Elle a dit: Permets-moi de glaner et de ramasser ce qui tombe des gerbes derrière les moissonneurs.Elle est donc venue et elle est restée; depuis le matin jusqu'à présent elle s'est à peine reposée." | 7 She said, 'Pray, let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the reapers.' So she came, and she has continued from early morning until now, without resting even for a moment." |
| 8 Booz dit à Ruth: "Tu entends, n'est-ce pas ma fille? Ne va pas glaner dans un autre champ, ne t'éloignepas d'ici mais attache-toi à mes servantes. | 8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, "Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my maidens. |
| 9 Regarde la pièce de terre qu'on moissonne et suis-les. Sache que j'ai interdit aux serviteurs de tefrapper. Si tu as soif, va aux cruches et bois de ce qu'ils auront puisé." | 9 Let your eyes be upon the field which they are reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to molest you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn." |
| 10 Alors Ruth, tombant la face contre terre, se prosterna et lui dit: "Comment ai-je trouvé grâce à tesyeux pour que tu t'intéresses à moi qui ne suis qu'une étrangère" -- | 10 Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, when I am a foreigner?" |
| 11 "C'est qu'on m'a bien rapporté, lui dit Booz, tout ce que tu as fait pour ta belle-mère après la mort deton mari; comment tu as quitté ton père, ta mère et ton pays natal pour te rendre chez un peuple que tu n'avaisjamais connu, ni d'hier ni d'avant-hier. | 11 But Boaz answered her, "All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. |
| 12 Que Yahvé te rende ce que tu as fait et que tu obtiennes pleine récompense de la part de Yahvé, leDieu d'Israël, sous les ailes de qui tu es venue t'abriter!" | 12 The LORD recompense you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!" |
| 13 Elle dit: "Puissé-je toujours trouver grâce à tes yeux, mon Seigneur! Tu m'as consolée et tu as parléau coeur de ta servante, alors que je ne suis même pas l'égale d'une de tes servantes." | 13 Then she said, "You are most gracious to me, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not one of your maidservants." |
| 14 Au moment du repas, Booz dit à Ruth: "Approche-toi, mange de ce pain et trempe ton morceau dansle vinaigre." Elle s'assit donc à côté des moissonneurs et Booz lui fit aussi un tas de grains rôtis. Après qu'elle eutmangé à satiété, elle en eut de reste. | 14 And at mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come here, and eat some bread, and dip your morsel in the wine." So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed to her parched grain; and she ate until she was satisfied, and she had some left over. |
| 15 Lorsqu'elle se fut levée pour glaner, Booz donna cet ordre à ses serviteurs: "Laissez-la glaner entre lesgerbes, et vous, ne la molestez pas. | 15 When she rose to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, saying, "Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. |
| 16 Et même, ayez soin de tirer vous-mêmes quelques épis de vos javelles, vous les laisserez tomber, ellepourra les ramasser et vous ne crierez pas après elle." | 16 And also pull out some from the bundles for her, and leave it for her to glean, and do not rebuke her." |
| 17 Ruth glana dans le champ jusqu'au soir, et lorsqu'elle eut battu ce qu'elle avait ramassé, il y avaitenviron une mesure d'orge. | 17 So she gleaned in the field until evening; then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley. |
| 18 Elle l'emporta, rentra à la ville et sa belle-mère vit ce qu'elle avait glané; elle tira ce qu'elle avait misen réserve après avoir mangé à sa faim et le lui donna. | 18 And she took it up and went into the city; she showed her mother-in-law what she had gleaned, and she also brought out and gave her what food she had left over after being satisfied. |
| 19 "Où as-tu glané aujourd'hui, lui dit sa belle-mère, où as-tu travaillé? Béni soit celui qui s'est intéresséà toi!" Ruth fit connaître à sa belle-mère chez qui elle avait travaillé; elle dit: "L'homme chez qui j'ai travailléaujourd'hui s'appelle Booz." | 19 And her mother-in-law said to her, "Where did you glean today? And where have you worked? Blessed be the man who took notice of you." So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and said, "The man's name with whom I worked today is Boaz." |
| 20 Noémi dit à sa bru: "Qu'il soit béni de Yahvé qui ne cesse d'exercer sa bienveillance envers lesvivants et les morts!" Et Noémi ajouta: "Cet homme est notre proche parent, il est de ceux qui ont sur nous droitde rachat." | 20 And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "Blessed be he by the LORD, whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!" Naomi also said to her, "The man is a relative of ours, one of our nearest kin." |
| 21 Ruth la Moabite dit à sa belle-mère: "Il m'a dit aussi: Reste avec mes serviteurs jusqu'à ce qu'ils aientachevé toute la moisson." | 21 And Ruth the Moabitess said, "Besides, he said to me, 'You shall keep close by my servants, till they have finished all my harvest.'" |
| 22 Noémi dit à Ruth, sa bru: "Il est bon, ma fille, que tu ailles avec ses servantes, ainsi on ne temaltraitera pas dans un autre champ." | 22 And Naomi said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law, "It is well, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, lest in another field you be molested." |
| 23 Et elle resta parmi les servantes de Booz pour glaner jusqu'à la fin de la moisson des orges et de lamoisson des blés, et elle habitait avec sa belle-mère. | 23 So she kept close to the maidens of Boaz, gleaning until the end of the barley and wheat harvests; and she lived with her mother-in-law. |
