1 Or Jéricho s'était enfermée et barricadée (contre les Israélites): personne n'en sortait et personne n'yentrait.	1 Now Jericho was in a state of siege because of the presence of the Israelites, so that no one left or entered.
2 Yahvé dit alors à Josué: "Vois! Je livre entre tes mains Jéricho et son roi, gens d'élite.	2 And to Joshua the LORD said, "I have delivered Jericho and its king into your power.
3 Vous tous les combattants, vous contournerez la ville (pour en faire une fois le tour, et pendant sixjours tu feras de même.	3 Have all the soldiers circle the city, marching once around it. Do this for six days,
4 Sept prêtres porteront en avant de l'arche sept trompes en corne de bélier. Le septième jour, vous ferezsept fois le tour de la ville et les prêtres sonneront de la trompe).	4 with seven priests carrying ram's horns ahead of the ark. On the seventh day march around the city seven times, and have the priests blow the horns.
5 Lorsque la corne de bélier retentira (quand vous entendrez le son de la trompe), tout le peuplepoussera un grand cri de guerre et le rempart de la ville s'écroulera sur place; alors le peuple montera à l'assaut,chacun droit devant soi."	5 When they give a long blast on the ram's horns and you hear that signal, all the people shall shout aloud. The wall of the city will collapse, and they will be able to make a frontal attack."
6 Josué, fils de Nûn, appela les prêtres et leur dit: "Prenez l'arche d'alliance, et que sept prêtres portentsept trompes en corne de bélier en avant de l'arche de Yahvé."	6 Summoning the priests, Joshua, son of Nun, then ordered them to take up the ark of the covenant with seven of the priests carrying ram's horns in front of the ark of the LORD.
7 Puis il dit au peuple: "Passez et faites le tour de la ville, et que l'avant-garde passe devant l'arche deYahvé."	7 And he ordered the people to proceed in a circle around the city, with the picked troops marching ahead of the ark of the LORD.
8 (Il fut fait comme Josué l'avait dit au peuple). Sept prêtres portant les sept trompes en corne de bélierdevant Yahvé passèrent et sonnèrent de la trompe; l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé venait après eux,	8 At this order they proceeded, with the seven priests who carried the ram's horns before the LORD blowing their horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD following them.
9 l'avant-garde précédait les prêtres qui sonnaient de la trompe et l'arrière-garde venait après l'arche: onallait et l'on sonnait de la trompe.	9 In front of the priests with the horns marched the picked troops; the rear guard followed the ark, and the blowing of horns was kept up continually as they marched.
10 Au peuple, Josué avait donné l'ordre suivant: "Ne criez pas et ne faites pas entendre votre voix (qu'ilne sorte pas un mot de votre bouche), jusqu'au jour où je vous dirai: Poussez le cri de guerre! Alors vouspousserez le cri de guerre."	10 But the people had been commanded by Joshua not to shout or make any noise or outcry until he gave the word: only then were they to shout.
11 Il fit faire à l'arche de Yahvé le tour de la ville (en la contournant une fois), puis on rentra au campoù l'on passa la nuit.	11 So he had the ark of the LORD circle the city, going once around it, after which they returned to camp for the night.
12 Josué se leva de bon matin et les prêtres prirent l'arche de Yahvé.	12 Early the next morning, Joshua had the priests take up the ark of the LORD.
13 Munis des sept trompes en corne de bélier, les sept prêtres marchant devant l'arche de Yahvésonnaient de leur trompe pendant la marche, tandis que l'avant-garde allait devant eux, l'arrière-garde à la suitede l'arche de Yahvé, et que l'on défilait au son de la trompe.	13 The seven priests bearing the ram's horns marched in front of the ark of the LORD, blowing their horns. Ahead of these marched the picked troops, while the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, and the blowing of horns was kept up continually.
14 On fit le tour de la ville (le second jour) une fois, et l'on rentra au camp; c'est ainsi que l'on fitpendant six jours.	14 On this second day they again marched around the city once before returning to camp; and for six days in all they did the same.
15 Le septième jour, s'étant levés dès l'aurore, ils firent le tour de la ville (selon le même rite) sept fois.(C'est seulement ce jour-là qu'on fit sept fois le tour de la ville.)	15 On the seventh day, beginning at daybreak, they marched around the city seven times in the same manner; on that day only did they march around the city seven times.
16 La septième fois, les prêtres sonnèrent de la trompe et Josué dit au peuple: "Poussez le cri de guerre,car Yahvé vous a livré la ville!"	16 The seventh time around, the priests blew the horns and Joshua said to the people, "Now shout, for the LORD has given you the city
17 "La ville sera dévouée par anathème à Yahvé, avec tout ce qui s'y trouve. Seule Rahab, la prostituée,aura la vie sauve ainsi que tous ceux qui sont avec elle dans sa maison, parce qu'elle a caché les émissaires quenous avions envoyés.	17 and everything in it. It is under the LORD'S ban. Only the harlot Rahab and all who are in the house with her are to be spared, because she hid the messengers we sent.
18 Mais vous, prenez bien garde à l'anathème, de peur que, poussés par la convoitise, vous ne preniezquelque chose de ce qui est anathème, car ce serait rendre anathème le camp d'Israël et lui porter malheur.	18 But be careful not to take, in your greed, anything that is under the ban; else you will bring upon the camp of Israel this ban and the misery of it.
19 Tout l'argent et tout l'or, tous les objets de bronze et de fer seront consacrés à Yahvé, ils entrerontdans son trésor."	19 All silver and gold, and the articles of bronze or iron, are sacred to the LORD. They shall be put in the treasury of the LORD."
20 Le peuple poussa le cri de guerre et l'on sonna de la trompe. Quand il entendit le son de la trompe, lepeuple poussa un grand cri de guerre, et le rempart s'écroula sur place. Aussitôt le peuple monta vers la ville,chacun devant soi, et ils s'emparèrent de la ville.	20 As the horns blew, the people began to shout. When they heard the signal horn, they raised a tremendous shout. The wall collapsed, and the people stormed the city in a frontal attack and took it.
21 Ils dévouèrent à l'anathème tout ce qui se trouvait dans la ville, hommes et femmes, jeunes et vieux,jusqu'aux taureaux, aux moutons et aux ânes, les passant au fil de l'épée.	21 They observed the ban by putting to the sword all living creatures in the city: men and women, young and old, as well as oxen, sheep and asses.
22 Josué dit aux deux hommes qui avaient espionné le pays: "Entrez dans la maison de la prostituée etfaites-en sortir cette femme avec tous ceux qui lui appartiennent, ainsi que vous le lui avez juré."	22 Joshua directed the two men who had spied out the land, "Go into the harlot's house and bring out the woman with all her kin, as you swore to her you would do."
23 Ces jeunes gens, les espions, s'y rendirent et en firent sortir Rahab, son père, sa mère, ses frères ettous ceux qui lui appartenaient. Ils en firent sortir aussi tout son clan et les mirent en lieu sûr, en dehors du campd'Israël.	23 The spies entered and brought out Rahab, with her father, mother, brothers, and all her kin. Her entire family they led forth and placed them outside the camp of Israel.
24 On brûla la ville et tout ce qu'elle contenait, sauf l'argent, l'or et les objets de bronze et de fer qu'onlivra au trésor de la Maison de Yahvé.	24 The city itself they burned with all that was in it, except the silver, gold, and articles of bronze and iron, which were placed in the treasury of the house of the LORD.
25 Mais Rahab, la prostituée, ainsi que la maison de son père et tous ceux qui lui appartenaient, Josuéleur laissa la vie sauve. Elle est demeurée au milieu d'Israël jusqu'aujourd'hui, pour avoir caché les émissairesque Josué avait envoyés espionner Jéricho.	25 Because Rahab the harlot had hidden the messengers whom Joshua had sent to reconnoiter Jericho, Joshua spared her with her family and all her kin, who continue in the midst of Israel to this day.
26 En ce temps-là, Josué fit prononcer ce serment: "Maudit soit, devant Yahvé, l'homme qui se lèverapour rebâtir cette ville (Jéricho)! Il la fondera sur son aîné, et en posera les portes sur son cadet!"	26 On that occasion Joshua imposed the oath: Cursed before the LORD be the man who attempts to rebuild this city, Jericho. He shall lose his first-born when he lays its foundation, and he shall lose his youngest son when he sets up its gates.
27 Et Yahvé fut avec Josué, dont la renommée se répandit dans tout le pays.	27 Thus the LORD was with Joshua so that his fame spread throughout the land.
