1 Cependant les apôtres et les frères de Judée apprirent que les païens, eux aussi, avaient accueilli laparole de Dieu.	1 Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles too had accepted the word of God.
2 Quand donc Pierre monta à Jérusalem, les circoncis le prirent à partie:	2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem the circumcised believers confronted him,
3 "Pourquoi, lui demandèrent-ils, es-tu entré chez des incirconcis et as-tu mangé avec eux?"	3 saying, "You entered the house of uncircumcised people and ate with them."
4 Pierre alors se mit à leur exposer toute l'affaire point par point:	4 Peter began and explained it to them step by step, saying,
5 "J'étais, dit-il, en prière dans la ville de Joppé quand, en extase, j'eus une vision: du ciel un objetdescendait, semblable à une grande nappe qui s'abaissait, tenue aux quatre coins, et elle vint jusqu'à moi.	5 "I was at prayer in the city of Joppa when in a trance I had a vision, something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered from the sky by its four corners, and it came to me.
6 Je regardais, ne la quittant pas des yeux, et j'y vis les quadrupèdes de la terre, les bêtes sauvages, lesreptiles ainsi que les oiseaux du ciel.	6 Looking intently into it, I observed and saw the four-legged animals of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles, and the birds of the sky.
7 J'entendis alors une voix me dire: Allons, Pierre, immole et mange'	7 I also heard a voice say to me, 'Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.'
8 Je répondis: Oh non! Seigneur, car rien de souillé ni d'impur n'entra jamais dans ma bouche'	8 But I said, 'Certainly not, sir, because nothing profane or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'
9 Une seconde fois, la voix reprit du ciel: Ce que Dieu a purifié, toi, ne le dis pas souillé'	9 But a second time a voice from heaven answered, 'What God has made clean, you are not to call profane.'
10 Cela se répéta par trois fois, puis tout fut de nouveau retiré dans le ciel.	10 This happened three times, and then everything was drawn up again into the sky.
11 "Juste au même moment, trois hommes se présentèrent devant la maison où nous étions; ilsm'étaient envoyés de Césarée.	11 Just then three men appeared at the house where we were, who had been sent to me from Caesarea.
12 L'Esprit me dit de les accompagner sans scrupule. Les six frères que voici vinrent également avecmoi et nous entrâmes chez l'homme en question.	12 The Spirit told me to accompany them without discriminating. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man's house.
13 Il nous raconta comment il avait vu un ange se présenter chez lui et lui dire: Envoie quérir à JoppéSimon, surnommé Pierre.	13 He related to us how he had seen (the) angel standing in his house, saying, 'Send someone to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter,
14 Il te dira des paroles qui t'apporteront le salut, à toi et à toute ta famille'	14 who will speak words to you by which you and all your household will be saved.'
15 "Or, à peine avais-je commencé à parler que l'Esprit Saint tomba sur eux, tout comme sur nous audébut.	15 As I began to speak, the holy Spirit fell upon them as it had upon us at the beginning,
16 Je me suis alors rappelé cette parole du Seigneur: Jean, disait-il, a baptisé avec de l'eau, mais vous,vous serez baptisés dans l'Esprit Saint.	16 and I remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said, 'John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the holy Spirit.'
17 Si donc Dieu leur a accordé le même don qu'à nous, pour avoir cru au Seigneur Jésus Christ, quiétais-je, moi, pour faire obstacle à Dieu."	17 If then God gave them the same gift he gave to us when we came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to be able to hinder God?"
18 Ces paroles les apaisèrent, et ils glorifièrent Dieu en disant: "Ainsi donc aux païens aussi Dieu adonné la repentance qui conduit à la vie!"	18 When they heard this, they stopped objecting and glorified God, saying, "God has then granted life-giving repentance to the Gentiles too."
19 Ceux-là donc qui avaient été dispersés lors de la tribulation survenue à l'occasion d'Etiennepoussèrent jusqu'en Phénicie, à Chypre et à Antioche, mais sans prêcher la parole à d'autres qu'aux Juifs.	19 Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that arose because of Stephen went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but Jews.
20 Il y avait toutefois parmi eux quelques Chypriotes et Cyrénéens qui, venus à Antioche, s'adressaientaussi aux Grecs, leur annonçant la Bonne Nouvelle du Seigneur Jésus.	20 There were some Cypriots and Cyrenians among them, however, who came to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks as well, proclaiming the Lord Jesus.
21 La main du Seigneur les secondait, et grand fut le nombre de ceux qui embrassèrent la foi et seconvertirent au Seigneur.	21 The hand of the Lord was with them and a great number who believed turned to the Lord.
22 La nouvelle en vint aux oreilles de l'Eglise de Jérusalem, et l'on députa Barnabé à Antioche.	22 The news about them reached the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas (to go) to Antioch.
23 Lorsqu'il arriva et qu'il vit la grâce accordée par Dieu, il s'en réjouit et les encouragea tous àdemeurer, d'un coeur ferme, fidèles au Seigneur;	23 When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and encouraged them all to remain faithful to the Lord in firmness of heart,
24 car c'était un homme de bien, rempli de l'Esprit Saint et de foi. Une foule considérable s'adjoignitainsi au Seigneur.	24 for he was a good man, filled with the holy Spirit and faith. And a large number of people was added to the Lord.
25 Barnabé partit alors chercher Saul à Tarse.	25 Then he went to Tarsus to look for Saul,
26 L'ayant trouvé, il l'amena à Antioche. Toute une année durant ils vécurent ensemble dans l'Eglise ety instruisirent une foule considérable. C'est à Antioche que, pour la première fois, les disciples reçurent le nomde "chrétiens."	26 and when he had found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a large number of people, and it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians.
27 En ces jours-là, des prophètes descendirent de Jérusalem à Antioche.	27 At that time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch,
28 L'un d'eux nommé Agabus, se leva et, sous l'action de l'Esprit, se mit à annoncer qu'il y aurait unegrande famine dans tout l'univers. C'est celle qui se produisit sous Claude.	28 and one of them named Agabus stood up and predicted by the Spirit that there would be a severe famine all over the world, and it happened under Claudius.
29 Les disciples décidèrent alors d'envoyer, chacun selon ses moyens, des secours aux frères de Judée;	29 So the disciples determined that, according to ability, each should send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea.
30 ce qu'ils firent, en les envoyant aux anciens par l'entremise de Barnabé et de Saul.	30 This they did, sending it to the presbyters in care of Barnabas and Saul.
